As an Australian supporting the underdogs is a natural instinct. Hence today, I shall be supporting Samsung Khan to win it.. No but really, having such a deep lineup team8 hasn't been performing at all. It feels like the team is similar to Team USA's bid for Olympic glory in 2004. I remember the commentators saying that there was 1billion dollars sitting on the US team bench and yet they played badly and got the bronze. I attribute this to their changing their name from the "Dream Team" to "Team USA". On a lesser note a lack of cohesion amongst team members could also have influenced their play. When you have a team full of winners, they don't play for the team, they play for themselves.
There is no pressure for players to perform if they are just hitting their performance criterion and winning games here and there.
BUT when there is team spirit players go out of their way to win because they don't want to dissapoint their team mates who worked so hard to help them practice!
I think this will come with time for team 8 but not this season. Hopefully some team spirit is built up and team 8 gives us a strong showing next season!
or maybe they just need to change their name to "Dream Team" to win (this is the sole reason the USA basketball team won gold in 2008 after learning their name changing lesson in Greece!)
Here are the predictions:
BaBy« Ground Zero » JangBi All things considered, this mu heavily favours Jangbi both with recent form and H2H count (4:2). But knowing this, Baby will cheese like a swiss man that just ran out of chocolate! It will be epic, surgical and efficient. gg no re!
Killer « Chain Reaction » Shine Shine is a zvz sniper with a whopping 66% winrate in the mu. Given Chain reaction is prone to zvz I feel that this would be advantageous to Shine against anyone but the dong in team 8. I don't think they'll send jaedong out unless they're 2 down or until the 5th match. But then again, the mu is such a cointoss so you never know!
Sea « Electric Circuit »TurN Sea has been performing badly this season mostly due to getting protoss almost every time and korean players just seem to love cheesing him. But given that this game goes to the midgame ( I believe in you sea! ) I think that he has a really good chance of winning!
Jaehoon « Sniper Ridge » Stork Even though stork has never come out on this map because stork thinks this map is imba I'm sure january will convince him that it's actually stork favoured! That's right, it's perfect for carriers and the like and I know birdtoss can pull it off (even if SKT protosses can't)! Anywho, I think this match might be a pvp and so stork clearly the victor.
edit: Stork has come out on this map and is currently 2:0 pvz...whoops...research fail. Albeit, stork hasn't been sent out on this map since the start of the season! Hence my stance on January convincing him to go out on snipers ridge still stands!
Jaedong « Outlier » Grape If anyone remembers the epic MSL matches between Grape and Jaedong you'd be as excited as me for this mu! They were absolutely epic games and I'm sure if it comes down to the ace match we'll see something similar! My heart says jaedong but my brain says Grape on this one given Jaedong's recent lack of performance this season. All we can be sure of is that it will be a game to remember!

Team 8 Looking for Their Third Consecutive Win, Must Have an Answer for Protoss
- Team 8 looking to get their third consecutive win when they face Saumsung - Finding an answer to opponent Protosses is the key to victory
Team 8 is looking to establish the longest winning streak in their short history so far when they go up against Samsung Kahn on Wednesday, February 1st, in a week 4 matchup of the second round of the SK Planet Proleague Season 1.
Team 8, formed from the top players of Hwaseung OZ, MBCGame Hero, and WeMade FOX - teams that were disbanded following the 10-11 season - have only been able to win consecutive matches on just two occasions so far. In Round 1, they beat KT and ACE back to back, but followed this up with 6 consecutive losses. However, they are faring better in Round 2 so far, beating CJ and Woongjin in consecutive games. With a victory over Kahn, they will be able to not only record their longest winning streak in their history so far, but also move themselves off the bottom of the standings table by moving to a 5-7 record.
In their meeting in Round 1, Kahn got the better of Team 8 and defeated them 3-1. Jaedong did well to beat RorO, but his teammates could not overcome Kahn's Protoss line. Sea, Jaehoon and Tyson fell to JangBi, Brave and Stork respectively, leading to the Team 8 defeat.
Kahn's Protoss line will most likely feature heavily in this match also, and therefore Team 8 will be facing an uphill battle. Sea, in particlar, has been unable to shake off his bad form this season, going 2-7 overall and just 1-6 against Protoss opponents. The team's ace, Jaedong, is 3-2 against Protoss, while Jaehoon is 1-2, BaBy is 1-1, and Tyson is 0-1, indicating an team-wide weakness to Protoss.
In order for Team 8 to get their third consecutive win, they need a plan against Kahn's Protosses. In recent matches, Team 8 has employed some unorthodox strategies to confuse their opponents, leading some to expect that they will have responses for this match.
Team 8's head coach, Ju Hoon, said that "Everybody knows that Kahn has been doing well this season by relying on their Protoss line. Breaking this line will be a test for us in terms of showing how competitive we can be, so we have prepared a lot for this match, and we will show this preparation in the match."
My prediction is that the Dong will pull off a victory against Stork, but Sea, Jaehoon, and Killer will lose, sealing the fate of the tournament. Baby has improved so much that he will probably win, but it wont be enough.
Overall, the Dong, Stork, and Sea appear to be slumping (for Stork, I believe a permanent decline), which is not offset by the improving Baby and .Killer.
TEAM 8 for 3 winning streak! and wtf is up with that graphic , Khans playing 3 matches in a single week? i want to see Stork vs Jaedong dont care who wins
Man, I'm sure one could write up an mission briefing fanfic with that kind of banner... Hope Team 8 wins, winning streak like this is exactly what the dream team needs to get back on the feet.
impossible to call, sea and baby shouldn't be able to beat stork and jangbi in TvP, sea probably can't beat brave tbh, but stork and jangbi are definitely not playing their best. I'd like to see Turn vs. JD actually, I think that'd be a sick game.
So weird to see BW playing during sleep time now that I'm back in the States(CST). I really feel the dedication from fans living far from KST. Hopefully I wake up tomorrow to a Khan win. With Stork beating Jaedong in an epic match.
T8 needs a win to keep in the playoff race. Khan wins and they'll move to 2nd, furthering themselves from the equator line with the rest of the Proleague besides KT/SKT1.
Is that sarcasm about Stork and Sniper Ridge? He is 2-0 there.
Khan will surely take this. Stork can beat anyone on their team, so that's an auto-win. JangBi should be favoured against anyone except maybe Jaedong. Then Shine or Roro will Zerg it up for the 3-0.

