(Note- Yo-hwan = Boxer's name, "hyung" = Korean term for "older brother")
Q: Express how you feel on winning.
A: I don't feel very good. It was to the point where I almost wanted to lose the final. I don't have a feeling as if I won. After each game finished, all I thought about was what Yo-hwan hyung would do the next game, and how I would counter it. Only subconsciously did I think to myself that I didn't want to lose. I feel sad and bittersweet.
Q: You kept the promise that you made to your fans when Ever Starleague started.
A: I don't want to make promises from now on. If I can't keep the promise, I am criticized, and even if I can keep the promise I'm back to the same original situation. I don't want to make promises because of pressure from someone else. If it is a promise that comes from my own heart then I will make it. I don't want to make promises to match the atmosphere around me.
Q: You've conquered all the major leagues.
A: If I had beat someone other than Yo-hwan hyung, I think I would have been much happier. To be honest, even Ever Starleague is forgotten after time passes. There's no use to success in the past, and it's always been this way. So what I'm saying is that although I've won all the major leagues it will eventually become a forgotten past. The only choice is to keep moving forward, instead of dwelling on how well you did in the past.
Q: What do you think is the reason you were able to win?
A: The reason I was able to win is that I played at a subconscious level. I didn't play as I had prepared. I gave myself to the flow of the game.
Q: What was going through your mind watching Yo-hwan crying?
A: I thought to myself that it would have been good if Yo-hwan hyung won. If I had to guess what he was thinking, I would guess it was anger at himself. I would think it was disappointment in himself.
Q: How did you feel in game 4 when you were rushed early?
A: It's the first time I saw a strat like that. Because I was flustered, I was just trying to block it as fast as possible and I made alot of mistakes. It would have been better if I went up on the ledge to defend it but I wasn't able to do that. It's really important not to get flustered.
Q: You family was here to cheer you on.
A: They cheered me while believing in me. I'm so thankful. Also I'm particularly thankful to Koh, In-gyu (Canata). Even though he is in the semifinals of the "King of Rookies," he gave up on his own league, and practiced with me for 12 hours a day for 3 days, taking breaks only to eat. I'm so thankful. It's something I felt while practicing with him but this is a player that is really going to get big. (Canata) is a player who practiced with me for the Cengame finals and joined our team. I think he will be the next one to bear the flag for SK Telecom's terran tradition.
Q: If you can analyse today's games?
A: Today I utterly lost to Yo-hwan hyung when it comes to builds(note: suggesting losing the early game). I think I came out ahead in my execution and gameplay in the mid-late game.
Q: Do you have something you want to say to Yo-hwan?
A: I really hope that now Yo-hwan hyung will never hear from someone else that he is weak. I wish that Yo-hwan hyung will win all of his future tournaments the same way he stepped past so many good players on his road to this Ever Starleague final. I'm sure he was so determined because he hasn't had a win recently... I'm so sad. From now on, although I want to game again with Yo-hwan hyung, I don't want to meet him in this kind of situation ever again.
Q: Your next goal?
A: To win round 3 of the Proleague. I'm so thankful to my fans who came all the way to Taejon (city where finals was located) to cheer for me. I have no words other than thank you.
|
I don't envy his situation... I never liked Iloveoov, but he is a great player and probably a nice guy. He stepped up a notch or to in my mind...

Oov is nice. He deserved the given title "Boxer's student"

Poor boxer TT Oov really gives him a lot of respect..

it also seems like he's passing on the torch to canata. that's some serious pressure my god.

It is sad that Boxer lose.
Big thx for translation uhjoo. And i have a question to U: How old are Boxer, oov and Canata ??
|
Nice interview - thanks yo!
Seems the two have a ton of respect for each which is cool. These leagues/tourney's obviously mean alot to these players. Look at Yellow after losing - sheesh. I'm sure that Oov will be around for awhile but I don't see boxer stepping aside yet either ;o
|
"It was to the point where I almost wanted to lose the final."
?????? I know he wants Boxer to win (if he was playing someone else), but does this mean you think he didn't play his hardest?
|
At least he shows respect for Boxer. Now I don't feel as angry as before.
|
Thanks uhjoo, you rock as usual. Would be nice to read Boxer's reaction as well. I guess he didn't (couldn't) answer to any post-game interview, so maybe tomorrow or in a few days.
Anyway, Oov sounds more and more like a very nice guy to me, in addition to being the best in the world, hands down. He has a true winner spirit and he's definitely on his way to become one of the best SC players ever. His tournament record is already ridiculously awesome... seriously...
|
Thanks for translation, uhjoo!
This is just super classy by Oov. Some very smart comments too... congrats to him. +_+
Such a hard situation to be in though... wow.
|
Thanks uhjoo!!!
And maybe now those fools who were bashing iloveoov before will see this and realize.
Oh and btw:
how to become a progamer:
he gave up on his own league, and practiced with me for 12 hours a day for 3 days, taking breaks only to eat.
:D
|
Don't think that canata sacrificed something, in fact, he gained even more, practicing with the mighty oov himself, 12 hours a day...
|
i dont like Oov but whatever i wish he lose proleague
|
NO, I think SKT1 deserve to win the proleague....
|
great work uhjoo, I love reading this kind of stuff Seems to me oov cared more about boxer winning than himself. Well, maybe not with 12 hour practice days -_-;;

They need to practice regardless. He said he didn't even use his practice anyway (subconscious playing). He still won. Just shows 1:
He's good.
2: he has manners
Him are BoxeR are both equally cool. ^^

BoxeR was the one who brought him into the team. BoxeR was one of the only people to believe in oov. BoxeR taught oov almost everything he knows. Very bittersweet.

