Afreeca is a streaming service that many koreans use, including some who stream their games on west/iccup. It used to be free for all to use, but afreeca started blocking foreigners, asking a fee for anyone outside of korea to connect.
If you haven't yet, check out Xan's thread here to get Afreeca up and running again.
This thread is to keep track of the various broadcasters, their ID's and channels. It can also be bumped if there's a current stream up that you think others might be interested in tuning in to.
You can always search for "스타 " to bring up a bunch of streams
NameClan [포스네임]김범성 = Force[Name] a really good zerg user nice thread btw, can't wait to watch Hero[Shield] and sepirose (if that's him) also, isn't FunFun GameTV like BABA/JoPD? could be some nice games on there
On March 20 2009 07:59 sixghost wrote: If you could, maybe list the race the person on the stream plays the most?
I haven't found a good zerg yet
AresTV is a good terran one, I think its Ares[sephirose], incontrol has posted a few replays of him here. He uses the name Ares[TSB] on iccup
I've only watched some of them for a couple of minutes, so I'm not sure. I'll try to make a note of it if I can. Some of them I only watch 1 or 2 games, so idk if they're offracing or something either.

is nameclan the broadcaster id, or is it something different?
I still can't get it to work. I download the afreeca installer, the proxies and then try to install it and it doesnt work, so i guess i have to do stuff before that.. don't know what though.. There's the registrationpage.. how do i even get to that page, the installer doesnt ask for any registration

yeah its just that when i run proxy it asks me to link to afreeca.exe so i need afreeca, and when i install it it doesn't work.. anyway ima go through the whole guide i waas abit lazy, ill ask for questions if i still can't get it working afterwords
Ok so i've followed the guide. I got through all pictures except 8 and 9. First of all, the picture on 8 doesn't appear on my screen once I've done everything to that point. And picture 9 doesn't exist, I can only see 8 pictures. Anyone had this problem?
Anyway i start guessing myself forward and somehow gets the searchfunction up and type "LIVE" and i can see those channels. I click on them and the AfreecaPlayer starts. However it doesn't look like the one in picture 8. When i click on a channel, lets say "stluv" a popup pops up telling me things in korean and i can klick on two boxes.
Here is a picture of it. Can anyone help me from here? + Show Spoiler +

I searched for nameclan and turned up nothing, maybe he just wasnt broadcasting at the moment.
Also has anyone found a reliable proxy site? I've found an ok one, but the proxy tends to drop alot intermitently, so it results in me being booted off the stream when I'm trying to open the player quite often.

Are you using only proxifier or proxifier & tor? I've found it's so much easier if you use TOR.

I'm just using Proxifier and Socks5 proxies, I tried using ToR for an hour and just gave up on using it.

Since finding socks/http proxies can be a pain in the ass, I recommend the following way to connect to afreeca (most info taken from myp2pforum.eu):
1. Follow this link to download the Vidalia bundle, and just install TOR.
2. Go to Go to C:\Documents and Settings\Your Account Name\Application Data\Tor and open torcc in a text editor like notepad or wordpad. Delete everything. All of it. Now paste in the following:
That's it. "eva" is the tor router you're connecting through, and it's been up for a while so you should be good with that one for now. If it goes down, head over to https://torstat.xenobite.eu/ and select KR from the dropdown list. It will give you a list of routers you can try. You need one that has a name, is running and hopefully fast/stable. The site keeps track of all that stuff for you though, so you just need to pick a good one from the list. You can head over there now and see why eva is a good server if you want to know what you need to look for.
4. Run Proxifier. Go to "Proxy Settings" add SOCKS5 server 127.0.0.1 and port 9050. Then go to "Proxification rules" and add: Afreecaplayer.exe, ip: 222.233.54.57, port 3456. Also, select "Proxify only the following + manual proxy", and make sure that afreeca is the only program with a check next to it.
Go to afreeca.com (preferably in IE since the site seems to have trouble in FF) and hit
that button to launch the afreeca player.
If you've done this right, you don't even need an account / to be logged in.
GL
Edit:
A couple of notes: TOR can be temperamental sometimes. When it opens, it should "We now have enough directory information to build circuits" and then " Tor has successfully opened a circuit. Client functionality is working." Sometimes it will say it has found some information but not enough, if that happens let it keep working for a couple of minutes, usually it gets more info and works. If you get any [WARN] messages, something might be wrong with the server or your config. If you've followed all the steps and you still get warn messages from the server, go back to C:\Documents and Settings\Your Account Name\Application Data\Tor and delete all the files there except torcc. TOR creates cache files there that you don't need and I have found that they sometimes mess it up.
I'm not really an expert on this, most of what I know is from messing around with it for about an hour a few days ago. I'll try to help you emulate what I did to get it working, but outside that I don't know if I'll be much help.
Okay, so I got the player to work, but I can't open any channels. Whenever I try to it just redirects my browser to the Afreeca home page.
and how do you guys search for these korean players playing starcraft? the only way I can attempt to join a channel is to click on one from the home page.

