Canata beat Organ using strategic play to record the first win in Ro16.

Following is Q&A from Canata.


- You beat Organ by using strategic management.

▲ Organ won twice using this strategy. And I thought it would work if I used it against him.

- In your last 10, it's 8 wins and 2 losses.

▲ I have been falling down before so I thought it's time to get back up. My last 10 winning rate is 80% but I don't want to be satisfied with what I have and go further.

- Your recent games have been very speedy and entertaining.

▲ Many people said my games are entertaining so I feel good. I didn't want to pay too much attention but it was difficult not to take notice. So when I'm preparing for my strategies I have that in mind. My style hasn't changed too much, I think I am able to show my confidence in broadcasted games. 'Vertigo' (?) / 'turtle' (?) is from the reasons of perfection so I played cautiously. Now I have more confidence so my play is decisive.

- Secret for the new found confidence?

▲ My practice volume is backing me up. I practiced more than others and I've been occupied with gaming more than most. I gained a lot by watching Fantasy. All those things fused well.

- You took the inititive so you are one step closer to Ro8.

▲ In GOMTV MSL Season 3 Ro16, I was facing Xellos and leading 1:0 but lost the subsequent games. I will use that experience as a lesson so I don't get careless again.

- Tomorrow's OSL game is the all important Ro8 progression decider.

▲ My confidence is tops. I divided my practice sufficiently for MSL and OSL so I am confident for tomorrow as well. I am confident of getting to Ro8 in OSL.

- The team's qualification to Grand Final should have made your preparation for individual leagues easier.

▲ After confirmation of the qualification the team has helped immensely for individual leagues. Therefore I am preparing for them with ease. I feel at ease and there is a good atmosphere among teammates.

- Resolution for your next game.

▲ I have never reached Ro8 and in this season I shall reach Ro8 in both/either (?) leagues.

SKT1's "Emperor of Survivor Tournament" Canata played a memorable match today, defeating Hwaseung's BackHo in the fourth set.

The following is the interview with Canata.

- Your thoughts on your team defeating the number 1 ranked team, Hwaseung Oz and going on a 2-match winning streak?
▲ Today was an important match where, if we were to lose, it would be difficult for us to get into the Grand Finals. As today was an important match, the fact that I contributed to my team's overall win today is very meaningful.

- You have recorded your first Proleague win in 2 months.
▲ In Round 4, after being sent out against MBCGame, I wasn't sent out anymore. But since Round 5 is the most important period for us, as long as I perform well in Round 5, I believed that I would be able to make up for my previous slump, as well as increasing my chances of being sent out.

- Your decision to go for wraiths, as well as your scan can be said to be the key factors that helped you win today.
▲ As I practiced, I realised that Protoss going no-gate double nexus was a very tough build to deal with. As long as my Protoss enemy didn't go for that build, I had confidence in winning. I did not know what the opponent was going for, hence my early scan, and after scouting with my barracks, I realised that my opponent didn't get the backyard expo, which made me be more defensive. I also felt that there was something coming for me.

- How did you feel when you saw the two shuttles flying towards your base with your scan?
▲ His expo was late, he forwarded his units quite ahead and he also had two shuttles, so I scanned and checked. Somehow I felt that if there was an opening, he would attack me. I think the game ended when I defended against that attack.

- If you had lost, so would have your team.
▲ I personally enjoy playing the most when our team is ahead 2:1. We were behind but I didn't feel pressured. Other than my eye being too dry and hurting a bit, I was able to play my game without any burden.

- After your entry into the Round of 16 in the OSL, you seem to have gotten into a good shape.
▲ I think my games turn out better in summer. Is it because I was born in summer...? (laugh.) Up til now in my life as a progamer, I always performed badly in Winter and there will be a few days where it'll work out well, I'll start playing better and eventually hit my peak performance in Summer. Now that I've gained my momentum, I think it will last for a few months. I desire to practice hard and achieve something at this age.

- Your team will be facing Samsung Khan next.
▲ Samsung Khan is one of the top few teams, but I feel that our team will somehow win. We have Bisu, who is on a roll, as well as fantasy and Best.

- Any final words?
▲ I am grateful to my coaching staff who gave me an opportunity to play after such a long time, and I think that since I've met their expectations, I hope to play in the next match as well. Now is the most important moment of the season. I will work hard to make sure our team gets into the Grand Finals

YGCLAN : Hello, this is the YGClan interview team
Canata[YG] : Hello

YGCLAN : Yes, hello. It’s almost 1 year and 6 months since our last interview. Many people showed interest in you. Please introduce yourself briefly.
Canata[YG] : I’m Koh, In-kyu, Terran user from SKTelecomT1.
I’ll be 20 this year, and currently I live in Seoul, and originally I’m from Gwangju. Hobbies are… model figures -_-; watching animations -_-;

YGCLAN : How much have you spent on figures to date?
Canata[YG] : Not too much I just like looking at them.