Oov doesnt sound as happy as he should, and BoxeR cried?

I felt bad for oov because more than half the crowd just up and left the second boxer typed gg in game 5. No one was happy he won, and he can't even find joy in it either because he had to beat his friend.

Looks like OOv is destined to be unloved.
The Unheralded Champion.

well i like oov and boxer but i hoping that boxer would won because i wanted him so much to become the first one to hold 3 OGN championships, and seal his name as best bw player ever but still, he's the only one who made it to 5 finals
congrats Lim Yo Hwan, you deserve it!

OPINION SLASH MY VIEW ON THINGS: We have BoxeR, who is easily the starcraft equivalent of a boss fight. He became a household name; practically anyone who pays attention to the pro scene knows who he is and his exploits. Seems there was a small bump somewhere, and he tripped on a step. So he has to struggle a little now, in terms of league rankings, win/loss, whatever. You get the point. Hes made up this far once again. Winning this would show that hes still the amazing BoxeR he was years ago (not to say that he isnt now). Losing ... well, that could mean a lot of things, but I wont go into that.
END OPINION.

Poor oov, definitely sounds like the most possible bittersweet victory he can have. I would like to think though that Boxer looks back on it as not his loss, but as his student's victory.
Thanks for translation uhjoo

Considering how close the final was, I doubt it means much. Boxer lost two OSL when he was in his prime anyway.
|
Wow ... Iloveoov is a very passionate gamer. Mucho respect for this man. He's been my fave terran pro for a year already, but wow, I never expected personal personality to come out.
And btw uhjoo

Reading OOv's interview, I feel like he is a very nice person. Way to go, champ

competitive sport is cruel, however such scene warms my heart.

They gave us 5 great games, and hands down for boxer showing he can pull of insane strategies with such high stakes yet another time. oov was best this day though, and game nr1 and 3 he showed it coming back after a poor start again. IMO they're both winners.

thx for the translation.... can anyone tell me the prize for 1st 2nd and 3rd?

Thanks for the translation, uhjoo. Oov seems so sad that he beat Boxer... He should be happy.

Gratzi uhjoo. I'm with everyone when they say "you rock."
oov is so damn good.. my god. who would've thought oov would win? and all 5 games were great? too bad oov's win was so bittersweet.

He taught him the importance of certain things for Terran. He taught him how to micro as well as he does, and he taught him how to think while playing, moreso than he did before. What's so hard to understand?
I never hated OOv, and I didn't like him anymore after he beat Boxer, but after reading the interview, I have to give a lot of respect to him. It has to be so hard to beat Boxer in the finals like that. So sad. It's so sad that it couldn't have been a happy ending between team mates, like Yellow vs Reach.
To whoever asked if OOv wasn't playing his best: he was, but he was hoping that Boxer would out play him. (In reference to the comment about him wanting to lose) Of course, he couldn't just throw a game, though.
|
Who has the best defense in progaming? Iloveoov. Who has the best offence? In tvt you'd say Boxer. I don't think it's any coincidence... Boxer didn't teach Iloveoov how to play his style, he taught him how to defend against and defeat his style...
oops =p

the pregame conversations were actually sort of heartwarming... everyone by now knows boxer's famous quote about OOv before he burst onto the scene about how "this is a terran that will shake the world" (or something like that). well in the live pregame interviews, boxer basically recalled how he said this, and he said something to the order of "i'm grateful to him for making my prediction come true." it was massively touching
it was just as touching when the mc asked OOv if he thinks he will win, and he said, roughly translated, "i will win even if i have to force myself to do so." clearly a tribute to how torn he was to having to beat boxer, but also a tribute to his professional attitude. it was cool~
|
Nice interview, thanks for the update uhjoo~ I think in game 4 its possible that Boxer may have not had 50 minerals after all his scvs got killed by the wraith...(!!) so oov could have floated his buildings and got a draw..one of the commentators said this was a possibility..i dunno if they're gonna bother checking it o_O

No. Boxer had a meeting with his fans at pub after the game. According to one fan, he said there that he had more than 50 minerals.

never liked oov that much, just hope the ogn curse takes him out of the game next time.

competition is cruel, communism for all

Boxer cried? Hahaha... that means Oov has managed to beat NaDa, Yellow, Boxer (arguably the top 3 progamers) and made two of them cry (NaDa and Boxer).
Go Oov!!
|
Very cool, I agree that Boxer's early game was strong. Game 2, Boxer was just so awesome, but oov managed to come back. Really nice interview!