if it's directing you to the "abroad" page it means you probably havent proxied right. search for " 스타 " to bring up some SC channels.
EDIT: I got the proxy working and everything else working, and now when I click the stream the program just freezes for some reason and I have no idea why.. the stream DOES NOT start then freezes; nothing starts at all and it just pauses and I wait 10 minutes and it does absolutely nothing. Does any1 else has this problem or could any1 help?
If you search for a particular stream and it doesnt come up, it means that that person is not streaming at the moment. try to keep the Korean time in mind when looking for the streams as it is probably very early in the morning in korea when you are trying to look at the streams.
Ghoflz: BeggarTerran was afk this morning your stream wasnt frozen =), he often leaves his computer on and then comes back later to play.
One tip for you guys: instead of searching for " 스타 ", click on the blue button at the top below the search bar that says "게임TV" (Game TV) then, on the left hand side u will see a little gameTV picture and then first link with the bullet will be "스타" click that link and it will bring up all of the starcraft streams that are currently online.
Also another tip: you will see 2 white dropdown boxes right underneath the search bar. The dropdown boxes organizes the search results. Ignore the first box. The second box: The first choice organizes by the latest stream that came online, but the 2nd one (which i use more often) organizes it by how many people are watching the stream. usually the better streams have more people so use this second choice after clicking the "스타" link that i mentioned above^^
Last tip: USE INTERNET EXPLORER! koreans do not use ANY other browser so everything korean internet related is made for internet explorer, so you may run into problems if you use firefox or chrome.
Also recently, there is a afreeca starleague going on at 8:30pm korea time. There are a few semi pro gamers and i think 1 or 2 progamers so its worth watching and its a lot of fun. but if you really want to watch it you must go in there a little early because it fills up very fast.
anyways good luck and feel free to ask me any questions!

add dreamsan to the list hes an A terran and i just watching him destroying terror[fou] Edit: AKA: Sumadream Second edit: omg he destroy: terror, xox, hell, and another guy who cant remember all from fou clan, the event its BJ vs FOU i guess it mean casters vs fou
I watched quite a bit of sumadream the other day, and it was pretty interesting. It seemed that a lot of the time he was using outdated or sub-optimal builds, but still winning due to amazing mechanics.
For instance, one TvZ he went 2rax before expo, but didn't scout until very late and didn't build all that many early marines. Eventually muta harass hit, but his turret timing was also late, and his placement was pretty bad so he lost quite a lot. However, none of that mattered, as after the mutas could no longer do damage he proceeded to roll over the zerg with perfect control and dropship play.
Brood, I followed your guide, and was able to get to this point. I am not sure what this means, I tried to open beggarterrans stream, and this popped up. I assume it has to do with me not being logged in?
Same thing happens to me every time. I have tried every method and nothing works.
EDIT: I tried downloading that patch and extracting it to the proxifier folder but when I do so it says it is either already updated or it is invalid.
EDIT2: I get tor + proxifier working it seems (still no update patch). I don't log in on afreeca but open the player. The traffic signal from proxifier looks like it is working. I then try to go to a stream and it asks me to log in. I log in with the ID i made a long time ago and boom i'm GG'ed epic fail sends me back out to foreigner land.
This is pissing me off. I have spent about 3-4 hours on this and normally I would just quit and give up but its just out of principle at this point that I need to figure this is out. I'm going to reinstall proxifier and try to install the patch. If that doesn't work I am all out of ideas..