I love Team 8 but I can't see them beating Khan somehow.
But then again I also couldn't see Stars beating CJ last night, so I'm ready for yet more FMLB if it comes to that. So many upsets so far this season. <3
I hope to see Stork vs Jaedong @ Sniper Ridge. Stork played so well against ZerO on that map. Interesting fact : Stork is actually the only protoss who won a PvZ on that map.

hoping for jaedong to tear stork/jangbi a new one ^^
alternatively, i wouldn't mind seeing sea get owned by early toss aggression from stork/jangbi either that would be freaking hilarious
also when will my 2 favourite zergs (shine/roro) get a chance to play? T-T still so sad about my 2 favourite players getting transferred to my least favourite team

Samsung has been doing pretty well without them, and they will probably continue to field mostly protoss players. Also Team 8 is known for being weak against protoss, so...
I guess the real answer is that they will field Roro when FPL will start again and there will be anti-teams to destroy :D

WOW STORK SO GOOD HE MANNERED PYLON A ZERG !!!
LOL
Zerg is taking his third at another main instead of a natural ! Crazyness ! Stork going DTs, the Bisu build ?
I don't understand why Jaehoon didn't build an earlier forge to defend the ninja expo with a cannon or two.. It shows quite clearly who's the better player here.. Probe massacre!

if Jaehoon got earlier forge and build a cannon at his third then he would have had this
On February 01 2012 20:20 Vuk_91 wrote: Why no one used storms this game? Why did Jaehoon build a DA ? Why did he build a ninja expo? So many questions...
The DA was used to feedback all of Stork's HT's in the first fight, only reason he held it off and didn't let storms shred his army
On February 01 2012 20:20 Vuk_91 wrote: Why no one used storms this game? Why did Jaehoon build a DA ? Why did he build a ninja expo? So many questions...
i hope jaedong saw jangbi's recent interview and remembers to bm the shit out of him when he owns him ^^ (a jangbi vs jaedong is likely at this stage anyways)
Doing somewhat of a contain and droping at the same time is really strange for me, he's just suiciding his army into Brave's main, where his army is standing with storms and a shit ton of zealots.
That was sooooo bad from Killer. Seriously, what is it with those stupid stupid strats team 8? Fail ninja expo into gg and then scouted bad drop all in into stuborness into undefended rape by dt into gg. Wtf?
This was actually extremely well played by Brave. He just didnt build more than 3 canons. Most Protosses would have bunkered the front with 6 ~canons and not have enough stuff to defend the main. Very very well played by Brave.
On February 01 2012 20:46 Scarecrow wrote: the drop play might have worked if brave hadn't skimped on cannons at the front, something must've tipped him off that killer wasn't going to bust
his sair scouted the hydra count, so he knew he had enough to hold.

this is what won him the game, more gateways instead of more cannons.

Shouldnt killer have attacked the front though, it looked like he could have broken him.
Killer was stubborn and it didn't seem like he had much of a back up plan. Was he really committed to making the drop? The fact that there were only 3 cannons at the front would suggest a higher gateway count.