I think there is much truth in this statement. Does it mean Boxer will go downhill? The master-student relationship, oov has gained much from it, Boxer much less so.
|
i heard that the 4th game was exciting, anyone can describe some details?
|
has oov changed - i don't see his arrogance.
he says: I'm so sad. , I don't want to meet him in this kind of situation ever again
that's cute

OOv = truly champion OOv I like him, and i am sad, that there is no more people thinking in the same way.
|
thelucas: I can only agree, he is the best. I think he is without a doubt the strongest player ever in the history of Starcraft. I mean players are so much better nowdays then a couple of years back and Ilove is totally dominating despite how hard it is, it says quite alot... However he will sadly never be a very popular player since his style is not "flashy" and "goodlooking".
|
nice interview, he is indeed manner

Oov: The reason I was able to win is that I played at a subconscious level. I didn't play as I had prepared. I gave myself to the flow of the game.
omg, this is soo cool. The level of skill these guys have is unbelievable. Amazing games, amazing story. thnx Manifesto7 and uhjoo
|
I think boxer wanted to exit on a good note He's been planning to leave progaming, right? I wonder if he'll stop now, after this drama or still try to win something one last time before leaving.
|
i thought he's not leaving for still a while to come? ..;p
|
lol....boxer managed to achieved 2nd place in OGN after... .well...how many...4-5 years of his progaming life(?) is quite impressive.
|
Im guessing benzoic-acid was either banned or is inactive on teamliquid. This guy was in support of oov months back, and only a few of us were here to defend oov and benzoic. Im glad to see more people coming around, but hopefully not because of bandwagonning.
I think to clarify anyones conception about who will be the best in the future.. they wont be flashy or stylistic. You gotta be a moron to ignore that the game has been refinded into a machine of execution. It becomes more and more difficult for rare strategies or builds to accomplish wins. If anyone dethrowns OOv's dominance in the future, he will have to be even better with the keyboard.

did boxer really cried too bad
|
Umm, not to try to lead this thread off topic or anything, but where is Boxer's post game interview?
|
|
I really want to knwo why Boxer cried. Because he lost, and was disappointed, or was it becasue he was just touched by the situation. I would like to knwo more about it, and hope that there will be a post final interview with Boxer.
|
Boxer always looks like he's on the verge of tears. Like after game 4 of 2002 starleague when he lost to reach :/
|
I'd like to see things that happened after the last match like victory ceremony, did anybody record also this?
And btw., this iview really impressed me and made me change my opinion about oov, i think he's really nice guy saying this. Anyway, i hope BoxeR will make it in next OGN...
|
I think a lot of people wanted Boxer to win, partly because of his long history with Starcraft. After all, he was the one that raised the standard of gaming in Starcraft, bringing innovative ways in playing, such as certain kinds of build, control of units, etc. He is one of the few members that have been there since the beginning of progamers.
Personally, I was also hoping that Boxer would win. But in another light I can see how this would benefit Boxer a lot. He did set the record for entering the most semi-finals, beating Yellow, and he is one championship away from winning the most titles. I remember that Boxer said that this final would be as though he was fighting with himself, since he had taught iloveoov lots of things (but not all, as iloveoov was surprised by the build order in the fourth game that he had never seen before).
One interesting thing that I saw at FighterForum.com was their Weekly MVP. The way the MVP is decided is from the votes of the commentators (which make up a large portion of the vote) and from the votes of the people.
It is interesting how 60% of the commentators (the Starcraft experts, analyzers of the game) and 39% of the people voted for iloveoov. This is about half of the people that voted for him.
When Boxer beat Yellow in the semi-finals, 90% of the commentators and 72% of the people voted for him. Normally, when people get picked for MVP, it should be about this much difference.
I can see why only 60% commentators voted for iloveoov. It is because in the beginning of almost every match, he was being controlled by Boxer's mindgames. It was only because of Boxer's little but extremely crucial mistakes (such as not completely scouting a certain area) that turned the tide of the game.
From reading Boxer's message to his fans (536,000+ people registered) on the forum (cafe.daum.net/yohwanfan) posted a few hours ago, I take back what I said about Boxer having the least pressure, because of his experience in the finals. Boxer had to put up with more pressure than iloveoov in the finals, because he had to hold up all that he had achieved, in his position as the Emperor of Terran.
He also wrote on the forum how he could not concentrate during the game, regardless of how much he had planned for the game, ever since the moment he knew that he would be facing iloveoov in the finals. Though this sounds like an excuse for losing the game, I really believe what he said. To lose games 1 and 5 (maps Bitfrost III), both games of which the commentators predicted that Boxer would win if played, tells me that Boxer, though his initial start/build order was going as practiced, could not continue to carry on to the end because of the enormous amount of pressure.
But for now, I am confident that Boxer will forget the past achievements, and return to the one and only

But for now, I am confident that Boxer will forget the past achievements, and return to the one and only

So training with Boxer all week long doesn't make you learn things about 'strategy', 'timing' or 'micro'?
