Why this map pool? Fighting Spirit: This map has been a staple of the multiplayer realm since 2009. Used in the Kespa professional map pool from 2009 to 2010 it has seen action in 19 different leagues. It's no question when it comes to balance it is the best, as the worst match up is ZvP which has a 53.4% win rate in favor of zerg. Over taking python and other notable maps, Fighting Spirit has become the standard for any multiplayer game on ICCUP.
Neo Electric Circuit and Neo Jade find themselves being played in the qualifiers as they are two of the most current maps played in the Late Kespa premier leagues. These maps show the perfect circle of life in BW. T>Z>P>T However below I'll show you what favors whom in detail.
Neo Electric Circuit: Below you can see Terran players generally have had the most success on this map and have a great advantage vZ. Protoss should also do there best to avoid this map vZ. TvZ: 22-9 (71%) ZvP: 15-7 (68.2%) PvT: 7-5 (58.3%)
Neo Jade : Below you can see Protoss has the advantage here in the matchups while Terran is less favored. This is also a map zerg would prefer to see if they are playing a Terran. TvZ: 2-2 (50%) ZvP: 5-6 (45.5%) PvT: 10-7 (58.8%)
Where can I learn more about strategy of the game? Whether new or a veteran Chill's Recommended Threads in the Brood War Strategy section can give you tons of information.
Where can I watch VODS of Brood War? The Small Vod Thread is a great resource on how to find the latest pro games on these maps. It also is a great place to add new VODs from Brood Wars finest foriegn tournaments if you find yourself with time to add any there.
Also, Sayle's youtube channel is full of VODS from our most recent foreign tournaments
Where can I find people that actively play Brood War? This whole tournament is being played through an active server called ICCUP. While there are other servers, such as FISH, this is the one the has had the best relationship with TL.
The Internation Cyber Cup also referred to as iCCup, was first launched in the year 2007. Beginning and majoring with StarCraft, iCCup continued to grow throughout the years. Eventually iCCup became so big that expansion into other areas of eSports was necessary. Thus the addition of Counter-Strike, DOTA, and WarCraft.
With the ever growing popularity of iCCup eventually it began to attract the Korean population, more so the Korean Progamers. In return, even more foreign players began to play on iCCup with the hopes of being matched up against a Progamer.
With around 3 to 4 seasons per year, a ton of money prize tournaments, Clan Leagues, and much more, iCCup became a huge success and what you see today is the result of the hard work put in by every single person that is involved in someway with iCCup.
Regards, iCCup Crew
Getting involved with Brood War on iCCup is great because it will prevent map hackers and give you the most friendly environment on earth. Learn how to start playing Starcraft on iCCup right now! Wow another ZvZ T_T I think I've only ever played ZvZs in the tours I've played in. BWMN Open 4 ZvZs in a row, TLS #2 2 ZvZs, TLS #4 1 ZvZ T_T_T I should learn to play it properly.

I am expecting Flip or Julia to win this one.
yea, its time a zerg advance from the qualifiers
yeah man I am tired of there not being any zergs in foreign events
I'm looking at this bracket, and - this is basically the TLZ at this point, isn't it. NTTAWWT. (Okay, yes there is.)
The thing is, I don't actually know much about the foreign scene - does this reflect the race mix at the top for real, or is this flukey? And if this is the normal race mix, is it just that we have a lot of Zergs, or is there some balance (yes, the dreaded B word) that needs to be addressed (maps or strategic innovation)?
If someone could give me a quick run-down, I'd appreciate it - this is the first BW tournament I've watched (other than Torenhire/Gem League) since Proleague jumped on the SC2 bandwagon.

BW is incredibly balanced, the only problem is we are lacking top level terrans at the moment. It just happens to be coincidental that /most/ of the best terrans are inactive to evenly distribute racial balance.
In general T > Z > P > T, so we have many Protosses and Zergs, but most Protosses die to Zergs, therefore we are getting tons of Zergs. The few good Terrans are killing a few zergs, but over many Bo1s it's probable that they will die to one of them.
Good terrans that are inactive: Bizzy/Bibiane/Pro7ect/PatrOn/etc. Also, we have a few current terrans that could post slightly better results.
The strangest thing is that Electric Circuit is a heavily terran > zerg map, yet the map stats are saying otherwise.

I remember big debates about TvZ on Electric Circuit - in proleague it came out heavily T > Z, but like 80% of games the Terran was Flash or Light, which had to have screwed the apparent balance up completely. Did that hold true in other tournaments up till now, then?

For koreans only, I am not sure why the foreigners don't adopt their style of play. For instance in SSL (Sonic league) and other amateur korean leagues, players like mong completely destroy zergs on this map.
I wish the casters would use there players ID's instead of other names their known as. As someone who isnt up to date on current brood war players, I have no idea who they are talking about half the time.
Last time around I was praising this cast for how informative it was for us BW noobs, helping us understand the matchups, but today it exceeded all my expectations. "You need stuff to protect your stuff or you won't have anymore stuff" - Elegant. I finally understand this game!

That last game was hilarious. Like Mine Game quality funny (GrethSC did a series of games that were dominated by spider mines, he called it the Mine Games)

oh I'm just happy to see queens work. julia played great in the second game, props to him. I hope I get some points next saturday (don't think I can make it sunday) and make the tourney, playing has been super fun.
I was expecting to lose vs flip after he demolished me in the first game so delighted to have gotten further than I thought
We need everyone to register for 5/6, there are many good players that are not currently in top 12 and need to at least get sufficient points to qualify.

also, even tho there's a lot of zergs currently qualified and likely to qualify, several of those players play pvz or tvz instead of zvz, meaning there's not gonna be thaat overwhelming amount of zvz.
depends on the draw obviously, let's just hope for no early stage tvt;p

Dre plays only PvT, skzlime is the only other Terran. Nemu does TvZ, you apparently PvZ, but the rest are ZvZ.

voddy pvz'ed against me and he's already in I was happy about him going p cuz I thought I would have to, and I like zvp more.
lol I'm redoing all my math right now to double check through, let's just say that I probably fucked it all up yesterday when I was not in the soberest state of mind -_-
ya I'm too lazy to do the math but I'm pretty certain he's through even in the weirdest of hypotheticals.
with the wide distribution of points so far, it's unlikely that everyone already above 40 continues to rack up points + some of the already high scorers are likely to end up getting top 2 in one of the next rounds, removing them from the equation.

I thought technics also played pvz?
nah technics was trolling, and you are right: voddy will do PvZ or TvZ because he played those races before full timing zerg and I guess he doesn't like ZvZ. However, there's still easily 60% zergs and they are the best players in the tour.
edit: we need a 3 game final next weekend, all of them so far have been sweeps T_T
On January 21 2013 10:26 Sayle wrote: So basically dRaW, you need to win the whole TLS so we don't have a ZvZ grand finals.
THIS. All he really needs to do is pick an all zerg group (Which shouldn't be hard -.-) and then just ignore PvP and PvT and only practice PvZ and there we go we have our champion!

Mazur is inactive. He hasn't played in any of the qualifiers.

Stop dodging Mazi, you're not dRaW. Come kill some zergs.
Stop pulling a draw... Wait 4-5 months? We can call this pulling a Mazur now. If you are concerned about your level of skill, don't worry you never had any + Show Spoiler +
