Fantasy OSL Contest
Winter 09
As if you haven’t gotten enough Fantasy options… here is the Fantasy OSL. I am trying to run each of these Fantasy leagues a little differently, both in team structure/creation and in point scoring. Though it’s still the same concept of whose chosen team of Starcraft players will do best in the upcoming OSL.
Contest Rules:
1. Each team will consist of five different players.
2. You can spend no more than 10 points creating your team. You may spend less. (explained below)
3. Enter the contest using the Automated Entry link at the bottom of this post to submit your team. Please do NOT PM me your team
4. The deadline for entries Wed Dec 17 at 1400 KST (Tuesday night at midnight EST).
5. Each person only gets one entry.
6. Failure to follow any of these rules may result in disqualification.
There is no restriction of one player of each race to a team. Below is a list of players including those who have made it to the Round of 36 and the seeds into the next OSL. Each listed player has a point value. You must spend that many points to place that player on your team. You may not exceed 10 points or your team will be disqualified. Their point values are based upon their performance in the previous OSL season and how far they still have to go until potentially reaching the Round of 16. Players who have never before gotten past the OGN Preliminaries cost zero points to be placed on your team.
If you spend less than 10 points creating your team, your team will automatically start with the amount of points you didn’t spend. For example, if you only spend 7 points creating your team, you already have 3 points. If you spend 0 points, you start with already having 10 points to your total score. Hopefully this creates a little more team variance since there are much less players t choose from than the Fantasy MSL, but there are still some players that will probably find their way onto a majority of the teams.

Scoring:
A player scores points based upon his performance in the OSL. The point scoring is as follows:
Every game win from the Round of 16 onward*: 1 point
Making it to the Round of 16: 1 point
Making it to the Quarterfinals: 1 point
Making it to the Semifinals: 1 point
Making it to the Finals: 1 point
OSL Champion: 1 point
*Wins in Tiebreaker rounds will not be counted for points.
If you have any questions, please ask and I will get to them as soon as I can.
A big thanks to SonuvBob for providing the automated entry form for you all which makes things much easier and will save me a bit of time. The entry form enforces all of the above rules. If at any time you wish to edit your team, just go back to the entry form, enter in a new team, and it will replace the previous team you submitted.

Very true, and with the OSL system, your team could be already fucked at the start (imagine having 3 players in the same group and only one can advance).

Right, but this also goes for the rest of the tournament as well. Theres no way you can know how the group drawing for ro16 is going to be, and how the eventual ro8 bracket is going to look.
Waiting for the ODT bracket is smart, but you're still dependant of alot of luck

also, most people just go with there favorite players anyway. Or a theme (mine is KTF+1 and I see some all zergs)

Instead of going the route I took in fantasy PL of picking a lot of my favorite players, I'm going another route of taking a whole bunch of players I have little to no attachment to. In fantasy PL my team is doing horrible and it's even worse because they are some of my favorite players, making me the saddest panda in the land. At least this way when my fantasy team sucks it up, my favorite players might actually do good.

Mainly reasons why pick team so early is because (at least for me):
- I have some team submitted, better than having none. Why? This leads that because this fantasy Batoo OSL was launched before groups been revealed, I fear I forgot to make team after lineups been made (thinking I already did, because thread is old.).
- You can still edit your team later on

The champion also is getting 3 points for winning three games in the finals, so it's like 4 points for being the champion. The runner up gets at most 2 points, and that's only if it goes to game 5.

Kal does pretty well in individual leagues and I wouldn't be surprised if he made it to RO16/RO8
BeSt is going to win a starleague, this season, or next. Why not the OSL?
Leta is an amazing player and should do better this season than last time.

Very high I'm guessing. Bisu and Flash are solid players at a good value, Jaedong is better than his stats suggest, and Kal is a protoss in the protoss era. Add leta, who is a freebee proleague monster and you get the best team ever! I'm surprised more people didn't pick this team.

^I get it, you got your 10 points just by not using them. I don't think that has much to do with my comment, though, and I can't even figure out what Hittegod's comment meant. W/e, doesn't matter.
I wish I had checked the brackets before making my team, anyway, kind of sucks to have two players in one bracket before the Ro16 even starts. My time on the leaderboard shall be brief.

I don't have him on my team, but how are things going to work out for people who picked BackHo? Will they be able to pick a new player of the same value? Or will they just be out of luck?

They will not be able to pick a new player as allowing them to do that would be unfair since they already know which players have advanced to the Round of 16, so in a sense they are out of luck.
However, I will award BackHo as scoring one point. He did qualify for the Round of 16, so I will give him a point for that, but he will not be playing any games there so he will not be able to recieve any additional points.
This solution seems to make the most sense and I would say is generally fair to all participants (or as fair as it can be).

semi, maybe you could give the option of trading BackHo for one of the wildcard players costing 2 or less. It'd be a bad idea to trade the certain 1 pt for someone who'd have to go through Mind and Bisu, but it'd be an option at least. :p

I thought about that, but then there are people who had BackHo and may already have those 2-point picks on their team. I don't know how many teams this would be, since I'm at work and my spreadsheet is at home. But someone who picked BackHo and already has Bisu/Mind (or one of the other wildcard favorites) could potentially be hurt more than they are helped by offering such trades.
I'll have a look at the roster sheet when I get home and possibly re-evaluate.

So hasuprotoss doesn't have much of a shot with just Leta and by.hero left alive, while Dknight and MasterReY look to be the favorites (both have Flash Leta Kal Luxury Jaedong, siiiick).

I hate to note this, but I can't help but see that Corinthos and nevake, two amazing members of the community, are tied for last place on that list! Seriously though, 1 point and 1 player left is probably harder to have picked at this point than most other combinations. Props for that, at least!
It's also interesting that the three 1-point players I chose made it through, while the two 2-point players didn't. Though, those players now play each other in the wildcard matches: Bisu vs Sea.

Lol, I got pretty lucky with the Leta pick. I only picked him because he was 0 points without any knowledge about how kick ass he's going to become =).
Hopefully Bisu makes it out of the wildcard!

how the fuck can someone have 12 points? one point is awarded for qualifying for the round of 16 which means there's a maximum point total of 5? how does someone get 12
edit: ok, i just saw that thing that said you get points based on your team costing less than 10 points. hasuprotoss's team cost 0 points?

If you spend less than 10 points creating your team, your team will automatically start with the amount of points you didn’t spend. For example, if you only spend 7 points creating your team, you already have 3 points. If you spend 0 points, you start with already having 10 points to your total score. Hopefully this creates a little more team variance since there are much less players t choose from than the Fantasy MSL, but there are still some players that will probably find their way onto a majority of the teams.

1 point for making round of 16
1 point in round of 16 (1-2 score, no points for tiebreaker rounds)
1 point for making quarters
2 points for winning quarters
1 point for making semis
3 points for winning semis
1 point for making it to the final
3 points winning the final
1 point again for winning the final

the MOST a player could generate while winning the OSL is 16 points
1 point for making ro16
3 points in ro16 (3-0 score)
1 point for making quarterfinal
2 points for winning quarterfinal
