Well, you had all but one player outside korea. This one obviously was the strongest and took 350$ prize. Think about who came to play, rival, and who came to just pick up some easy money, and what is the impact of that for your future player base. :-)
Thanks for the tour anyway, you are doing great things for the scene nevertheless.
BTW. Zealot even qualified for ASL7 from the most difficult qualifier to put things in the perspective.
|
Having koreans at tournaments is ok, IMO. It is great way practice against them, like we have it on HAY. Just splitting the prizepool between top4 would make it more attractive for everyone. Of course, it might make more koreans to come, but in order to make it to the money spots we can get them sooner or later.

kogeT, so your point is in justification of your skill gap by a ban of a stronger. No polemic will follow <3

There are stronger on the foreigner scene than me. But there are no people on foreign scene that can compete with ASL level players, period.

Its your money, your tournament, I have no means nor intention to change your mind, just speaking up. If the idea is to match foreigners vs pros, that can be handled by donating 100 balloons on their stream (as I did few times with immediate success). If the intention is to give more motivation to foreign scene, I stick to my argument. :-)

Tournaments with Koranians do not make sense. Look at the BSL, which has the audience.
|
f*ck off and be gratefull brain is still sponsoring starcraft in 2019 lol
|
Maybe make every second tournament a 'no koreans allowed' tournament? I'd personally prefer the 'no koreans' tournies (they are plenty of kor tournies / stuff already), but this way you can satisfy both groups?
|
On January 07 2019 07:07 [sc1f]eonzerg wrote: f*ck off and be gratefull brain is still sponsoring starcraft in 2019 lol
Wow the manners, lol. My point was to create a perspective. If Brain wants to maximize the number of attendents / viewership then it's better to exclude koreans. If he wants to send money to korea and see foreigners getting crushed by koreans with limited players and viewers pool, he can surely keep the format as it is.
|
dont you see the intention is to make foreigners compete with koreans? this is the reason of bo1,in theory anyone can take a game.who will be the one to do it? there are 51 tournament left. a whole year of tournaments.

kogeT, I am bound with hard rules and guidelines, instead of mood or a current set of mind. Only a hard rules discipline makes long-term achievements possible. One of the stepping stone is a "fair competition" rule. Regardless of whose money are in place, the sanctioned competition is not a fair one.
Although you may argue that allowing a stronger player result in exactly the opposite, I believe that the "fair competition" is one with neither unfair advantages nor restrictions. A ban of a nation is an unfair restriction, if not Nazism, albeit Koreans are indeed by far stronger than any other players.
Many of top-tier players, like Eon, Dewalt, Cryoc, g0rynich, and yourself to name a few, made a one-out-of-10 win against top-tier pros and shared such replays. Such games often exposed weird strategies, and a Bo1 tournament encourages the same.
There was nothing abnormal in your particular defeat against ZeloT. Your early bunkering attempt may have been scouted by any other zerg as well. To the contrary, a standard play against a 9pool would result in an advantage, enough to hope for a one-out-of-10 chance.
I am sorry to hear you will forfeit the tournament, as your participation makes a difference, of course. Yet, I believe that a 2-hours long tournament makes no difference in your practice schedule, considering that a 3-hours long correspondence in this thread did not.

As all other matches, the final one was played on Aztec, Zerg spawning at 9 and Protoss at 4. + Show Spoiler +
Zerg opted for 9pool speedlings, perfectly scouted by Protoss. + Show Spoiler +
However, Dewalt made a greedy mistake of securing the choke with just 3 probes, allowing an easy pass for speedlings. Remarkable, that Protoss had more than enough probes to allow two extra for a secure stop. + Show Spoiler +
Five Korean speedlings were quite enough to secure an easy and rapid gg for Zerg. + Show Spoiler +

Unfortunately, the final match was swift and one-sided.

Remarkable, that Protoss had more than enough probes to allow two extra for a secure stop. I looked at the Dewalt vs. Zelot replay. I think the 3 probes was fine, but the biggest mistakes were losing the probe scout, and most of all going cannon>nexus>cannon instead of cannon>cannon>nexus. The second cannon finished just as the lings were hitting the probes. This felt like a slightly greedier play by Dewalt, not anticipating an aggressive ling attack that soon and committed, and also to optimize vs. a fast tech and deny scout play. It's a real shame since Zelot picked such a risky strategy that could've backfired, but Zelot's control is so good. I think Zelot diving in was also pure coincidence - he would've attacked either way. I think that lets in 3 lings at best (if 2 cannons first), and Dewalt's probe micro was just less than perfect.