YGCLAN : Recently your performance in the Proleague is strong and they say you’re always near the top in team ranking games. What’s the secret to your success?
Canata[YG] : I think it’s because we have three strong terrans on our team.

YGCLAN : Do you mean Mr. C, Mr. L, and Mr. J? (oov, boxer, midas)
Canata[YG] : Yes, Mr. L, Mr. C, Mr. J

YGCLAN : Do you usually ask those people for advice?
Canata[YG] : Sometimes I ask. Sometimes they watch my games and point out what I did wrong or need to improve.

YGCLAN : However, despite your strong pace, your performance in individual leagues is very poor. Why do you think this is so?
Canata[YG] : I’ve never thought that I was good…
Also briefly I had something like a phobia during Offline Tournaments… Although I’ve more or less overcome that.
Hmm… those are all excuses; it’s because my skill is poor.

YGCLAN : Mr. S (xellos) of our guild overcame his nervousness through traditional eastern medicine based on cow products. How did you overcome it?
Canata[YG] : It’s a secret…

YGCLAN : What kind of play style do you like?
Canata[YG] : I don’t really have a style I like.. I do a little bit of everything.

YGCLAN : Then what kind of style do you dislike playing?
Canata[YG] : I don’t like “good playing” style.

YGCLAN : The scariest type of style
Canata[YG] : Yes, I’m most scared of that style. I hate perfect style.

YGCLAN : And you also have the worst answering style for those who are reading this interview.
Canata[YG] : What kind of style do you think they’d want?
YGCLAN : Hmm… for example if I see that my opponent is playing 5 pool lings then I immediately want to jump off a bridge. They’d probably want something like this, no?
Canata[YG] : Why don’t we just let it go -_-;

YGCLAN : Do you like to drink?
Canata[YG] : I wouldn’t say I like it. I think it’s ok to drink every once in awhile.

YGCLAN : However, there is a rumor that you won the nation v nation drinking contest with the Chinese players on your team. You must have a high tolerance?
Canata[YG] : No, it’s that they have low tolerance.

YGCLAN : But there is also the very tragic incident where you once you said “I can drink like a fish!” and when we had a clan meeting, you “typed GG”(ran away). What do you think of that incident?
Canata[YG] : -_-; That day, before I went to the meeting I already had something to drink (gulp. That’s why I typed GG.

YGCLAN : Then do you have a promise for future YGclan meetings?
Canata[YG]: I will to go clan meetings and manage my image. I am a progamer after all -_-;;-_-;

YGCLAN : Many people are curious of what Canata means?
Canata[YG] : I’ve heard this question for many years… it’s Japanese. Many people ask if it means “sword” or if I just made it up, but it’s from a comic book that I was in love with as a youngster. I think girls around my age will know it -_-;; A cartoon named Da!Da!Da! which was explosively popular on Tooniverse (Korean cartoon channel).

YGCLAN : The name of the cartoon is peculiar.
Canata[YG] The main male character’s name is Canata

YGCLAN : What do you think about your performance during the WCG online preliminary when you used the id pinkyoov?
Canata[YG] At the time I didn’t even play that well but for some reason all my games turned out good -_-; I recall that I was in 1st place and kept that position for a long time…

YGCLAN : Did you lose your position because of abusers?
Canata[YG] There was some of that, but it’s also because senior progamers began to find their game.

YGCLAN : Why did you enroll in YG clan? Is it because you like pretty girls?
Canata[YG] : No… -_-;; It’s ALSO because I like pretty girls.

YGCLAN : After saying you wanted to enroll in YG clan, you waited 3 years and made many of our clan memvers shed tears. We are curious of the reason.
Canata[YG] : In truth, there are many reasons why I came to join YGclan…
First, because Koo, Hae-sun (Korean movie actress) … is also in YG (Note: YG entertainment agency, not YG clan)… -_- so if I joined YG I thought perhaps there would be more friendly feelings
Second, there isn’t much guild hopping among guild members.. and other guilds automatically accept you if you’re a progamer. But YG wasn’t like that. So I was more attracted…
And… to enroll in the “Dawn-time Squad”?

YGCLAN : How do you usually spend your salary?
Canata[YG] : Not where… but I just don’t use it at all -_-;

YGCLAN : Do your parents manage your money?
Canata[YG] : No… If the amount increased it would probably change… but for now I manage it myself.

YGCLAN : So you’re saying you don’t use it unless you’re buying model figures or games?
Canata[YG] : Yes, I hardly spend any money.

