Think Quick is looking to add a three month event to our existing regular show match series: an invitation only round robin tournament with an official minimum prize pool of $3350 USD to which donations and subscription funds will be added to. We will aim for a $5000 total prize pool! This new event will feature only the top foreign players from our discord who have agreed to participate, namely:
Bonyth, Cross, Dandy, Dewalt, Dragon, Koget, Oya, Stryker, Sziky, Terroru, Trutacz and Voddy
In this 12 man lineup, there are four Protoss, four Terran and four Zerg representatives. Each race, therefore, will be equally present throughout the tournament.
For now, we are calling our event Best of the Best Show Match Tour.
[Nota bene: Tour has two meanings, namely a journey/tour (i.e., around the world where the players reside) and a short hand reference to tournament]
Twelve of the best foreign players will face-off against each other in a five-game-format (e.g., 5:0 or 4:1 possible) over the course of three months. There will be 330 games in total on five different maps preferred by players including two newer (comfortable) maps by foreign ASL/Ladder mapper Freakling. The maps will be: Polypoid, Neo-Sylphid, Eclipse, Demonio Azul and Dies Iræ. We will be using Freakling's edited versions of the first three maps as well.
Which player(s) from which race(s), clan(s) and region(s) of the world will prove to be the best of the best by gathering the most single game wins and claiming the largest share(s) of the prize pool?
Our unique and equitable prize allocation system make it so that every single game won by a player will count towards his final standing in the tournament and earned income. In this way, each player will be able to claim prize money by winning one or more games regardless of whether he won entire showmatches or placed in the top four at the end. This means that three or four players in this tournament will not be able to grab all the prize money for themselves. This is a completely new and fair way of compensating contestants. Suffice to say the reaction from the above players to our model has been overwhelmingly positive.
Players accrue points based on the number of games they have won throughout the season. Each time a player wins a game, one point is awarded. Up to 330 points will be up for grabs over the course of the season. At the end, the number of points determines a player’s ranking within the tournament as well as his share of the total prize. The player’s prize claim is determined by dividing his points by the total number of points available.
The tournament and prize structure are complex and described here so you can see how everything works. Simply put, the bigger the prize pool gets, the more every single player will be compensated for his won games. So there will be no losers, at least financially speaking!
With this event, we want to reward our past top tier showmatch participants, financially compensate them for winning all of their games and help settle the score between them via a long play-off-format (five games!). In this global round robin tour, a 2-0 or 2-1 victory from your favourite player will simply not be enough! Every single game will matter and can bring in money to the player.
The three month event will be broadcast for free starting on Friday February 5 2021 (at 19:00 CET) and Saturday February 6 (at 23:00 CET) and every Friday and Saturday thereafter until the end of April. We will aim to stream at least six show matches every week on these two different days (and two of those show matches will be live and the rest preplayed). Matches will be casted by community members. Players will not stream their games on their channels so you will need to follow the official stream. Twitch subscribers will receive the biggest and best replay packs ever! In the first month, a $5 subscription will buy a 110 game replay pack. In the second month, a $5 subscription will bring in another 110 game replay pack and in the third month, a $5 subscription will bring in the last 110 game replay pack. The minimum prize pool, donations on top and subscription funds will all go toward players!!!
We are innovating an entirely new event structure, prize system and subscription model to financially support the top foreign players in the most equitable way possible. We are also aiming to provide high quality content for casual fans and students of BW without asking for any monetary compensation for ourselves. This is because we understand the number and quality of foreign BW players depend on the amount of financial and moral support they receive from community members. Please help make this new event as big as possible for them so that we (or others) can continue it for the benefit of the foreign competitive scene. Join our discord if you have any suggestions or comments or wish to contribute to the event somehow:
Also check out here all the prize 1v1, 2v2, FFA, 1v2 and other kinds of show matches we have streamed in the past with an open cast invite to community members as part of our regular (more casual) series. We spent thousands of dollars in a matter of months to support BW players of all ranks and regions while inviting the public to co-cast games with us.
Original post has been edited to reflect new changes.

I would contribute to it. Would be awesome to see a tour with this many games. With the BSL also going round robin for the ro8, there is just so much foreign top level SC to enjoy.
|
LML, I refrained from post to say what your said! Creating a showmatch tour or league is very intriguing.
The next tournament I will be supporting will probably be BSL, gotta fund season 11, still - I think.
|
I'm def donating to this. Would be epic to watch.
|
|
I would donate as well to a tourney as well!
|
Would also donate to the cause!