I'm quite confident that by the end of this year we'll see at least 20% of tournaments won by foreigners.

First of all, I salute you Rus_Brain for supporting foreign Starcraft scene. I'm sure u hear that a lot, but these words need to be repeated over and over.
As for the good old foreigner vs korean discussion, I've used to think just as Koget thinks, but I'm past that and I understand your point of view and it's very reasonable, just as Koget's view, just from different perspective. Neither are good or bad I suppose. It's a matter of choice.
As for me, after some time I've realized, that I play differently low TR games from good TR ones. It could be because, as Ty2 mentioned somewhere, I have a very polarised micro-oriented style and because of it I lose my own game against koreans. I have also my own theory which race is the most advantageous when it comes to low TR games, but let's not get there :D
Have a strong heart Rus_Brain, gain internet resistance and keep up the good work!

BW Jeez weekly 02 @ January 13, 2019 (FS) - Dandy ~US$ 87.89 (less bank charges).
As all other matches, the final one was played on Fighting Spirit, Zerg spawning at 11 and Terran at 7. + Show Spoiler +
Zerg opted for 2 hatch muta, Terran FE SK Terran. Zerg's first popped up muta was perfectly timed to match the first Terran's encounter. Yet, the casualties were even, when Terran's group of M&Ms managed to get four mutas. + Show Spoiler + Luckily, Zerg lost nothing else.
One may think that Zerg's very early muta made nothing good. Yet, Zerg's muta kept Terran at bay, which Jose demonstrated just a couple of minutes later, saying hello to Terran's second scouting team. + Show Spoiler +
Another Terran's scouting squad was obliterated by well set trap. + Show Spoiler +
This is the point where Zerg opted for a Blitzkrieg instead of taking another expansion. + Show Spoiler +
These three lurkers killed a dozen seconds ago might have ended the game now... + Show Spoiler +
...But they did not. A counter-attack followed which indeed ended this game swift. Not exactly as Zerg planned though. + Show Spoiler +

BW Jeez weekly 03 @ January 20, 2019 (Roadkill) - Shine ~US$ 94.57 (less bank charges).
As all other matches, the final one was played on Roadkill, Polish Zerg spawning at 12 and Korean one at 6. + Show Spoiler +
Korean pro opted for overpool-gas, and Polak 12poolgas-exp. + Show Spoiler +
Trutacz expected an early harras (most possible a nine-pool one), and purchased ling speed for first 100 gas pocketed. + Show Spoiler +
Truta's first 6 lings run scouting and let Shine's first lings to pass by, unfortunately. + Show Spoiler +
Shine's lings running here and there @ Truta's main gave Korean exactly the time to get the Spire done, and by the time Trutacz broke through Korean main with a very powerful ling blow, backed up with two creep colonies, muta forced Truta to morph spore instead of a much more desirable Sunken. Korean contained his base with a couple of drones and two Sunkes of his own. + Show Spoiler +
LAN stage play would have changed nothing in this game. Nonetheless, the voice is heard. We will stream the replays instead of live games due to connectivity issues. + Show Spoiler +

As all other matches, the final one was played on HBR, Russian Protoss spawning at 3 and Peruvian Terran at 9. + Show Spoiler +
Dewalt's early probe hide made clear the game will go far off the standard. + Show Spoiler +
Although he made everything lure Terran into the trap of standard play. Second "scouting" probe came just in time, gateway, core, range... + Show Spoiler +
That was not a range upgrade Terran saw. But a +1 aerial attack canceled just when the Terran's scouting scv was killed. + Show Spoiler +
Dark tech followed with two gateways hidden inside Terran's main. + Show Spoiler +

As all other matches, the final one was played on Colosseum II, Protoss spawned @ 7 and Zerg @ 1. + Show Spoiler +
Zerg went overpool, and protoss opted for a very greedy nex-first fast expand. If only Shine spawned six lings first (and made a neutral creep sunken) the game might have ended faster. Today Zerg made 2 drone, 2 lings. Such a greedy FE made Zerg to respond with his 3rd. + Show Spoiler +
Stargate - sairs, and +5 gateways by 9th minutes. Yet, by that moment Protoss already had some airborne problems at his nat. + Show Spoiler +
By the time Protoss was ready to leave his main, Zerg already took his 4th and pumped even more units than Protoss did. + Show Spoiler +
Protoss could not sustain such enormous limits of Zerg waves under the dark swarm. + Show Spoiler +