YGCLAN : Good for you. People should be tightfisted with their money. You’ve played in many broadcast games—what game do you remember best?
Canata[YG] : Because I haven’t been to a Starleague yet I can’t say there is any game I particularly remember… Rookie Battle was the only individual outdoors game I played, so that was probably the most memorable.

YGCLAN : I see. We will hope for you to make it to the Starleague and leave behind a memorable game.
Canata[YG] : I will do my best.

YGCLAN : You’re known as iloveoov’s pupil. If you’ve learned anything from him what would it be?
Canata[YG] : I’ve learned everything from the very basic to the very complex. All I have left is to show what I’ve learned~

YGCLAN : You said you’ll show it but have you learned well iloveoov’s bus driving technique? (Note: referring to rape --> in Korean rape is “gang gan”--> which is similar to “gwang gan”--> which means “tour”or "go on a trip" --> so bus driver = someone who takes someone on a long trip)
Canata[YG] : In my opinion that is the most advanced skill. So for now I am not yet at that level…

YGCLAN : His bus driving technique is very extraordinary. Rumors say that if there is even a road then it’s said he can easily drive even to Andromeda. Can you do that as well?
Canata[YG] : I’m worried that I might be the one taken to Andromeda… I will put in even more effort.

YGCLAN : Is there a progamer you respect?
Canata[YG] : Excluding my teammates, I respect NaDa and xellos.

YGCLAN : What about them do you respect.
Canata[YG] : Not any specific thing butI respect their general play style… Respect is slightly strange way of putting it -_-;; I like their style.

YGCLAN : You use the same room as Boxer. How does that feel?
Canata[YG] : It’s an honor. To be roommates with the best progamer… I’ll never forget it my entire life.

YGCLAN : What kind of mouse and mouseware do you use and what are your settings?
Canata[YG] : I use Logitech mini optical… mouseware just normal. Setting is neither very fast nor slow…

YGCLAN : Just out of curiosity it’s said you have a teammate who needs an incredible amount of time for settings—what is the average time for that person for setting? (referring to GoRush)
Canata[YG] : Hmm I’m not sure. I cannot answer a question that may hurt my teammate’s image…

YGCLAN : It is rumored that you have a great deal of respect for kkong[yg], what is the reason for that?
Canata[YG] : That person’s speaking ability is unspeakably… quick witted and quite high level

YGCLAN : What do you think about your looks?\
Canata[YG] : My parents gave birth and raised me -_-;; so it wouldn’t be right to have a problem with how I look. It wouldn’t be right to have a problem with how big one’s head is, for example. I’ve never had a problem with my appearance.

YGCLAN : People may want to hear that answer but the question wasn’t referring to that. I’ll change the question. You’ve replaced the all-powerful gagmarine[yg] as the king of cuteness and achieved the highest position, what do you feel about that?
Canata[YG] : I’ve never seen gagmarine[yg] in person but I’ve seen photos… And he’s very stylist… I wouldn’t dare to even imagine that I am cuter than he is…

YGCLAN : But YGclan’s female members in general believe “Canata’s cuteness is heaven-blessed” and “Gagmarine is a powerhouse but he must relinquish his spot.” How do you feel about that.
Canata[YG] : I oppose that… until I meet gagmarine[yg] in person…

YGCLAN : Does that mean that when you meet gagmarine[yg] in person you will have a cuteness face-off? Not to doubt your ability, but his cuteness is also not to be laughed at. YGCLAN : What was the reaction to your becoming a progamer by people around you?
Canata[YG] : At first many people made fun of me, saying if someone like you can become a pro everyone can. At school or at home everyone was negative. But I wanted to do it for sure… Because I’m so stubborn -_-; Now everyone supports me so I’m doing my best with strong pride~

YGCLAN : Hmm you’re obviously strong in self-confidence, how stylist. Do you have anything you would say to those who are dreaming to be progamers?
Canata[YG] : I quit school to be a progamer. But I don’t think that was a very good choice… Because people’s image of gaming is getting better, I don’t think quitting school is necessary… a high school diploma is vital… I wish they would go to school and game together with the same fervor.

YGCLAN : What kind of girls do you like?
Canata[YG] : The most important thing is that because I am a progamer, she should understand that I don’t have a lot of free time and can meet with her often. I think that’s the most important thing. As for looks.. -_-; I don’t have a specific preference

YGCLAN : Who will you pick as the next subject for an interview? Our guess is that you would pick Han Dong-wook (Casy), who has a lot in common with you…

Canata[YG] : This is the first time doing an interview like this… I hope I didn’t reflect badly (I did my best to be fun…). I really wanted to do this very seriously -_-; but each question was immensely stressful, so it is more nerveracking that an outdoors game. I interviewed while sweating profusely.
