Last years Gold and Bronze are playing, are you excited? Do you think it will be close?!?
meh.
Me neither. STX has been a disappointment since Round 5 of last year, and while STX beat KT the last time they met (in STX masters), it was partly by cheese and could easily have been stomped by Flash, if Calm's opening wouldn't have been so destructive. The beginning of the season looked rosy... until they encountered teams that weren't in horrible shape. Wemade was a horrible, horrible day for me, (to think I dedicated my 500th post to that!) and Oz, well... Samsung, MBC and ACE weren't exactly in shape when STX won, so there should be no way STX could win. Except...
KT Rolster isn't doing that hot either. While stats and Flash are still ballin, forGG, Action, and Violet have shown weakness against opponents they should have easily beaten. And that goes double for individual leagues. Remember fOrGG vs. Tyson game 3? Or the action vs. mind series? Or any recent Violet game? I'm calling slump, and KT fans should expect more from their idols.
And no, the irony of by.hero hasn't escaped me. Individual league wise, STX is looking better, but by far not good enough to beat Flash or Stats when it come to an ACE match. And damnit, Shuttle, what happened to you?
KT should win 4-1, but I'm hoping for a miracle here. This season has all sorts of surprises in store for us.
Been kind of disappointed in KT recently, but post championship slumps are pretty damned common. Hopefully we can kick into gear and finish out the season with a wining streak.
But Flash himself said that he is guaranteed to lose in Ace match lol, so even if it gets to Ace I don't think coaches will send him. Instead, it will probably be Stats! The kid looks very promising atm, and just secured his first Ace match victory. You can do it Stats!

I'd assume it's because Flash is easy to hate. Same thing happened to me, but my first favorite was Khan until I found out about Bisu's amazing awesomeness.

My guess is that it's gonna come down to an ace match, with Kal vs Flash and Kal goes 1 gate reaver vs Flash's 14CC. And then we'll see some of Kal's world famous reaver control. + Show Spoiler +
Seriously, why does the guy always use reavers when he's horrible at reaver control?

I have MBC (this) set up to go while I'm asleep; I will not be switching to OGN, afterwards. People are usually more able to get an OGN stream, so maybe someone else will hero that.

Appreciate it! Hope it doesn't mysteriously switch to Go again, lol.
Looking forward to this game. KT will go in as favourites, though so far PL has thrown up a few surprises.... Will be interested to see Kal's game in particular - he's in some decent form atm.

That was not Stats first ace match victory. :>
Admittedly, his last one was against the now SC2 playing Iron against MBC last season, but an ace victory is an ace victory!

Really, this is what everyone expected and it puts STX in a great position with Flash out of the way. Now every decent player we put out isn't going to be worried that it's Flash that's headed to the other booth. I'm pretty excited about our prospects overall.
These BW games seem so strange after playing / watching a lot of SC2. It's obvious he should always have some army ready for drops, he should have overlords spread, he should have way more Zerglings vs drop instead of Lurkers because of the micro, and that he should wait until the tank begins unsieging before attacking with Lurkers.
Why did that game seem just terrible and extremely low-level despite Modesty still being a decent pro-gamer?

I think flash caught on to what modesty was doing, which was heavy 2 hatch muta as usually flash skimps on turrets. Modesty had like 17 drones total or smth.
Flash managed to hold off and then shit hit the fan for modesty.

Because Flash was in a losing position but Modesty made the classic mistake of pissing away his advantage through overaggression.
It seems like complete failure, but come on: It's a ZvZ sniper playing against Flash. He burnt out his all-in thing and had no idea what to do. He probably practices his ZvT army control as much as I do.
Point is, it's not his role to win against Flash. He's got a more specific role than most progamers and we was way way outside of it here.

Modesty had control of Flash's barracks area for a reeeally long time. Hell, he even took some of them out. It was pretty obvious that Flash wasn't going to attack anytime soon. Modesty could've droned up then, but he didn't. Instead, he made mutas and suicided them all into those turrets...

It has nothing to do with aggression, it was stupidity and a total lack of gamesense, I believe. That's something a B- foreigner should do, I don't know how a progamer can make such a huge gamesense mistake. =S

He could have either droned up or switched to a round or two of lings. No raxes, no fac, and very few marines, but like 30 turrets. Instead modesty just stuck with mutas, because thats the zvz thing to do.

Flash played that really well. How many players would have the presence of mind to lift their Starport instead of stubbornly squeezing out one Valk and have the Starport die? It only looked as bad as it did because the Valk came out.
Yeah a better Zerg would have won, but in that mid-game position, Modesty would have beaten any other Terran. A ling runby would have helped no doubt, but in the replay they did show Flash scanning Modesty's bases even throughout the harass to get a sense of what Modesty was thinking.

The answer is pretty simple. If you haven't played SC1 in a while you tend to forget how ridiculously difficult that game was and how extremely convenient to play SC2 is.
I'd like to see how much stuff the SC2 "Pros" these days would get done if they had to manually move SCVs to the mineral line(s), click every single building to make units, etc. SC1 is so difficult, APM and multi-tasking demanding, that the average Progamer basically has only 1 or 2 areas which he excels at. And then there's people like Flash, who are just inhuman.

