+ Show Spoiler + I guess this is where all the money from Light's transfer has gone. I hope MBC does well. I would like to see more of the team in the MST.

It's much more fun to have an extra round, so if the top players drop, it will be on TV in a "fair" way. The MSL is truly the better league. After the OSL offline prelims only 28 players remain (Ro24 + seeds). There is way too much mayhem and way too many good players to not have a middle round there. The previous OSL method was better and meant that after the offline prelims there were 40 players left (Ro36 + 4 seeds). So you had more properly televised games and more of a chance to see good players at least advance to the Ro36. In the MSL, the MST follows the prelims and is televised and has 48 players playing, plus another 8 seeds who are waiting. So your favourite players only have to make it to the top 56 to see them in a properly televised and reasonable 4-player group format. The other OSL problem is the random factor of the Ro8 and beyond. Remember Jaedong and Flash meeting in the OSL Ro8 a year and a half ago and the MSL final? That's because the MSL reseeds based on rank in the Ro8. OSL is as thus: all players who advanced from the Ro16 were either #1 or #2 in their group. Ro8 is random #1 vs #2, as long as they weren't in the same Ro16 group. So in that previous example, Flash was a #2 (lost to Stork) and JD was a #1. But also consider that even if Flash and JD are both #1, they can meet in the Ro4 if they are randomly on the same side of the bracket. This "new" OSL style is of course basically the old one and this is why iloveoov and Savior failed in the prelims multiple times when they were simultaneously winning multiple MSLs. There is a far greater chance of inferior players advancing out of the giant OSL prelim groups because there are so many games played that you don't have time to properly prepare. There is a reason the MSL is nicknamed "Where Bonjwa Happens". The MSL is better. It gets less prestige because it is newer and everyone remembers the Coca-Cola OSL. Boxer was an OSL man first and foremost even later in his career so that also helped. tl;dr MSL > OSL because there are more televised games, an extra round after the prelims that gives the better players more chance to advance, and is less random from the Ro8 and on.

Curious: for the sake of argument, do you think this is evidence for the "Zerg era" theory that says balance has shifted to the point where Zerg is dominant in BW? If less random league -> more Zerg wins (and all-Zerg semis, etc), then at the very least there's an indication that there are more good Zerg players out there at the moment.

I know this may come off as "annoying fan crying imba", but I've always believed that more rounds means more map-imba. So if one particular map works against a particular race, it's hard to overcome that in the MST, MSL group, and then likely going into the Ro16 as the lower seed, hence meaning your opponent gets to take out the map and not you. But that's why its fun to see players like Savior overcoming all obstacles and winning MSLs against the maps.

Agreed. And MSL has the energy and capability of casters they really pump up the game action.. OSL guys kinda seem half hearted, not fully into the game.
