Amazing games, and Tastosis did a great job casting. Hopefully they'll bring in some new people BW is amazing, really cool to have stuff like this. Hopefully it'll last forever!

if you are aware of mech switches TvZ and gate first builds pvz, not that much. TvT has shifted a lot away from the BC centered lategame Tastosis mentioned to the use of wraith and sometimes valks to counter wraith. Mass Drop play isn't seen a lot anymore in TvT
Is this because the meta has shifted or the result of the maps? FS and CB don't have much in the way of terrain in the middle of the map which doesn't leave much space for dropship play. We are a huge fan of dropship chess and remember Medusa producing a lot of very nice TvT's. Then soon after that came, we believe (we clicked through all 4 player twilight maps looking for the one which looks familiar), Wuthering Heights and there was virtually no dropship play on that. Our memory is that virtually every TvT ended up with mass vultures from each side at the start and then pushing tank lines around.
But honestly, I wish more bw tlers would be able to come to the games with us, it's just so nice being able to talk about the games going on with people who actually know the game well (Alur), it's basically like an irl LR thread. Yall need to come to seoul right now! ;D And the tl bw community is just the absolute best <3

I never watched iloveoov - his nickname 'Cheater Terran' speaks of his macro prowess.
Are Flash and iloveoov very similar in terms of play-style (strong in macro, weak in micro)? If they played in their prime during the same era, who would've been more dominating (over the rest of the field, not necessarily 1-on-1 TvT)?
#BWForLife
Flash is basically the epitome of an SC player. Strong Macro, three-moves-ahead strategic decision-making, and excellent micro when it's needed. He's weak only in micro-heavy, low-economy games, but few players can counter his way of cutting corners to eke out a macro advantage. Only Jaedong at his prime would actually be able to stand up to him in a long series, and if given a set of maps both do not regularly play on, it would be a close series. As for rest-of-field advantage, I'd say that Flash has it, he's been to ten finals to oov's five, which means his consistency level's much higher.
Great insight!
Yeah, I always thought he was 'weak only in micro-heavy, low-economy games' - which was how Bisu took him out at the last BW Proleague ace match (what a scrappy but epic match that was!). But 'weak' being relative to his strengths, of course - I don't mean he's bad in micro at all.
I was reading somewhere earlier that Best could take on Flash straight-up macro. Would he be one of the best macro Protoss in modern times then?
Funny, I'd always picture Jaedong as an aggro player strong in early and mid game. Didn't quite know his macro could stand up to Flash's too!
JD has always been mechanically the strongest player, nobody could surpass his micro. I still remember his double muta stack on Blue Storm or his simultaneous muta splits in ZvZ. Being very good mechanically he outplayed a lot of players during his prime. Above that, he was one of the players to change ZvZ and ZvP meta and was, in my opinion, the epitome of a zerg player. Micro heavy, cunning and meticulous, rock solid in both early and late game. Just imagine, nobody except Flash was considered a threat to him.
JD always had that awesome winning pattern LWW or LLWWW which made ppl bite their nails and eat heart pills. Yes, JD had the balls to risk and do some amazing come backs in history and that is why so many ppl loved watching him play. It is only after those 0-3 losses to Flash he started to slowly fade away just at the time when Flash started his way to Olympus.
I wonder how would the history turn if Flash played protoss ?

Wow. Brings back memories. I never played BW well, only watched it. Was enjoyable back then. Kinda miss it. MSL, OSL, Proleague etc. Best thing about the production was that there were hardly any technical issues or delays like we often see in Dota. SC2 killed the scene, though I'd be still skeptical of the game's relevance against LoL/Dota 2/CSGO etc. I don't see as much money being pumped in.
Though I kind of feel sad for the ex pros. Back then they were all taken care of, it was a job, everything was organised. They trained and played for a purpose. Now it feels like a bunch of 25-30 year olds unable to let go of their 'addiction' to the game. It's all good when there's a vibrant competitive scene, or if the game is internationally played. Now it's all nostalgia Do they earn much from streaming?

Bisu received $40k USD worth of donations in 1 month(June) Other popular streamers like Flash and Shuttle also earn similar income consistently. of course if you are not popular, streaming is just something you do for fun as you don't get much donation. but for star players with large fanbases like the above, its a real profitable venture. Many of the BW-mad korean fans in the past are now working adults with sizable disposable income, allowing them donate on a regular basis just to watch their idols play. so no need to feel sad for them (on the contrary you should be jealous instead lol)

based off the conservative 1 balloon=0.07USD rate, Bisu just earned almost 40000USD this month for comparison the entire prizepool of Afreeca Starleague is only ~21600USD
so flamers and haters can talk about bisu having a weak mentality, scared of army, scared of meeting flash in finals, not having a long term view of helping boost the BW scene whatever, when you are raking in such dough on a regular basis, simply from regular streaming, everything else is fluff.
if he thinks he doesn't want to play in tournaments anymore because he will be forced to stream less (hence cutting his stream revenue), then thats his personal choice. I don't blame bisu for that. people on forums love to talk about morals and obligations etc, but put them in the same shoes, almost everyone would have done the same as Bisu.

I won't feel jealous even for that money. I get that he is doing what he loves while making money from it. But I feel that the lack of a bustling competitive environment to the game makes playing BW no longer thrilling or motivating. The game itself isn't being updated as well with patches to keep things fresh. I feel they are too young to be doing things at a recreational level. There's no goals to set or achieve, life goes on the same way everyday. Doesn't feel healthy to be living life this way at this age.

of course the games are not as top tier as they used to be. BUT despite that, there is still demand in korea to watch the players stream their games, as seen by the amount of donations pouring in for the best players. It shows that fans still want to watch their play, so why should the players not oblige? And the players get money for their showmatches, its a win-win. Thats a lot of motivation if you ask me.

other than OS compatibility and technical issues (which there will be a patch for in the future), the game is fine as it is. any ill-proposed funny silly balance changes will disrupt the finely poised balance BW had for so long and will enrage the established korean community.

On the contrary i think society should be more open-minded and perhaps finally recognize that being a "streamer" (part time or otherwise) is a considerably valid career option, even for the long term. (and not just for recreation) Not just on afreeca, even on twitch there are people who earn a good living streaming whatever they enjoy, and in the process entertain and satisfy the cravings of their audience. So if you have the talent and/or fanbase why not? its not a conventional or the most ambitious career, but you still provide a service (entertainment) to society like any other job. Is that not fulfilling?
