Here's their brief article explaining the changes of the MSL survivor tournament format -
The MBC Survivor Tournament advancing format has changed.
In the upcoming MSL Survivor Tournament Season 1 that starts on the 16th, instead of completing one group in a day with 2 players advancing, 2 groups will play in a day with 2 players advancing.
From the 16th when the 1st set starts to the 30th with the 6th set, the winners who win the winners match of the 2 groups that play each day will qualify for the MSL. From May 7th 7th set to May 16th to the 12th set, the 2 winners of the final matches will advance to the MSL.
Original Korean Article: + Show Spoiler + MBC
Netizen replies to change: (this explains the change if you don't understand) + Show Spoiler + "???"
"Wtf... can you write so that we can understand?? So are you saying that instead of 2 players advancing from a group it's one player??" [t/n: this guy is wrong]
"number of people advancing is the same"
"So you're saying the winner of the winners match advances early while the 3 losers have to fight it out later to advance?"
"Isn't it obvious without having to write this up? The top player in the group advances first while the 3 remaining players will end up having to play in the losers/finals match later"
"Well it's the same thing in the end... basically you're just putting the losers match and finals match in one day. Changing it like this lets you know who you're going to be facing in the losers match and gives you more time to practice so the level of gameplay will improve - this is good for the players and fans - this is a good change"

The most likely answer is it's actually Yarnc.

Thanks.
They need to TLPDize Yarnc so we could just use that to avoid confusion.
|
weird format this time, we get to see 6 matches in 1 day instead of 5. but then 4 matches the second time around.
and losers gets 2 week to practice their Loser's match and Final's match.
Group 10 1st match Byzantium3 (T)fantasy T vs. (Z)ZergBong Z well, Zergbong's qualifying chance is half gone already
|
Hm, odd schedule. I prefer getting a group done in one day rather than spreading it out like that.
Hm...Byzantium 3 and Carthage 2. Interesting.

Not a fan of the new change. Prefer it all in one day.
|
I don't quite get why everyone's against the change. You get the same number of games and same number of qualifiers each day, but in theory the quality of the games should be higher (as was explained by the Netizens).
There is something to be said for surviving the gauntlet in one day, but overall I don't mind the change.
Also looking forward to a potential Flash versus Skyhigh and Effort versus JD!

Also looking forward to a potential Flash versus Skyhigh and Effort versus JD! And what's exciting about that? Ganzi who he's matched against and every single terran and protoss in his group has better chance to beat him.

Yes, but Effort has played JD twice in the last few months (in PL and then WL finals) and been schooled hard both times. As a fan of Effort, I'm interested in seeing if he's got what it takes to step up his game and put in a better fight. Yeah, he'll probably lose, but if he wins, that would be a huge statement.
All in all the CJ new generation (Effort, Skyhigh, Movie) each got rough groups, though they all have a pretty decent chance of advancing as the second seed. Effort will probably have to go through JD to get the first seed, Skyhigh will probably have to go through Flash, and Movie will have to beat By.Hero (who's the favorite against ANY Protoss out there) and then probably FBH (this one is more doable, haha).

They play on the same day, but not in the same group.

How do you get off assuming how intelligent someone is based on their "demeanor." This might be the weakest argument I've ever seen for why a given player won't succeed. All the people that flame IdrA and say he won't amount to anything purely because of being BM have more backing their comments than you do.

The MSL is the MBCgame Starleague. This is the MSL Survivor. They are different. The two who advance from each group in the Survivor tournament will join the players who were seeded from last MSL. Together, they will play the group stage of the MSL. It is that group stage which has the selection ceremony.
The MSL survivor does not have a group selection, the MSL group stage does.
I recommend that you do your research before mocking someone who is quite correct.

Predictions/hopefuls: + Show Spoiler +Group 1: Hope for Yarnc/Shine, but it'll probably be Yarnc/Canata. I like RorO too, so if he made it that'd be cool Group 2: Likely: free/HoeJJa. RuBy was taken off the PL roster, so I dunno how well he'll fare here. I kinda want soo to get through since he's a horrible SKT zerg Group 3: Hwasin/Much. I'd like Child to get through somehow too, since he's been bad forever and deserves to win something Group 4: Flash/sKyHigh for sure. underdog I'd like to win: Crazy-Hydra Group 5: I'd prefer Iris and either Shine[KaL]/815, but UpMagiC will probably mech his way through the group Group 6: HiyA/Sea. Maybe Tempest instead of one of them. Group 7: PianO/KaL. I'd like Peace to get in, but he probably won't. Fuck FrOzean. Group 8: Jaedong/EffOrt Group 9: Not the best players, but looks like an entertaining group. As long as Kwanro gets through, I'm happy. Group 10: I like everyone except for fantasy, but obviously he's expected to get through. Second will probably be Light. I'd like ZergBong to scratch his way out of this group since he's been playing foooooooorever and never been successful. Group 11: Movie/hero. I think fbh would be an entertaining alternative, but if Move and hero don't get through I'll be disappointed. Group 12: Bisu/Calm. Wouldn't mind SaiR getting through, but he probably won't.

If I end up being wrong then call me out on it. But at least a few Koreans I've talked to agree with me. He doesn't look like he's capable of developing a 'killer instinct'. Can you imagine seeing him in a Finals and saying "Man he looks incredibly focused and calm" or "Wow he looks like he's ready to rip his opponents to shreds"? I'm not saying it's 100% guaranteed he's not going to succeed. Just that it wouldn't be surprising if he didn't. I realize this isn't a "popular" thing to talk about, but screw group think.

Interesting time schedule. You know one person to advance and one person to drop out for the first 6 sets instead of at the end of the day for that group. Kind of puts a nice suspense on the guys with 1W and 1L.

Crazy Hydra is a funny name, it was the name of the progamer character in the (terrible) movie Jeni and Juno

Yes, I'm sure all people with killer instincts are of the utmost intelligence.
You're judging his ability to succeed by his appearance?
Tell me, does this face look like it's capable of a "killer instinct"?

latent you are stupid as fuck. idra purposely uses that face to make his opponents underestimate hyim....duh.

is it just me or does Juni play exclusively against Sea, rough luck for the kid
|
How exactly are the groups selected for this? I find it hard to believe that there only ended up being a single mirror MU due to luck.