I think he should have just ogne to the front door, he was stuck up against a wall and storms jsut broke him, at the front he could just back out.
On February 01 2012 20:46 Scarecrow wrote: the drop play might have worked if brave hadn't skimped on cannons at the front, something must've tipped him off that killer wasn't going to bust
The fact he didn't move in to attack the cannons was a hint. The bigger one was the (scouted) lair. The third tip was the amount of overlords around his base (scouted with corsairs). The fourth tip was no lurkers, which was the only option left for a delayed bust with a lair, other than a drop, or mass expanding. In either case, the correct response was "make units and kill him", not more cannons. The locations of the overlords was a big hint to focus on templar/zealots instead of a more goon heavy composition. It was a good read.
Killer could have won when Brave was still warping his third cannon and his front gatewat was down. The longer he waited, the clutcher the timing window to win would be. He could've sniped the cannons and then morphed lurkers to break the front imo..
why is the camera following only the blond ? not that it matters cause she is very cute but still is this from someone in the audience seems too stable for it to be
On February 01 2012 20:46 ShadeR wrote: Hmm i think what tipped it was brave not over committing on cannons at the front.
Yeah 1-2 more wasted cannons and it would've been much closer
Remember that Bork interview where Bisu spoke about how the importance of the sair was less air control but rather the first sair gleaning information about the zerg strategy. Stork said that he struggles to accurately assess what he scouts unlike Bisu. It seems that Brave has a level of understanding of PvZ where he is able to do as Bisu does in gauging the zerg build order. Of course i might be over analysing as this map pretty much screams hydra drop as much as pathfinder.

Oh please, we had sick matches this week-end. Yeah I'm sad for team 8, but don't be that negative. Bad game sense by Baby, that many lings should have tipped him of, especially on this map, it's so much better for lurker cheese than for muta with the backdoor.
WTF. I didn't expect T8 to beat Khan but I didn't expect them to go down 3-0 either. Come on Jaedong, be less human and more Flash and carry your team some more.
Really, what is up with T8. No one, seriously NO ONE, not Baby, not Killer, not Sea, not Jaedong is playing good in that team? They're not practicing? Not eating? No salary? They know something we don't about their team that might be a source of their terrible performance? Seriously come on guys.
On February 01 2012 21:11 Elroi wrote: I was very disapointed with killer. Wtf happened with all his skill??
It was more brave playing well and reacting perfectly to what he scouted than killer's fail. Even with good storm dodging minidong wasn't going to win. There's not much else you can do with an all-in when a capable opponent reads it that well.
Jaehoon played well. He made three mistakes: one for letting 2nd dt do damage, second not transferring probes from hidden expo because dt could wipe it, and third taking a third instead of counterattack Stork's third as his was late. His da feedbacks were really really good.
Brave said that he knew how to deal with the build completely because he faced it yesterday. Baby lost because of a small timing but I feel that aggressive lurker builds are very strong on that map

why do people keep saying every zerg is a zvz specialist? :/ just because zvz is someone's best match up doesn't mean they're a specialist
the only zvz specialists are crazy-hydra and modesty. if you look at their other match ups they're hopeless, but their zvz is very solid.
edit: nice prediction bro
zvz is Shine's best matchup, by far. He also holds the record for the longest zvz victory streak. I think it's quite safe to say that he is a zvz specialist. He's shown some awesome games against other races (ask Kal lol) but statistically he is mediocre at them.
Well Baby has never been reliable anyway and I lost faith he'll be the S class some day, Jaedong is too old to perform every game, Killer has never been a good player, except for the this year, but I do not see any potential in him anyway. Jaehoon is a forever sacrifice dummy, unstable controversial player that is good only, well, when there is noone better. Tyson should have been a better player, but we can't see him play often. And Sea the only stable and stong player in the team, who was cheesed like there is no tomorrow. I still do have hopes only for Sea and Tyson.
What puzzling me is why does T8 coach not send Ryul2 Sang or Speed? They do not have much to lose anyway. Let the smaller guys play. I don't see any good strategy behind these black glasses.

You don't have access to the results of their internal placement matches. If those guys are getting raped in training what's the point of sending them over guys who are beating them?

From what I read on Fomos post-game article and interview (I did not actually watch the game itself yet) + Show Spoiler +
Roro vs Baby Baby starts 14CC and initially goes unpunished Roro sensing that he has no chance if he tries to catch up economically, he goes for lurkerling all-in Roro went ling speed upgrade to limit Baby's scouting Baby doesn't have starsense to guess what Roro is doing so he goes academy -> double scan to see what's up By then Roro got his lurkers so he goes in, not enough bunkers, GG Post-game interview: Roro predicted that because he's so known for going macro every fucking time, Baby wouldn't have guessed that he would go lurker all-in so he just pulled that shit up. Roro says sorry and good luck next time to Baby.

