Can't you be honorable, keep up your word and stay retired? I've been always rooting for you, but you have to know when to quit! Nah, he mixed things up going 3 base carrier instead of 2 base carrier in the final game, on a map less suited to carriers...which JYJ probably maybe sort of didn't expect! How unpredictable! /s
Protoss is more vulnerable at the highest level, but this was just hubris or lack of confidence on Stork's part. Watching Light's cold, calculated dismantling of Stork's game plan was fun though.

Why didn't he just go Arbiter? Or storm? Fuck. It was painful to watch. He got destroyed lmfao.

You can only get eliminated by losing twice, it's a double elimination bo1
Lose once, blame the format Lose twice, blame yourself

Stork plays the Shuttle style with storm all the time in Proleague tho. I guess in a tournament setting he just retreats to his comfort zone which is Carrier.
He was still 1-1 vs JYJ though, it's just the 1W fell on the match that doesn't really matter. In other words, he didn't lose twice to JYJ. That's why BO1 sucks.

great example are ultimate battles. In Ultimate battle's you sometimes have 1 player lose the first 3 and then make a huge comeback to still win 5-4 or 6-3. Due to the skill levels in starcraft being so close at the top a game can often times go either way. It is not that Stork played bad. It is that JyJ played better that one game. People here tend to overexaggerate so much and immediately call losing "terrible play" when its just one player being able to stack advantages that can make it look like whatever the other is doing is failing. That's how a snowball works.

if i recall correctly stork played a bo3 vs light in ASL and went carriers the first two games, then in the final game he went arbiters and got rekt. he probably wanted to play towards his strengths (carriers)

To be fair, Light kind of wrecks any Protoss these days so I don't think that weighed on him too much.

if they made you play 23 games bo1 vs. every other player in the round of 24, would you still say it's "bo1" even though you have 23 games to prove yourself?
Conversely, if they made each player just play a bo3 vs. one more player, would it be more fair?

if it was just BO3 vs. Light he would straight up lose 0-2, so that would be actually worse

Stork was competing with JYJ for the remaining spot. They played twice and tied 1-1, but JYJ won the match that decides who goes on.
This exact situation happened last season in the group of Queen/Royal/Sharp. Sharp beat Royal in game 2, only to lose to Queen in the winner match (while Royal beat the tier 4 player in the loser match). Sharp then lost to Royal in the decider match.
That's the problem with double elimination BO1 format:. the tier 2 and 3 players compete for one spot. They tie 1-1 between themselves. In the other matches, one loses to the tier 1 player and one wins the tier 4 player, and effectively the player who beats the tier 4 player gets to advance. Which feels kinda stupid because they are not presented with the same chance.
It would feel like "two chances" had the following happened: Stork lost to JYJ in game 2, then beat Sascri in loser match, then lost to JYJ again in the decider match. That way Stork effectively lost a BO3 to JYJ (although it's still not a real BO3).
A "Best of x" series means against the same opponent. If you play 23 BO1 against 23 opponents, it doesn't become BO23 or something. If I play 2 games, 1 against you and 1 against Flash, you can't say I have 2 chances lmao.

Maybe if two players are 1-1 after the decider, they should play a final match!