That means your proxy isn't working.
Try switching it to 'process all' in proxification rules, and unchecking afreecaplayer.exe. Then go to google.com. If it redirects you to google.co.kr, the proxy is working, and there must be a problem somewhere else in your settings.

There's either a problem with your settings in proxifier, or a problem in Tor.
Make sure Tor is open, and that it says something like "enough directory information, opened circuit".
If that's already working, just switch the proxy rules to 'process all' and see if the stream works then. If it works after doing this, you did something wrong in the proxy rules menu.
On March 22 2009 09:15 LostDevil wrote: Well i finally got it to work temporarily for the first time. However, it is lagging. If i close proxifier will it still work ?
It only checks your IP when you first launch the stream, so you can switch the proxy off once you start. For some streams it barely makes a difference tho, make sure to check the quality of the video before you join a stream, some of them are like 2000k, which my connection cant handle at all.

most of the people that stream on afreeca are very nice. although many of them dont know much english at all. if you ask them questions in korean about build orders or anything about starcraft they usually answer them 90% of the time. also if you like the streams please press the button on the bottom right of the screen with the star.

No. They are simply broadcasting their matches through First person view. they are not recording them and uploading them at all.
You should use broods method that he explained 2 pages back. I was having trouble as well, until I fiddled around with the settings. (I ended up using sock4 instead of sock5)
EDIT: You should really get it working. I watched beggarterran play 13 games yesterday in the span of 3 hours, and the last game was a DRAW! 2 lifted off buildings vs 1 shuttle and 2 dragoons. I shut it off after that, because beggarterran obviously had plans to wait the game out even if it took all night lol. Also saw him get disc hacked hahaha, then helped him report it in the forum. I haven't tried it yet (been watching restreams) but there is a program linked to in that thread (Bluestacks) that is supposed to let your computer run the free mobile afreeca app. Or you can get the mobile afreeca app yourself as instructed in the guide.

