Has he explained to you how this works? Why is a Canadian sponsoring an event in Europe with 18,000$ he just got from "somewhere"?

Unless you know, why would you stake your reputation on Eywa?

I will stake my name and reputation on Eywa because I know for a fact this thing is happening. the logistics aren't 100% finalized yet but we will have this be one of the most epic tournaments outside of korea.

you're staking your "reputation" on this with the OP already lying to people?

Any questions? Don't be afraid to ask!

The longer you wait to explain anything, the more "reputation" you will lose. Also, why the police record thing? What's that about? Do you have any idea what you're asking for here?

It's really no personal information at all assuming that you're clean. Every long distance employer demands this, if reason is brought up to why people can't provide it and it is deemed valid, then I will process the request.

This is the big question which everyone has been asking. The money has come from a series of fundraising events which have been conducted by myself while the product being produced by NoisE and venues located by EleGanT. Hence, NoisE being put first in the sponsorship crew, he's worked the hardest to make the money to be honest.

OK. I've woken up and read it again, but I still don't understand it very well.

You list 2 dates, November 10th and April 12-14. But the first one isn't actually a date of the tournament, it's the starting date of (a number of?) qualifiers. How many people qualify? Can everyone join the qualifiers? Elegant is going to be in Prague to cast and there's a theatre room where people can watch? How many? Do we need to buy a ticket?

"Qualifiers" starts out with admitted countries. But Canadia isn't in there yet Dragon can play?
OK so, at the main event in Prague there will be 2 tournaments. One individual and one for teams. And it's one team per country and 4 teams can qualify who then get to travel to Prague to play this tournament?

So there's an individual event too. You can qualify for this by gathering points throughout a series of qualifiers. But you only play against your countrymen. And then 16 players qualify? So does that mean there will be qualifiers per nation. So the one kid playing Starcraft in Andorra would get points easily while Germany also gets to send only one player? What does "will be dependent on the overall participation of the top players in that country as well as their skill level" mean. Does that, mean that if you're the only one playing in Andorra you have a lower chance of qualifying (no matter how good you are? Also why call it elo when it's points. They're different things.

Oh wait. So the national qualifiers are not organised by you, but by volunteers from that nation. They have to set things up themselves, contact you, get approved, and then run it themselves?
"Player sign ups are accepted through till it is judged impossible for a newly registered player to qualify due to point advancement." I don't understand this sentence.

So okay. An unidentified number of players can qualify per nation, dependent on the skill and showing of that nation as judged by unidentified standards, and 16 of them in total get a paid trip to Prague. But wait, other players can go too without winning a trip through qualification first. How many of them?

I'm terribly sorry to have to say this, and I truly hope this is just be being stupid, but the OP is very hard to make sense of.

November 10th is the day qualifiers will start, April dates are the Main Stage. I know this is a long time for qualifiers, however, there are many things that go into these and I can't be managing 5-10 tournaments on a single weekend.

The tickets are by reservation (hence the ballpark number of seats which will be in the cinema rounded up to their next biggest room). Donations are asked for, but not required. There is no entry fee per say.

It's dynamic, however, there is a good idea of how many will qualify per country, it will be announced in more detail once the bulk of sign ups are in by November 10th.

People may associate their events with the league if approved, it is not required.

There will be a series organized by me, but it's always best if there's more added by the community.

Correct, we will allocate that number based on number of sections of qualifications, currently we were looking at 6 different "areas" which would equate to about 5 possible attendances per area, however, this is not statically assigned yet due to the fact that we have never run something quite like this before, so there is always the possibility of an overload of players in which case we had best not have a set amount promised before we hold the cards in our hands. That will be determined 100% before the first qualifier.