Exp next for Korean and Lair next for Belgian Zerg. Korean then followed with Lair of his own, and Eon - with hatchery at home. Note very alike divergence in lair/hatch timings. + Show Spoiler +
Eon was very lucky with his early lings run by. As a result, 11 Belgian lings running for Korean's 7 + 1 drone. + Show Spoiler +

The same time, Korean Zerg managed to outdrone European champion 10+3 to 6+3! + Show Spoiler +
Eonzerg tried a surprise all-in attack with this lings at the timing when Korean should have waited for early muta, but eventually failed. + Show Spoiler +
Scourges watching Eon's main. Lack of drones. Lack of expand. Inevitable defeat. GG + Show Spoiler +

No, I've meant trutaCz, because -
"Due to mess with possible Shine's W/O, TrutaCz defeated both Shine and Nabusardar in Ro16, claimed indisputable spot in Ro8. Shine offraced as Terran against TrutaCz."

what..? You got to be kidding me.. You know very well that progamer "off-race" is much stronger than 99% of non-progamer main race. This is absurd..
He played terran vs zerg, too. So it was even more advantageous for him (Shine).
That's ridiculous.

BW Jeez weekly 12 @ March 24, 2019 (Fighting Spirit) - Dandy US$ 77.37.
As all other matches, the final one was played on Fighting Spirit. Russian Protoss spawned @ 5 and Peruvian Terran @ 11. + Show Spoiler +
Relatively equal FE vs FE. + Show Spoiler +
Followed with a 4 SCV kill two Dark Templars and completely unsuccessful Vulture drop. + Show Spoiler +
Though, Dewalt's 11th minute Reaver drop was the best shot. Almost no workers left at natural expansion. + Show Spoiler +
A counter-harras with 4 Vulture was somewhat not futile, but still far from the same damage. + Show Spoiler +
Dandy realized that he was playing 2 bases vs 3. And made a desperate attempt to kill Protoss'es third. + Show Spoiler +
This is why Terran's attack was desperate. He has left almost nothing defending the main base, which may have cost him a game. But for whatever reason, Dewalt let Dandy live. + Show Spoiler +
Next few minutes were relatively passive. Terran opted for 200/200. Protoss tried to recall overdefended Terran. No damage whatsoever. + Show Spoiler +
A 200/200 vs 200/200 skirmish at 20th minuted ended... Well, have a look: + Show Spoiler +
And this was obviously a gg for Protoss, albeit Dewalt refused to type out yet. + Show Spoiler +
Dandy continued pushing 3:00 and 7:00 expansions, leaving no economy for Protoss. A suicidal 70 vs 120 attack, and a "gg" from Dewalt. + Show Spoiler +

BW Jeez weekly 13 @ March 31, 2019 (Colosseum) - Terror US$ 149.82*. Double prize for a victory against Korean professional.
As all other matches, the final one was played on Colosseum. Korean professional spawned @ 7 and Peruvian Terran @ 5. + Show Spoiler +
Shine started with super greedy 3 Hatch before pool, but luckily for him, Terror had another cheese in mind. + Show Spoiler +
Terran showed fast tech (two vultures) and made everything to lure Zerg into thinking more vultures or Wraights are coming. + Show Spoiler +
And a few moments later, Terran had a pack of M&Ms and two Vultures against some Zerg's tier-1 shit and one sunken. + Show Spoiler +
Zerg might have left right after the sunken fell, but managed to live another two minutes before typed out. + Show Spoiler +

BW Jeez weekly 14 @ April 07, 2019 (Ground Zero) - Shine US$ 145.46.
As all other matches, the final one was played on Ground Zero. Korean professional spawned @ 1 and Russian Protoss @ 5. + Show Spoiler +
Overpool vs standard Forge-FE. + Show Spoiler +
Lancer is very well known for either playing outstanding or making utmost stupid mistakes. This time, he let Shine's first two lings pass by first cannon and probes. + Show Spoiler +
Eventually, lings took over one probe and provided most recent updates on all Protoss'es timings. Core, Stargate, Second gas, Gateways. Starting limit popping up. + Show Spoiler +
And when Zerg knows every second of Protoss timing, the economy maxing out, wall-ins, expansions are perfectly counter-timed. + Show Spoiler +
And even with almost no war limit, Protoss got almost nothing out of his first attack at 11th min. + Show Spoiler +
The same time, Zerg's muta wiped out Protoss'es main. + Show Spoiler +
Lancerx decided to type out soon.

