BWAPI mini Tournament #1 BWAPI mini Tour 1 Update 7 July: Ro32 changed to Ro16. Tournament now starts at 11:30 AM CEST. New method for signing up a bot. Update #2: Channel name for this tournament is: BWAPI
Hello everyone,
Now that I have permission from ICCUP.face, I can start organizing the BWAPI mini tour. This tournament is created to let the bot developers test their bot(s) in a tournament setting, which will be useful for those that are going to participate in the next CIG StarCraft AI competition. The format is going to be a Ro16 Bo1 double elimination with a Bo3 Finals. All games will be played on Fighting Spirit.
Tournament information:
In this tournament, both human players and bots are allowed to sign on. I reserved 6 spots for bot developers.
The tournament will be held at 11 July 2015. The tournament starts at 11:30 (AM) CEST. Because some bot developers cannot be available at that time due to time-zones, I am going to operate three bots alongside my own bot. This service is first come, first served for all bot developers who cannot be online at the given time due to time-zones.
Registering:
There is no rank requirement for both bots and human players.
In order to register as a human player, fill in the following template below and post it in this topic or pm it to me:
------------------------------ ICCUP ID: Maximum ICCUP rank: Current ICCUP rank: Race (random is not allowed): ------------------------------
In order to register a bot, send me a pm with the template above if you are going to operate your own bot. Do indicate as well that you are registering a bot.
If you cannot operate your bot due to time constraints and want me to operate your bot, send me a pm with a request to operate your bot. In order to prevent me from abusing the DLL/Java that I receive, we will arrange a match where LetaBot will play 5 games against your bot. The result of these matches will be used in the tournament. After these 5 games you will send me your bot DLL/Java and I will operate it during the tournament.
If you aren't available for such a match, you can send me the DLL/Java and I will immediately start a Bo5 match myself the moment that I download the DLL/Java. Do note that in either way my bot is still in development. So my bot will play differently in the bot match that in the actual comeptition.
The bot registration closes at Thursday 9 July 23:00 CEST. Any bot slot that isn't filled is opened for human players. Sending a DLL is still possible till Friday 10 July 23:00 CEST, but playing games on ICCUP beforehand isn't anymore.
Initial seeding:
Update 7 July: dropped the D+ or lower requirement vs bots. Now low rank will be based on the ranking of the players in the tournament.
At the start of the Ro16, each bot will be paired with a low ranked player due to the low play level of most bots. Higher ranked players will be seeded based on when they sign up.
Prize money: I currently have a paysafe card of €25 and a paysafe card of €10 available for the first place and second place respectively. Both bot developers and human players are eligible for this prize money.
Tournament system:
The initial seeding will be available at the team liquid wiki: BWAPI mini Tour 1 If it is possible, I will use the defiler.ru tournament system for this tournament.
Other information: - No race picking. You only use the race that you registered with. - Everyone is allowed to use the observer version of Fighting Spirit, but I would advise bot operators to instead give the replays to the casters. This due to the fact that the high apm can cause lag if an observer is present. - Bot developers are allowed to let someone other than their-self or me operate their bot. As long as that person is available at 11:30 CEST and can stay for all games that the bot has to play. If the operator has to leave, all further games that the bot has to play are automatically forfeit - Bot developers are eligible for prize money if their bot wins. Even if they are not operating their own bot. - Bot operator should not use Anti-hack as it conflicts with the BWAPI. Human players should have AH on the whole tournament, unless somehow it does not work when playing against a BWAPI bot. In that case they can turn it off when playing against a bot. - BWAPI bots should have the "complete map information" flag set to disabled (by default it is).

Sign me up.
I registered you on the wiki: BWAPI mini Tour 1 (participants list is probably still in the unchecked version). When the defiler.ru or other tournament system goes online for this tournament, you can be added there as well.
Tournament is changed to a Ro16. Because of this, the tournament starts later due to the fact that the previously first set of games don't have to be played (new time: 11:30 AM CEST).
I also added another method of getting me to operate your bot. This method simply involves you sending the DLL/Java without a match on ICCUP. I will run the match internally on a LAN.
I also dropped the explicit D+ or lower requirement vs bots. Now the lower rank is based on all the ranks that sign up in this tournament.
After the bot registration is closed (Thursday 9 July 2015 23:00 CEST) I will either have a response from yoda (is he on vacation?), or I will use the challonge system. The ICCUP channel name will also be given at that time.
I'll do it myself. I wonder what you meant about the other option where you will run the match internally on LAN, though. You can't do lan with random people over the internet o.o

When a bot developers sends me his DLL I can run his DLL on one machine and my bot on another. That way the match doesn't have to be played over ICCUP (two apm spamming bots can lag over ICCUP).