You'll have to validate yourself, but given that you are well known and a top player, it's likely that it will be made easy for you because we know your game and hot keys very well.

how much of your business plan is based on things happening in the best way possible?

for example, you have repeatedly stated that "donations are optional but not required". so much so that i, and surely others in the thread, am beginning to question whether you have truly secured all the funding. if there was a total of $0 donated, to what extent would the event (and the prize pool) be affected? to what extent will the funding of logistics be affected? how reliant is the tournament on donations being made? if you aren't reliant on donations being made and the prize pool isn't effected, what will the donations be used for?

what does the worst-case scenario in terms of participation look like? you stated that you will organize some qualifier rounds but are also banking on community organizers running numerous tournaments on your behalf. in the event that zero voluntary qualifiers happen, how would the choosing of players and qualifications be effected? how will the policies of these volunteer qualifiers be handled? will there be a standardized set of rules or is it just up to the people running the show for you?

you have a donation link to "send NA player to Euro 2013" with what seems to be an arbitrary goal ($4000). Is $4000 enough to truly fund NA players' trips to the finals? What happens if you only hit $3000 in donation? Why didn't you reduce the prize pool by $4000 and make it a more international (NA + EU) tournament with access to a larger pool of quality players?

thanks in advance for your abundantly coherent and clear-cut answers.

What do you need to know for registration?

Do we organise our own tournament's, per country?

Is it over 18's only?

How many tournaments are nessacary to qualify?

Are you saying you find it odd that some people here think this whole thing is sketchy? I mean, we're talking about a 40k prize pool with free accommodations/transport/etc for a Brood War event. Is it really so strange that people might question how you guys got the funds, and be a little suspicious of the whole event?

I'm not taking sides here, just putting things in perspective.

EDIT: Relevant: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=90367

Even though that event was shown to be legit after all (somewhat), there was a lot of speculation about the integrity of the guy, for a 700 dollar prize pool. This event is many times greater in scope and prizepool. You should expect a little skepticism.

It's really not that. People are skeptical because this goes several levels beyond "too good to be true". Eywa's name may encourage people to be more vocal with their concerns, but the root cause of it is that this is just so much bigger than anything we have seen in a while that it is hard to imagine that it could be put together without prominent corporate support (and even then it would still fall under the category of "too good to be true").

"reputation". Nice. Thanks, I was just trying to reassure people, because believe it or not, I may have actually been consulted about this before it was released publicly. Yes, I did know what was going on when I said it, I'm not some overtrusting moron running around putting my neck out for scammers.

No I'm just saying I find it pretty convenient how some of the people are the same people who have bad mouthed about eywa before.

But This is also taken as a corporation enterprise. EywaSC wasn't just something we thought up of out of thin air, we've worked long and hard to create it and the image of what it's going to eventually be.

wouldn't it make sense to put some cash prize in the qualifiers if you have such a big prize pool anyways? something similar to team liquid star league 4 qualifiers.

1st: 10pts + $50
2nd: 8pts + $25
3rd: 5pts + 10
4th: 2pts
5th: 1pt
6th: 1pt
7th+: 0pts

something like that.

It doesn't seem like much, however, this would take a big toll in the long run. It was evaluated in terms of priority and cost. In the end, it was given a very low priority with a very high cost = doesn't get done.

you have eight $100 prizes, why not use this instead for qualifiers? people can use their qualifier winnings to help fund their travel to prague in april.

for example, just a quick search on air canada i found out that the cheapest round trip (fly there and back) from a big city such as toronto to prague costs $409 total (base fare $99, fuel surcharge $208, taxes $102), if i were to buy my ticket today for a april 2013 flight.

if you were to make it so that only winners of each qualifier gets cash prizes, then even $50 would help slightly to cover the travel cost. if you made it so that winners of each qualifier gets $100 then that's nearly 25% of the travel cost covered already.

i'm pretty sure that if your mini tournament qualifiers had some cash prizes it would attract more viewers and give you more credibility early on.

btw i'm not saying you're bullshitting and i don't know much about you to have that kind of opinion. just speaking what's on my mind.

also have a set amount of qualifiers like 10 for europe and 5 for north america so that you don't end up spending too much on qualifier cash prizes.