Frozean advancing his tank contain closer still. Drops at 1.5. fOrGG's dropships are far away, loses the expo.
fOrGG takes 6 oclock instead, and moves in forces from 6 as well, though Frozean already set up another tank wall there top stop them from advancing towards the middle.
fOrGG advances still from 6, with the cover of a lot of dropships.
fOrGG drops on the middle, taking out some tanks and securing some ground.

fOrGG pushing on the contain on his base with the help of his dropships, Frozean reinforcing his own wall as well. At the end neither one wins the encounter.
fOrGG drops at 1.5, taking out Frozean's new island expo.
Frozean counters by dropping on and clearing some of fOrGG's forces in the middle, as well as dropping on the expo at 7.5.
Never played a great game. Snatching the corners after getting contained was brilliant and kept him in the game for a while, as did impeccable army control around those central expos. It's winding down, but this has been a pretty sweet TvT. Action packed, a bit of a nailbiter, good decision making in a MU where decisive movements are exceedingly important...
Inner 3 is slowly getting pushed. It's 2 (3?) base to 1. Forgg doesn't really have a chance unless outer 9 gets taken out, and I don't think he has the units for that. He was pretty damned close to making a comeback though.
fOrGG's vultures find inner 6, go to work on the scvs there. They soon also find about outer 9 and attack the scvs there as well. Frozean reinforces outer 9 with a dropship.
fOrGG taking his last units in an attempt to drop on inner 6.
Edit: He's a protoss who beat baby in one of the sl prelims and has a 100% win rate in PL by virtue of his first televised win vs Saint, look it up. His macro is pretty impressive, has great unit composition in PvT too.

Uh, you guys do realize that the STX uniform is just a white shirt with a silver STX logo on it, right? How could that possibly be the ugliest anything?
Lol for the 5th set, i expected KT coach to send out HoeJJa to either snipe a defenseless Shuttle (it would be ezpz) or ace Kal, both would be deep scars in the 5th game, especially if you consider that there is Stats waiting for the 6th set, against remaining one of Kal or Shuttle.
But what did he do? He sent a no name protoss player to snipe a PvP sniper. When I read the name, I just rofl'd. I didn't even watch the game after that, took my network assessment, and when I was back I saw the score which was far from being a surprise..

@SuperArc: KT's Zerg line is the best Zerg line that can ever be when you face an STX with Kal, Shuttle and B-Teamers remaining. It's just Stats should play instead of Action and Action-HoeJJa duo is more than capable of sniping Shuttle-Kal duo. But you're damn right on sending Anyppi out.

Sometimes I have the impression that KTF is a very very serious team of badasses who are there to destroy everything, why SKT1 is much like a team for light-hearted people.
KT players always have serious faces and serious nickname (ultimate weapons, mafia zerg...) and they have black badass uniform.
In the other hand SKT has bunkie, ridiculous T-shirts, crazy cross-dressing/dancing and beautiful faces, and a funny zerg line.
I think the team's characteristics reflect on the fans : KT is for serious hard-core people, while SKT is for light-hearted, care-free people, especially for girls. That's why some people automatically hate/like SKT or KT.

They were down 3-1 at the time. Even if they had sent Stats out that round, they still needed 2 wins to take it to ACE. That left the likes of HoeJJa/Tempest/Suny/Anyppi. Anyppi has been doing well recently (not vP though), so it wasn't necessarily a bad call. I am sure if he would have won Stats would have gone up next (vs Kal).

That game right there is the reason Flash is the best. Being the best means winning the games where you have an advantage and every once in a while snatching a victory from the jaws of defeat. If you're good you win the games you should. If you're great you win the ones that shouldn't be possible. And Flash has a ton more like these.

This was an impressive show by Flash, but I think he really did throw away the game. Unless somehow a lack of minerals made it not viable, Modesty could've won with a hydra bust instead of sending those 5 lurkers.
On November 09 2010 11:56 revy wrote: Lol at people saying Modesty threw the game away. I think this is just one of those times where you shake your head and say.. that's just Flash.
I think not. When you succeed in taking out the raxes and fac, and your opponent can't produce an army (and only has a handful of marines), you either drone hard, knowing your opponent can't retaliate for a while or mass up lings and finish him off. You don't throw groups of mutas against walls of turrets for no real reason. Modesty had that game, and threw it away.
Flash has come back from insane situations before (fantasy, leta, jd), but I wouldn't credit him that much with this (though I am very happy he won). He was pretty helpless for most of the match, unable to mine successfully, losing scvs and all his unit production, and forced to throw down about 30 turrets. His 1 valk did help dispatch of the mutas (though the turrets did most of the work), and after that he just rebuilt his base, macro'd up his forces and crushed modesty. That part was all him, granted, but everything leading up to it was just bad on Modesty's part. Modesty just tried to play it like a ZvZ.
On November 09 2010 07:41 Ikonn wrote: But seriously though folks, why is Violet so inconsistent and how does ForGG lose to Frozen
A lack of fighting spirit/motivation/whatever, same thing the plagued STX near the end of last season. Probably a result of burnout if you ask me. A lot of teams have shifted around roles...Midas is playing awful right now while Mind seems to have gotten his groove back; Light and Sea aren't doing too hot right now while last season they were crazy good; Khan is literally carried by Brave and Turn while Jangbi is just getting worse; Perfectman seems to have replaced Hiya as that guy who manages to win games 50% of the time.
Its not like burnout is uncommon, Best and Bisu performed pretty badly last season. Of course they're pretty fresh after having basically a whole season of "slumping" (especially Best) so its not surprising that they're performing really hot right now.
Inhumanly insane come back from Flash.. For a moment I thought he would let JD have the come back of the day, but breaking that four base zerg with one dropship... is like the equivalent of robbing a bank with a toothpic. Modesty should lose his licence though: how can he not know that Flash was going to do a second drop? Maybe the worst reaction I've ever seen from a progamer.