Replays will be submitted to verify the wins/losses (just like defiler tournament). I am planning to cast all the games that are played by the bots in this tournament. This cast will be uploaded to youtube.
I made a preliminary bracket for this tournament on BWAPI mini Tour 1 . In about 1 hour from now the bot spots will be opened up. You can still submit your bot by sending the DLL, but the option of playing games on ICCUP beforehand is no longer available.
The registration for human players (and bot developers that send a DLL) closes tomorrow (Friday) at 23:00 CEST. After that time, I will reveal the Challogne and finalize the bracket on liquipedia.
Krasi0 bot added to the tournament. I will be operating it during the tournament.
Also a reminder that bot vs human and bot vs bot games have to be played with "Use map settings" (UMS) due to the fact that bots don't have anti hack loaded in.
I'm playing just fine without anti hack with Melee game mode. One on One or Top vs Bottom count as ladder games, so as long we don't do those it should be fine.
Registration is now closed. You can find the bracket at BWAPI mini Tour 1 .
Since I can let my bot (and krasi0 bot which I also operate) run in Wmode, I will be available on Skype in the ICCUP skype group and on TL. Once you have finished a game, upload it to http://repdepot.net/ and send the link to me via TL pm together with the result of the game.
Since the bots are very CPU heavy, I will only be running one at a time. So the first match that I will play is Krasi0bot vs Russia Tokyoa . The matches of Krasi0bot vs LetaBot have already been run internally. Tscmoo is not operated by me.
Since edits to the wiki do not need to be checked, I will keep the bracket up to date there. If anyone wants, I can also use the Challonge system.
In the human vs human matches you have until 12:30 CEST to appear for the tournament. If by then you still are not available for your first match, you will automatically forfeit all your games.
You can contact me for any issues during the tournament.
In case you got first or second place, contact me on the TL pm. There we will arrange how the paysafe code is going to be transferred to you.
The channel on ICCUP is: BWAPI . See you all tomorrow.
Don't expect too much out of my bot. I still have some modules that will only be finished for the CIG by the looks of it. Anyway here is a poll for all you who love to predict outcomes:
Congratulations to iwl-fuNny (Nexus1) for second place and Trutacz for first place.
Since all bots can still only barely reach D+ it should be of no surprise that C level and above still triumph over the bots. This tournament showed that early ling pressure seems to be a problem that bots still face. This information can prove useful for the upcoming CIG tournament for all bot developers.
I will be making a quick recap video of all games play today. I am planning to rebroadcasted all the bot games with live commentary somewhere after 15 July.
Once I have all the replays, I will upload them and put a link here and on the wiki. Repdepot seems bugged right now (all replays 0kb), so they will be placed somewhere else for now. If you played in this tournament, zip/rar all your replays from this tournament, upload them to a file dropped and PM me on TL with the link. Thanks in advance.

Interesting results. Since you say the bots are around D+ level, will you be playing them on the ladder to figure out where they need to improve? I remember the UAlberta Skynet bot played some games and was able to beat a few C- players.

Yes it is. That is where the VODs will be uploaded.

I also let my bot play on ICCUP unranked every once in a while to figure out improvements for my bot. From what I have seen, the bots play decent in the mid game, but are still very weak in the early game. Late game some bots have trouble with late game units from other races.
After I receive the replays from Malkiyah via an alternative to repdepot.com (like filedropper) I will upload all replays and make a quick recap video.
BTW, does anybody know what happened to repdepot.net? All replays there seem to have been reduced to 0kb . Did the server run out of HD space?
Since the deadline for the CIG has been extended, I might do a BWAPI mini tour #2 at 26 July. This time LetaBot can do more than rush builds, so don't expect the same as #1 .