BW Jeez weekly 15 @ April 14, 2019 (Overwatch) - ZeLoT US$ 77.74.
As all other matches, the final one was played on Ground Zero. Korean professional spawned @ 5 and Russian Zerg @ 11. + Show Spoiler +
Korean 9pool to Spire from vs Russian 12pool FE (subsequent idea to oversaturate the economy, defend with spores and opt for mass Mutalisk with twice as much gas. + Show Spoiler +
Zerg's first muta successfully scouted the map for free Overlords. + Show Spoiler +
By the time the only inaccuracy, in my opinion, was this Sunken. Not that I want so say Gorynich could not afford that, but that it was unnecessary to build such when you have two hatcheries against one in zvz. + Show Spoiler +
From this time on, Korean zerg showed a perfect counter to this type of opponent. Gorynych ended up building drones and spores, Zelot made only muta off his only hatchery. + Show Spoiler +
Eventually, Russian Zerg typed out.

BW Jeez weekly 16 @ April 21, 2019 (Circuit Breakers) - Shine US$ 78.07; Terror US$ 78.07*. * special performance bonus for making it against Korean pro.
As all other matches, the final one was played on Circuit Breakers. Korean professional spawned @ 1 and Peruvian Terran @ 7. + Show Spoiler +
Zerg opted for 3 hatches into Lair build. Terran made everything to make Zerg thinking + Show Spoiler +
That worked well, and Zerg bought it. However, a zergling eventually run by and reported no expansion, triggering instant three sunken to defend Zerg's expansion against early aggression. + Show Spoiler +
Marine rush expectedly failed. + Show Spoiler +
Terran tried a second try, making 5 rax push, but a nearby overlord reported no expansion as of yet. + Show Spoiler +
Not surprisingly, this did not work as well. + Show Spoiler +
When Zerg overrun Terran's main base Terran scouted Zerg's expansion and typed out. + Show Spoiler +

As all other matches, the final one was played on Circuit Breakers. Korean professional spawned @ 11 and Polish Protoss @ 5. + Show Spoiler +
Zerg opted for 3 hatches, Protoss built a gateway opting for FE in the future. Protoss made a good effort to delay Zerg's 2nd. Yet, this was just delaying the 3rd. + Show Spoiler +
Protoss's two first Zealot rushed into Zerg's main. This resulted in heavy damage for Protoss who left nothing behind and almost no casualties for Zerg. + Show Spoiler +

BW Jeez weekly 18 @ May 5, 2019 (Cross Game) - Shine US$ 145.44.
As all other matches, the final one was played on Cross Game. Korean professional spawned @ 1 and his younger adversary with Protoss-like nickname @ 7. + Show Spoiler +
Notably, Shine's advantage was clear at already 0:30 mark. Despite ZeLoT spawned at a "Larva-movable" position, Shine managed to outperform him in mining. + Show Spoiler +
ZeLoT went for 9 pool seedlings, and Shine into 12 exp. Although 9pool seems to be an exact BO-win, ZeLoT gained nothing but killing a single drone, which was obviously not enough. + Show Spoiler +
Shine defended well against early mutalisk harras, and ZeLoT was very confused with what to do. He tried to sunken his opponent and eventually moved the drones back to his main, + Show Spoiler +
At ~9:00 mark ZeLoT made neat drone harassment, although the distraction ling attack was already on the go. + Show Spoiler +
Meanwhile, Shine gathered a strong muta army, backed up with +1 armor and a pack of scourges. The first major aerial encounter was the game breaker. + Show Spoiler +

Jeeeeeeeeeez... Shine sure likes to win the same amateur tourney every week eh? I'm not gonna lie, I enjoyed seeing him being face-stomped in KSL. It's just a shame that he managed to take the spot for Larva, who would have surely blessed us with a better performance. Go Go Terror next week!!

Go Go Terror next week!! yeah, well.. i agree that it is pretty disgusting and i really never liked Shine anyways.. but if they give you (basically) free money for playing 4 to 5 games.. why not take it? it's fully rational from his perspective. It's the organizers fault for allowing professionals to play in a tournament with amateurs.