Good events obviously money is scarse to all especially bw players. Gl hf

Very exciting.
Re: showmatches in general - I had fun watching szky vs dewalt yesterday. Wish Szky had played that well during bsl.
Thanks for all your hard work and thanks to all of the contributors!

You should join us in the open cast voice chat next time, my friend, and say hello while we are streaming

Thank you kindly for your encouraging message.
Here's an update regarding our tournament's map pool. I edited the original post to reflect these new changes.
I asked all our players to mention three of their favourite maps (past or present) and here are their map preferences and votes.
Cross: cb eclipse sylphid Stryker: sylphid, eclipse, poly Terroru: Circuit breaker - fighting spirit - sylphid Trutacz: CB,Sylphid,Polypoid Dandy: CB , Destination , Longinus Sziky: FS, Poly, Sylphid Dewalt: Polypoid, eclipse, sylphid koget: FS, Optimizer, Sylph Dragon: fs, polypoid, eclipse Voddy: Polypoid, plasma, eclipse Bonyth: Bloody Ridge, Monte Christo, Overwatch Oya: Eclipse - Polypoid-Benzene
Benzene: | Bloody Ridge: | Circuit Breakers: | | | | Destination: | Eclipse: | | | | | | (6) Fighting Spirit: | | | | Longinus: | Monte Christo: | Neo-Sylphid: | | | | | | (6) Optimizer: | Overwatch: | Plasma: | Polypoid: | | | | | | | (7) Sparkle: |
The maps in bold gathered the most votes so we will be using them in our map pool. This was democratically decided by the players themselves.
We will add two very comfortable/standard/simple maps by Freakling to those three maps to make up our five-map map pool for the five-game format of our event. As I mentioned in the original post, we will also be using Freakling's edited versions of the first three maps above in order to ensure fair competition. The original versions have some bugs and technical issues, which Freakling has taken the time to fix. Additionally, he has offered all our participants an opportunity to practice on and test out all five maps and to offer him comments/feedback in case any minor changes need to be made to them before the official games kick off.
I would like to remind everyone that every game on every map will be very important financially in our event. With a 12 player round robin tournament, five-game format, each participant will play 11 show matches/55 games, and every single game will be worth minimum $10 (with $3000 minimum prize pool, for example) and so a 5-0 showmatch victory would equal $50 (minimum). A 2-3 loss would still bring the "loser" $20. We designed this new revolutionary prize system to make it more equitable and interesting for all participants. You can read about the details of our tournament and prize system here
In the future, I will make a new TL thread post with our promotional content once we have everything in order.
Here are images of our map pool (provided by Freakling).

We're considering streaming some tournament matches live during European friendly times without conflicting with wonderful BSL 11's future stream schedule.
|
Rus_Brain's wonderful e-sports fund has accepted our application for a grant to add to our existing prize pool. We now have officially (!) a $3,000 USD minimum prize pool for our Best of the Best (Bob) Tournament.
In the days ahead, I will try to prepare a giant replay pack (of showmatches from our regular show match series involving S and A rank players) to offer in exchange for donations.
12 player Round Robin Five Game Format 66 show matches / 330 total games Each player has 11 show matches / 55 games
Earnings for $3000 minimum prize pool 0.00 $9.09 (1 game win) 18.18 (2 game wins) 27.27 (3 game wins) 36.36 (4 game wins) 45.45 (5 game wins, e.g., 5-0 victory in one show match) 54.55 63.64 72.73 81.82 90.91 100.00 109.09 etc.
Think Quick Best of the Best Tour Prize Analysis
I will create an official thread for the event once we have all of our promotional content prepared.

Thanks ya'll.
Official announcement coming soon. Shout out to des for donating $200!
|
I cant see any info on time frame
might be blind.. but when will it be apprx? 8)

Thanks for your interest and accept my apologies for my very long OP.
We will stream the showmatches starting in early February until the end of April.
12 man round robin tournament with five-game format = 66 showmatches or 330 games!
Each game win will be worth slightly more than $9, so a 5-0 victory will be worth around $50!
Players won't stream their games so people will have to follow our stream (two stream events a week, each one showing 3 showmatches / 15 games. Stream events will be on Fridays starting at 20 CET and Saturdays - time to be announced, maybe North American time, maybe European (before BSL).
$5 subscription per month = 110 replays! So $15 over 3 months will bring you 330 replays! All revenue will go to players.
|
Big thanks to SorandomoK for donating a very generous $150 to our tournament prize pool, which stands at $3350 now. Each game win is worth $10 or so now, so a 2-3 outcome in one show match will bring the "loser" $20. Each player will fight in 11 (five-game) show matches or 55 games.
|
Wow! The prize pool is huge, I was not expecting this. Congrats! Hype hype hype