Thanks.
Cobaltblu and Kororo (when he isn't actually playing) have also been doing restreams lately.
movie just played/is playing a few rounds of equivalent of obs lovely space (track is different) with a lot of users from Jat, which is the best fucking ums map ever.
and he boss moded it up. movie's even more awesome now. it's so sad though that he didn't get to just continue playing bw though TT.
First off, go to the website afreeca.com. Making an account is recommended, but not necessary. Click on the circle highlighted to launch the web player. If this is your first time, say yes to downloading the program/plugin. During the installation, you can uncheck everything since spam is bad.
The image should be self-explanatory You can customize it by clicking on the top rightmost button, which I forgot to highlight. That, in itself, should be self-explanatory too.
First, click on the highlighted button, 게임. Once selected, it should roll down even more options. You want to click on the one I have highlighted, 스타. And there we go, all the Starcraft streams.
Find the search bar, highlighted in the picture. With this method, you can be more specific with your search. Type in whatever. In this case, I plugged in Sonic's Afreeca ID "sogoodtt". Some other popular streams are "h78rt" (Killer) "aiseiteru99" (Hiya) "cksgmldbs" (Mong), etc etc. If you typed it in correctly and they're online, you should get a result like this. Notice how of the 3 results, there's one w/ a different view count. That's a "Relay Room", which is created when a broadcaster's room is full. You can use this search method to find a broadcaster's relay room when their main room is full.
So you wanna watch the broadcast, but you don't know what to click. There are three different things you can click Clicking on the image to the left will initiate the broadcast. Once you click on it, the Broadcast window should go black and start loading. Ads need to load before you can watch a stream, and it can take a looooooooooong time to load. Make sure you have ad-block turned off.
The two buttons highlighted on the bottom do two different things. The left button will take you to the BJ's home page. The right button will give you 3 more options: -Top button is "Pop-up" which spawns another Afreeca player, with less options. -Second button is PIP, which spawns another broadcast within the broadcast you are already watching. Broadcastception -Third button is "Mini-Mode", which is pretty much the same thing as the pop-up player ..
5. The Broadcast itself - Supporting the Broadcaster via "Recommend" + Show Spoiler +
I feel this particular tidbit deserves a section by itself, because this is the best way one can support. The "Recommend" button is the one highlighted in the picture. You can give it to each BJ once a day. If your popup blocker is off, then it will pop up a window giving you the option to post on the broadcaster's msg board (you can't anyways lol).
Doing this on a regular basis will increase the broadcaster's ranking, and exposure. If you want to support, but don't have money to give, this is the best way to do it.
There are numbers top-left of each thing that I will explain 1 - Logout 2 - Toggles chat box on and off 3 - Toggles Broadcast list on and off 4 - Title of the broadcast 5 - BJ's Afreeca ID 6 - Information about the Broadcast, comes up if you move your mouse over the stream. In the order, its: -Views by PC, Mobile, Relay Room, and total viewers that watched since it started. -Then it the 2000k is the quality. -Then it shows the resolution of the Broadcast. -And finally, it shows which date the broadcast was started, and for how long it's been running 7 - Aspect ratio options 8 - Stop player 9 - Sound Control 10 - Give Balloons (money required) 11 - Give Stickers (Money required) 12 - Give Recommend (Boosts ranking, no money required) 13 - Add to bookmarks/favorites 14 - Previously seen Broadcast history 15 - Users who are viewer, sorted by ID and then their nickname 16 - Chat room 17 - chat box
On the "Broadcast List" box, you notice there's a second tab "즐겨찾기" That's your bookmarks/favorites list It'll show all your favorites that are online, and the offline ones too. The button by the Refresh button top right, "목록편집" will toggle the ability to delete streams from your favorites. To delete, click on the grey circle w/ an x in it on the top right of the stream preview image.
Afreeca is a P2P based connection system, instead of a server-based. The more viewers there are, the more chatting there's going on, the further away you are from Korea, the laggier your stream is gonna be. Unless you have a fucken boss internet, lag will be unavoidable w/ the more popular streams.
Prime time Afreeca is night-late night at Korea. There are some BJs who leave a restream on 24/7 or play/stream at weird hours, but most of them don't stream until that time.
If you wanna chat and stuff, you have to verify yourself by sending an ID to Afreeca. I haven't bothered doing this myself, so I don't know all the details
This is what you should see when you first launch it. The icon on the left is for Broadcasting, and the icon on the right is for watching Broadcasts. For the purposes of this guy, just select the right one.
The two buttons highlighted to the right do two different things. The top button will take you to the BJ's home page. The bottom button will give you 3 more options: -Top button is "Pop-up" which spawns another Afreeca player, with less options.
You can delete some off your list by pressing the small circle X on the top left of each image.

Is afreeca no longer working for anyone else? Keeps coming up with a message everytime I want to watch a stream that takes me to some place I have to pay.
it's working just fine, but when i updated the silverlight it keeps crashing for me and ads not playing, freeze, black screen, Unknown error msg pop out.. wierd. i tryed unistall, install, new old version, other browsers... and barely works on me now, need to wait like 3 min for ads to load and stream to start...

This is what happens for me. It's like 50/50 whether the ads eventually finish or not before an error message comes up, and I almost always have to wait at least 3-5 minutes.
Has anyone ever noticed when using Afreeca on a mobile device (ie. android or iphone) that the list of players are greatly diminished. It seems like I only get about half of the players on that list streaming on my mobile device.

Streamers have to pay Afreeca via stickers to get their stream accessible via mobile I believe. Not every streamer has a steady source of Balloons/Stickers, so its understandable why only a certain number do it
IE works best ofc since its a Korean software thing, and Korean software/websites are designed for IE and aren't too friendly w/ other browsers (esp. firefox). I use chrome though, and it works fine

The message you are getting is the message telling you that it is currently advertisement time. You just simply have to wait sometimes the ads dont load for a long time and you just get a black screen for a while. but if you click on the button on the message that says its ad time it takes you to the quick view purchase page which is a service that allows you to A) skip ads B) enter FULL rooms and C)have better connection? they claim you will buffer less