no, its on the fly
Actually although the coaches has the ability make the decision on the fly, the players are almost always predetermined by them. And the main reason for that is so that the coaches can allow each individual player to focus on one map only during practice so they would feel more prepared for their game. Just ask Flash who said it was much easier to prepare for only one map after the removal of the ACE feature.
Far out! I fell asleep last night...I was so tired yesterday, I was hoping to take a nap before the games started and I slept all the way through to the morning lol. This is the first game I've missed watching live in a very very long time.
Dammit, Team 8 losing 0-3! Wtf...terrible results to wake up to. And not a single recommended game to boot, was it that bad? I'll skim through the vods. Seriously, it's so hard to predict Team 8's performance, at this point I can't say they'll make the play-offs with any confidence T_T

Yeah it was that bad. I thought it was bad and I watched the VODs in a non-spoiled fashion.
It's so strange to live in a world where Flash is the unshakeable beast who never slumps. Of all the TaekBangLeeSsang it felt like the one who would never slump for long would always be Jaedong, he just seemed that much better than the rest of the field (outside of those four) that he'd never have to worry about getting standard wins. Makes me wonder how much of his prime was wasted during Flash's beastmode year ;_;

I just dont get it. If a team is down 0-2, why doesnt it send its best?
How does that make sense? If you're down 0-2, you still need 3 wins. If you send your best, you get one win. Then you still need your worse players to get 2 wins in the next 2 games. So what the coaches do is send players that will have the best chance based on the map and who they think the other team will send out.
you know, i was looking in this thread at work around 2115 kst in my lunch break, and assumed that the third set had been going on for quite a long length of time.
do you know why?
because the OP thought he was watching SC2 and put in more spoiler tags than necessary. please stop doing that. if i'm clicking on results I WANT TO BE SPOILED and don't want to overlooked excessive tags in light grey and see roro's game was already done.
Maybe you should just pay attention. If anything there should be a series of tags for each game result followed by a tag for the full results, but it's not really worth complaining about.

meh, it's kinda annoying if there is no overall results section/spoiler. that's what i usually just click on as well...

LMAO
I guess you were the one claiming that T8 win the PL) actually, I expected them to perform just the way they do now, when they did pretty well in the beginning, I though I was wrong, but I was not) So if you ask me, they'll continue sucking, making everyone wonder wtf is wrong with T8, till Kespa either changes the coach (which is a good point) or disbands the team (which is bad)?
Oh my... you're sooooooooo smart, how can I become smart like you?

You may want all the results to be spoiled if you're clicking on results, but that doesn't mean that everyone does. Some people may want to know the results of the earlier games but watch the later ones unspoiled. Is it that hard to click one or two extra times for your results?
Unlike what the thread have summarized, the games aren't half bad quality-wise.
Game 1, we saw two unorthodox build muscling at each other with a fatal mistake follow by a brilliant usage of Feedback on HTs action. Even though game 2 didn't exactly feature professional-level execution by the loser, it did prove to be a viable strategy if done meticulously. Game 3, people complained about the winner winning by sheer luck but I beg to differ that if you were to discount occurence of good fortune, a certain Terran's win streak must also be revised. The loser of this match just got caught at an exploitable timing.
I guess that it is the fact that an underdog team losing in an abysmal manner have made this day filled with melancholy.

Couldn't watch it live. Just watched the VODs.
I agree that game 1 was actually pretty good but the other 2 were awfully bad. Very disappointed in BaBy's crisis management as he has more than enough time to build 2-3 turrets with the 3 bunkers while rorO was gathering the 6 lurkers + lings for the final bust. Killer inherited some of JD's stubbornness in game 2, fail drop after fail drop at the exact same spot. The main is so wide open he could have drop a few lurkers at the back or even at the nat.
I don't know whether the poor performance of Team 8 is due to poor coaching or lack of practice partners or the uncertainty of sponsorship. They really need some changes to bring things together.
I'm a little more bummed that Jaedong didn't get to play. I was hoping another game would help me determine just how deep he's fallen in his slump. I'm hoping it's just like that April Curse he had way back when...
Lol @ people expecting team 8 to make playoffs... Everyone knows how much potential this team has and expects them to perform. Yet all we're seeing is team 8 getting humiliated by nearly every single team out there. I'm all for supporting team 8, but with the dismal performance that they are showing, i would be happy for just wins to come by slowly and expect them to lose everytime.
Tbh i don't expect team 8 to make any playoffs till next season unless they can buck up and show better performances
Team 8 did win a few victories recently, but I agree that they are pretty much piss poor right now considering the caliber of players on the team. They have several ace players of the disbanded teams, but they just dont seem to work well together.
Pretty much, Flash is now the undisputed champion of Starcraft.

Yea, no LR So disappointed that you weren't here! kekekeke :>
Funny thing about game 2 is that if Killer had just A moved his hydras into the front instead of waiting for drop to complete he could actually have won this :D.