important to note that shine is a very nice guy who plays in a lot of nonkorean tournaments, and he should be distinguished from shinee, who is a big jerk who plays in a lot of nonkorean tournaments.
|
I wouldn't point the fingers at the organizers cos it seems to me they (or he in particular) have burdened themselves with the seemingly impossible task to create some sort of a bridge between the Korean and foreign scenes. The financial incentive alone is quite a good stimulant for the best foreigners to really push that bit harder and try to defy the gods. I think Brain is doing amazing work tbh. And of course, if they give u free money why not take it, as Shine. Plus.. he's not doing anything illegal or unethical. It's just that as they say 'if you have a plan B, plan A will never work out', and if plan B is to have fun and make a profit from his life-long commitment... cheers to him! It just makes it hard to view him as a real star.. Given this set-up... I strongly believe it's just a matter of time before the most committed foreigners improve to a level where they can regularly take games of him. As we all know Starcraft time is quite a bit faster than the regular time, so perhaps an year or two would suffice. Keep in mind - they are going up and have ambition on their side. He's going down and has reputation on his side. I might be completely wrong, but........ I don't think so :D
|
We get an extra prize for beating one of the koreans, i think thats fair.
|
I'm not a fan of Rus_Brain to say the least, but I don't really see any problem with the tournament, nor with Koreans taking the chances they can. They've spent so much time becoming as skilled as they are, so why not earn a few bucks to keep living out one's passion? Especially Shine who seems like a stellar fellow. They might even be interested in getting to know the foreign scene more, too?
It's also a fantastic opportunity for foreigners to be able to play against some of the very best players in the world. If anything, it's a great chance to get practice rarely gotten elsewhere. It's also a bonus that people are awarded for beating Koreans and such.
I do support that there should be some tournaments for foreigners only (like Let's go), but I don't see anything wrong with the format of BW Jeez Weekly, nor in Koreans taking the opportunity presented.

I wouldn't call it fair, more like throwing the scraps out there just to seem fair, but whatever ; )
good that anything is going on, because it seems that whitout the STPL and BSL the foreign scene is completely dead.. unfortunately.

"It's also a fantastic opportunity for foreigners to be able to play against some of the very best players in the world. and korean pros praying on amateur foreigners is as much distasteful as a professional boxer knocking tf out a bunchof amateurs in a tournament and getting all the money. It's disgusting to me, but it's not my money so whatever it's just really weird and sad to me to see so many dudes liking getting dunked on on a regular basis. Ooofff

Shine winning hurts me. Why is it disgusting when there is no stable pro scene? Let the kids eat. But still... how is no one beating shine. SHINE FFS

BW Jeez weekly 20 @ May 19, 2019 (Medusa) - Scan US$ 77.19.
As all other matches, the final one was played on Medusa. Ukrainian Terran spawned @ 3 and Korean Terran @ 6. + Show Spoiler +
Marwin opted for FE 2fac, and Scan for FE 1-1-1. + Show Spoiler +
First few skirmishes resulted into Scan's favor. However, it was way too premature to determine the winner. A small disadvantage in resource spent was easily covered with 2fac production. + Show Spoiler +
The first Wraith added even more score to Korean Terran. + Show Spoiler +
Undetected cloak let Scan to get a strategic position, both safely controlling Marwin's exit from the base and shooting down neutral ramp temple. + Show Spoiler +
Eventually, Marwin managed to break through securing force, but his main was being destroyed already. A good game from both. + Show Spoiler +

BW Jeez weekly 23 @ June 09, 2019 (Circuit Breakers) - Bonyth US$ 154.70*.
As all other matches, the final one was played on Circuit Breakers. Korean Terran spawned @ 11 and Polska Protoss @ 5. + Show Spoiler +
Neither went FE. Both played rather safe and standard strategies. + Show Spoiler +
The second CC/Nexus timing was equal. + Show Spoiler +
Bonyth tried dark drop, first two templars of which were of minor effect. The third dark templar was a bit luckier until the comsats were recharged. + Show Spoiler +
No real action followed afterward. I will only mention again equal timing of both 3rds and 4ths bases. + Show Spoiler +
Bonyth opted for both arbiter and carriers. Arbiter possibly to make Scan confused if the spot was scanned. Bonyth placed his 5th and attacked with the first 6 carriers, arbiter, and ground stuff. + Show Spoiler +
Some more skirmishes follows. + Show Spoiler +
And an elimination fight. + Show Spoiler +
Although you may think that Bonyth got less left after this elimination (according to minimap), a strong force of nine carriers helped him to make the match even pretty soon. + Show Spoiler +
And eventually ended a game in his favour. + Show Spoiler +

Wohoo, that's a lot of tournaments!
Hopefully we get 52 more in 2020

Crazy amount of tournaments and crazy overall prizepool, I mean this is easily 6000 USD ++

very good idea to give "special prizes" or "double prizes" for beating koreans
hopefully this will continue in 2020 and get more love than this year, because it deserves it.
Thanks, Rus_Brain!

Thanks for hosting all these awesome tournaments! I hope we can see more next year! Actually it was almost 8k$ and over half of it went to foreign players!
