It's a tough group to call.

I don't think Best beating Shine is an upset, Best is looking really really solid now, Shine has some creative strats and ideas but on a pure standard game his skills doesn't seem up to par with the very best.

Group A: Rain/Sharp. Pretty easy, Rain picked really intelligently, picking a TvT specialist knowing he's going to pick more Terrans into the group. Sharp is a TvT specialist, showed he's better than Sea, and Mind's TvT hasn't looked impressive. Easy pick.

Group B: EffOrt/Soulkey. I think that EffOrt is going to sneak out of the group first by upsetting SK in G1, and otherwise, we both saw Snow's and Shuttle's PvZ in the KSL. While Snow managed to get up 2-0 vs JD, he choked and also didn't look good in standard games which EffOrt and SK both exceed in. Shuttle's PvZ is also just trash. Easy picks again.

Group C: BeSt/Last. This was a weird group to pick because based upon how the first games go, things could be very interesting. I think any of these players could advance, but I'm going with BeSt and Last. I think BeSt will beat Last and Shine will beat Mini, then BeSt will upset Shine and Last will advance after that. It's a tough group to call.

Group D: FlaSh/Jaedong. Man, everyone saying Light is gonna beat Jaedong is too clouded by the fact that Jaedong got 4-0d by Last. He beat Light in their KSL finals group, and Jaedong is only getting better right now. Easily the Group of Death imo, Action has also looked great. FlaSh > JD, Light > Action, JD > Action, FlaSh > Light, JD > Light. Jaedong over Light, screw all the naysayers. Also makes me sad that Action is probably getting eliminated here :/

Are the games really going to be played in that order? If the pairs in the first two games of every group known from the group selection, why aren't they on liquipedia? And that way the first guy to get picked is at a very serious disadvantage; he doesn't get to pick his opponent but then the guy he picks has this advantage.

Also, when will the map order be known and what will they ditch? CB in favour of Neo Transistor?

Definitely, Light is the easiest win for JD in that group imo
Edit: my picks would be
A - Rain/Mind
B - Soulkey/Snow
C - Last/Best
D - JD/Flash

And dark horse pick would be Action to win the whole thing!

For those of you confused with Rain's switch; He did Flash a favor because Rain and Flash are VERY good friends.

Plus you all should be happy with the switch as it gets us closer to a Rain Flash finals or atleast a BO5 Rain vs Flash series

I know people suspect it, but was it confirmed yet that this would be JD's last ASL before military? Because Flash's statement definitely supports it. The translation was something like "I wanted to make the game happen since it might otherwise not happen again for a couple years". I also wouldn't be surprised if it came up when Flash was helping JD prep for KSL finals.

Anyway, even though the odds are still probably 80:20 for Flash, there are other opponents Flash could've picked if he was just trying to score an easy win, so I think it's cool of Flash to set up this farewell(?) match that's basically for the fans.

I think the switch had two purposes. 1) Remove threat to his friend Flash as you say but also 2) Make it harder for JD to get out. If JD made it out second through his JvZ, it would make Rain vs JD a possibility, which I imagine Rain wants to avoid for a while.

Rain at one point did mention switching Last with Action, which I think would've been optimal for him strategically (guaranteeing two strong threats are removed early on), but maybe avoided it for Flash.

Loving the variety in every group.

A looks pretty amazing for Rain.

B Really hoping snOw pulls through and quietly wanting the alienzerg to make it!

C Last has just been so good, so good v Z lately. Hope he has the chops to go through. Best has looked damn good as well. Kinda cautiously hoping for him to take the protoss crown.

D. I think we know what we want. Light always feels like such a feel good underdog.

Have the dates of Ro. 8 and Ro. 4 been announced yet? I might have a chance to be in Seoul on the 12th-14th of October so would love to know.
This is my signature. I love that I can have a signature here. I haven't had a signature since like 2008. It reminds me of the old internet. I wish I knew what to put here though.

Best Group selection's so far, a lot of back-and-forth and funny moments. Love the arrangement of the four tables, more up-close and personal :-) I liked how Group C was sitting up there with Shine like their representative of satisfaction :-D While Group B had all the rivalry and sad faces hehe.. (Shuttle's reaction)
Fingeres double-crossed for JD making it out of Group (D)eath

Finally With ro24 done and ro16 about to start.. Tasteless c'mooon... you can do better casting then you currently providing man. Atleast Artosis is providing interesting and meaningful sentences wihich include ACTUAL analysis. I'm happy we can have English cast.. but it has to be providing something to the games. So please don't derail the cast With 10 minutes of meaningless 'hyping' or other stuff that is not relevant, sure you can hype but do it so that it's actually interesting . And PLEASE stop doing this: "for those of you who might be New or coming into the game or are New to BW ..etc etc let me tell you how brood war works", I cringe everytime you do thi. You've been With the scene 20 yrs like me... nobody is a "noob" in this game anymore, not even noobs! :-D

And you think their first-ever experience will be to jump right into ASL and tune in? Noo man.. this is not needed

This might sound like a huge rant on Tasteless lol, its not! I just want to listen to good casting, and sometimes T. is ok, I just think he can do better

I'm not sure what Rain was thinking. He gave Flash an extremely easy group, made it so that Shuttle and Snow would almost certainly lose (which are both pretty free wins for Rain) and he Soulkey and Effort are pretty guaranteed to make it through, both of which he'll struggle against.

The smarter move would have been Best <-> Action, making it much tougher for Flash, Soulkey, Effort and Best to advance, and making it much easier for Mini, Shuttle and Snow.

It makes sense when you think about it:

1) Revenge against JD for beating him 4-0 in KSL. He would clearly see JD as a big threat.
2) Screw Snow over, which in turn helps Flash (his friend), since Snow is one of few who can beat Flash.
3) Help his buddy Flash who should be able to beat Light pretty easily. Rain wants a final vs Flash.

Overall, Snow was screwed over more than JD.

JD vs SK was basically a coin flip (maybe slight edge to JD). Based on KSL, JD vs Light is also a coin flip, especially being only a BO3.

He hasn't been that bad. In the first 3 or 4 minutes of the games, he keeps it entertaining by giving some theories behind why players might pick a certain build order etc (before they actually happen). It might be a bit of waffle but it keeps the cast going.

Artosis comes into his own once the build orders chosen become revealed and he can really analyse it.

Thing is, the 2 compliment eachother so it doesn't really matter. I've seen Artosis cast with others and he didn't seem as good. If he makes Artosis seem even better, then he is doing his job.

Let's not forget Light making Soulkey and Effort play rock/paper/scissors for that spot. On that note, I couldn't tell if Light was going to pick the same regardless. [loser goes to our team vs winner goes to our team]

BeSt lost to MIsO in the qualifiers. His PvZ is NOT good. I have Shine favored slightly, but slightly nonetheless.

Agreed. And the reason for the way I framed my opinions. I like Tastless's overall energy, it works sometimes :-) My problem is when there is too much of derailing, and like Rapid (also a good guy), he/they sometimes miss obvious things happening in-game, like commenting 10 minutes later "what upgrades are they on?" "Does he have a Science facility yet?" MAN! Pay attention to the game lol.

Just had to get this out, but I know I'm derailing this thread myself, so I won't comment more on the casters here. Final note, after watching ro16 Group A, I think Nogregret actually is quite cool. He should appear more!

I think Rain would rather face Flash than Jaedong and that is why he made it harder for Jaedong. Just think about it. PvT doable but PvZ against Jaedong is not.
