Hi everyone. As some of you may know, Dreamhack has decided to stop hosting their brood war tournament, which means that the foreign scene is now one big offline event shorter.
Emerald (who wrote what i'm about to post) has made a post about this where he explains the situation and he's reaching out to the SC/BW community for help. He asked me to post it here because he can't access his tl account or whatever.
"Last week we got the information that Starcraft has been removed from the Dreamhack tournaments. This event is the major event for every swedish Starcraft player and also several foreigners travel across Europe to take part of this huge and great experience.
As I do have contact with Martin Öjes at Dreamhack i have decided to organize a name-list asking them to please add Starcraft back to the Dreamhack tournaments. The text goes like this:
Starcraft is the best and most entertaining E-sports game after Counter-strike (some might argue about this and say Starcraft is THE most enjoyable game to watch.) With Starcraft 2 waiting around the corner the hype around Starcraft is now bigger than for years.
By putting our name to this list we disagree with your decision to remove Starcraft from this winter edition of Dreamhack. We demand a change - We demand Starcraft to be added back to the selected pool of games. We can compromise, lower the prize money if you so wish, only give prize money to 1st place. Do what you need to do, but PLEASE ADD STARCRAFT BACK!!!
The Starcraft community is so so strong when it comes to supporting the scene. Here in Sweden we already lost our hopes of ever getting a WCG qualifier as this years supposed one got canceled. We NEED Dreamhack!!! Please, if you ever thought about giving your vote for a good cause, this is the time to do it. Let's overwhelm Dreamhack with thousands of names.
NAME LIST IS HERE: http://www.namninsamling.se/index.php?sida=2&nid=2556
Sign to the right: Namn = Name Stad/Ort = Town/Country Then hit the orange button below.
I also ask everybody to spred the link to this forum thread to everybody you know... spam everybody in your msn list.
Help us to get Dreamhack back! "
EDIT: Not sure if this is supposed to be in the Brood War forum or in the Tournament section, I guess the mods can move it if they want to.

Done, feels silly to remove SC from dreamhack just before SC2 is about to be released.. Why not take advantage of the hype?
|
Signed. I hope we get alot of help from TL, because it looks like we will need it.
|
signed it, hope they decide to ad SC back.
|
is starcraft going extinct or what...T.T?
and with sc2 just around the corner?

I'm sort of pessimistic about this working , althougH I feel like it is a stupid decision to remove SC from Dreamhack ... it seems like SC at Dreamhack has been getting more popular, with bigger and better players coming each season, and now they decide to remove it? seems like the best time to remove it would have been 2 years ago when random newbs were playing it and only like 1-2 good players O_O!
|
Signed, been there 6 times and going this winters event aswell, really hope that they reconsider.
|
Signed it. Hope this works, though petitions like this rarely do.

Voted.
Btw wtf?? SCII is almost there and they remove SC from their competition?? Sounds weird... but bleh...
|
Starcraft has never been big in europe and especially not in sweden, which blows my mind considering how good and competitive the game is..I really hope things change with SC2 beacuse im getting sick of following the extremely predictable and boring CS 1.6 scene.

It really sucks that they canceled the tournament just in this edition, since Cloud and I had plans to go.

An e-signing for a just real life cause!
|
|
Signed. I don't much like attending these events myself but I still believe it's very important that BW is among the games played especially since so many players travel from other european countries to attend.
|
signed, though not really sure what it is. if TL supports, I do.

Yeah around 2000-2003 sweden was like ranked #1 after Korea T_T

If this doesn't work out, let's try getting Wcg to replace the Sc:Bw at DH. Definitly worth a try.
|
Hehe I just saw that the little brother of a highschool friend signed. His brother played some sc on LAN with me and my friends in the 90s. The little brother was like 9-10years old but funny since he acted like ~18, really cool that he seems to be playing starcraft too. It's a small world.

done, for what frozen arbiter said, absolute truth for sure, capitalize on the sc market right before sc2 come out, will be huge profit margin
|
Signed. Removing SC from any tournament is suicide...
|
Signed. (I've even participated in the tourney once) and Dreamhack is really a awesome event!

1199 sugnatures. Keep going!

They should call dream hack, counter hack or world of warhack instead since thats seemingly what everyone plays there anyway.
Nonetheless, signed.

I hope the news that Blizzard will be on location and showcase StarCraft II will make you guys feel better.
Thank you for your input and much respected

haha, maybe this will work for other tournaments

I just dont understand dropping the game 1-2 years before its sequel hits the shelves. This is just bad decision making on Dreamhacks part.
|
Oh well its not like its the end of the world. Dreamhack will be fine.