Shouts to Rus_Brain and ox.tQ.
ox, as someone who is barely active in the community anymore, you seemed to come out of nowhere and kept pouring in hours upon hours of work into these projects, and I am glad that you have a chance to do something as epic as this. Tons of respect for your work.
Big props to Rus_Brain as always for being an incredible asset to and member of the foreign community <3
|
That's very thoughtful of you Jealous. But I think the praise rightfully belongs to the members of our discord - the players who participate in show matches, the map makers who make our alternative map pool, the wonderful donators and co-casters who join our stream events, and the individuals who lent a helping hand for the sake of the community's benefit.
Yes Rus_Brain is the man although he is too modest to take any credit. Our Bonyth vs Dewalt showmatch will be dedicated to him and his wonderful e-sports fund / team.

Thank you kindly for this note. I am waiting for our graphics guy to complete our promotional content and other overlays which we will incorporate into our stream in the near future before creating an official announcement/post about this tournament. I will also put together an awesome replay pack in exchange for donations to our tournament. The replay pack will include bo5/bo7 showmatches featuring all the players in this tournament, along with other S rank players and semi Korean progamers such as Scan, Yoon, Yabsab, Ample, Artuser and Khala.

I love the variety that this stream brings. Hope to see plenty more in the future!

Thank you very much for your interest and compliments.
I am still waiting to get my hands on our new graphics before making an official announcement on TL and Reddit about our tour.
But we have scheduled and planned our event for the next three months. Big thanks to MyFleetingDream for helping me. I can share some information now in case anyone is interested.
So our stream days/times will be: Fridays (starting at 19:00 CET) and Saturdays (starting at 23:00 CET).
We will start streaming tour showmatches on February 5 (Fri) and February 6 (Sat) and continue every Friday and Saturday thereafter until the end of April.
On each stream day, we will show one live showmatch and two preplayed showmatches. We will have community casters and so unlike our regular showmatch series, casting will not be open to the public. I will be observing/streaming and sometimes "casting"/moderating as necessary.
Each show match will be five-games long. At the current prize pool, every single game in a show match is worth $10, and so a five game showmatch is worth $50. If we stream 3 showmatches in one day, that means about $150 will be on the line. Money will be up for grabs from the very beginning of the tour all the way to the end. This is very different from leagues and other events where the semi finals and grand finals determine the prize winners. According to our model, every single game is worth an equal percentage of the total prize pool.
Players will play their preplayed showmatches around the time they will be shown so they will be "fresh". There are a lot of pros when it comes to non-live showmatches. Players perform better due to less lag and anxiety/stress, and can arrange the showmatches according to their own schedules. Live matches are extremely difficult to organize and play when the streamer/observer, players, casters and audiences have different time zones and there is the issue of game lag, especially in certain match ups (e.g., TvZ). But we tried our best to schedule enough live showmatches for everyone's pleasure (about 22 live showmatches, which is 1/3rd of all (66) showmatches scheduled).
Each month we will offer 110 replays for $5 Twitch subscriptions for three months (i.e., $5 for 110 replays in February, $5 for 110 replays in March and $5 for 110 replays in April). All money will go towards prize pool. Players won't stream their games so everyone will have to follow my official stream. As the prize pool increases, every single game won will be worth more. Since we pay out players at the very end of the tournament, it is likely each game won will be worth more than $10. For example, if we reach $5000 prize pool, each game win will be worth approximately $15 and each five-game showmatch will be worth $75 (!) Even if a player loses a showmatch, but wins one or more games, he will be compensated. Suffice to say, I am very proud of our innovative, interesting and equitable prize system and looking forward to seeing how it affects the performance and strategies of our players.
Thanks for reading~

Tournament is still kicking off on February 5 and 6th and every Friday and Saturday thereafter until the end of April. Still waiting for my awesome graphics guy (Depleted aka Jengee) to give me the goods so that I can make an official announcement soon. Hopefully have some newer cool graphics to use during stream events as well.
