Shanghai Weituo is hosting a Starcraft tournament similar to the ones we've seen in the past (coverage here: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/bw-tournaments/436423-china-bw-starcraft-asia-open).
Part one of the tournament completed yesterday, which was a Chinese open bracket, from which ten players advanced to the final main event.
The Korean online tournament has eight Korean BJs participating, of which, two will advance and join the ten qualified Chinese players in the offline main event to be held in Shanghai (I think).
Players
The eight participating players are (subject to change depending on player availability):
Mind
Guemchi
Shuttle
Larva
Snow
Modesty
Pure
Jaehoon
The players are to be divided into two groups:
Group A:
Mind
Guemchi
Shuttle
Larva
Group B:
Snow
Modesty
Pure
Jaehoon
The players will then play the standard double elimination, where each match is BO3. Four plays will advance from each group, to play in the BO5 semifinals and then the BO7 final.
Top two players will advance to the next round, with the winner receiving 5000 RMB (US$800) cash prize.
Schedule:
May 23rd 20:00 KST: Group A May 24th 20:00 KST: Group B May 30th 20:00 KST: Semi Finals May 31st 20:00 KST: Final

You should at least be able to watch the fpv of the players on snipes.

According to the SCNTV, the Korean players are practising very hard for these games. Might get some nice games on their stream even before the matches.

I'm pretty sure they won't be bringing their streaming setup to China ~_~

unless someone restreams you wont get to see these, and i find access to the SCNTV sites are very laggy. Be sure to include links/reps if available

This particular event should be available on the snipe restreams. The main event... is another story.

Yeah that's why I gave up pretty quickly and also appreciate a lot what you are doing. Pretty much no one knows what's going on except the few organizers and the only way to get accurate and reliable information is to ask them directly on QQ.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the only real organization in China that is open about streaming their content to the west with no strings attached would be NeoTV. I've exhausted every method at my disposal to try to access bigger leagues with just observer positions and they all say no.

Let sAviOr play so he can win the tournament and see all ppl raging about it
Aside of that, it's always good to have new ex pro tournament.
|
Wow, that's a lot of protoss. What's happening?
|
Awesome! The previous tourney (from what little I could watch at the time) was epic!
Also: please bring her back for the main event

I hope that China BW will grow. Too bad the coverage is so bad.

Hey for anyone interested in the Chinese scene, there are currently a 1 vs 1 event called "C-OSL" with a total price pool of $5000.00 USD sponsored by an architecture company ( http://www.shvtjz.com/ ).
Thread: http://bbs.plu.cn/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=4986165&extra=page=1&filter=typeid&typeid=118&typeid=118
There also other MULTIPLE of tournaments going on in the Chinese community for Brood War. The SC1 scene there is very vibrant and growing healthily with an increase of price money after each C-OSLs much like how Sonic is growing the Korean scene. Its only US that need to step up our games in bringing in more viewers and sponsorship for the game.
But all in all, BW is growing is actually growing at decent pace. We have to see how well received will the OGN event go in order for OGN to show interest in BW again and if BisuDagger knows any details whether or not GOM TV will host another BW event or not.
Fighting!

OT: I haven't really watched the Chinese hosted tournaments for Korean Pros. Have they been entertaining? Anything worth recasting?

Both Snow and Pure played extremely poorly vs Hyuk.
Snow lost to a 5 hatch hydra bust Pure lost to Hyuk's 9 pool speed twice in a row
Disappointing series overall. I'll update the results with youku videos.

Just to give an update after examining the VODs:
Guemchi > Hyuk Modesty > Boradori
And in the Bo7 finals:
Modesty beat Guemchi 4-1
Modesty once again showing that he is the Jaedong of the SOSPA Era!
