Thank god. Being number 1 on the ladder and being a practice partner for SSL contenders is nice and all, but we have all been waiting for a full come back. It's been way too long
On October 19 2024 19:30 GTR wrote: would be funny if he just said "hello" and turned off the stream immediately afterwards
not impossible, this post says nothing about a comeback. of course, just "hello" is extremely unlikely, but it may or may not be related to gaming, right?
Knowing Korean culture. He will start by apologizing about being a crypto god. Fall to his knees. Say sorry few more times and move on. The chat will call him Coinjwa or Coingod for a few months lol .
Yep that's exactly what he's gonna do. Probably will shed a few tears as well, be it fake or real. That's what they (the others caught in the scandal) all did.
But to be honest I feel like Flash is such a coward in this whole situation. First he tried to shift the responsibility to his mother. Then he already had the military time to soften the blow. But it still takes him almost another 2 years with god know how many streamers already paving the way for him to come back.
Among the ones caught, Sea should be commended for bravely starting the comeback series and providing a template for them all by himself lmao.
Let's see how the Korean community responds, and what he has to say. He definitely needs to apologize and explain the situation in a favorable light.
Also weird to see the foreign community cheering on someone who essentially scammed their fans. I.e., promoting a crypto without revealing you had ties to it. Greedy and deceitful but i guess if u weren't the ones to lose money it's okay!
Let's look at this comparatively:
Life, lost games on purpose, took money from sport betters and fans who believed in him. Shunned.
Flash, promoted a shitcoin, took money from fans who listened to him and invested into the coin. YAY HE'S BACK!
(If there is anything I'm getting wrong I'm open to my opinion being changed as long as there are sources. But to me it really seems the foreign community has no moral standards because the scamming didn't effect them therefore they are able to look past it. If you lost $500, $1k, $5k would your opinion be different?)

I can only speak for myself of course: I'm a big FlaSh fan for 15 years now, but in the end, all korean players are not 'real people' to me in the sense that I do not know them at all, can't speak their language, have no connection to them whatsoever due to that barrier etc. The only thing I know about them is them playing BW.
So when they do something outside of the game, I have no opinion about that since I can't check anything about their character, what they were doing and so on. The only exception I can make is when they do something truely horrific and they get sentenced for that (be it match fixing or other stuff that actually gets you in trouble with the authorities). Because there I have at least some objective measurement to go by.

The coin never went live, everyone who invested got their money back. Nobody lost a single cent from this whole thing.
The comparison with Life is also pretty weak. Life is banned from all and any SC2 competition. It does not matter if people would want him back or not, there is no come back path for him. Flash didn't get banned from anything. Life was also legally prosecuted, Flash was not.
10 minute video is all you had to watch before posting, funny how you are asking for sources while providing none:
Every thread about Flash ends up being about the coin scandal. Can you create a megathread or something that talks specifically about that, so that every other thread can focus on gaming? Do you think Flash will participate in /win the next SSL? Do you think he will go back to peak form? Who would win, Flash or peak Snow (January 2024), etc ?

I mean, seems pretty obvious to me. Life compromised the integrity of the game. That's the inherent difference. I don't know how it works in Europe, but at least here people really only hold out of competition infraction grudges against players unless they involve serious physical harm against people or animals.
If i was mod, i would ban all talk of crypto. Not 1 person using TL bought into flash's crypto scam, this is just a bunch of unaffected people circle jerking their moral compass like it means something.

If we restricted discussions solely to what personally affected us, well it wouldn’t be much of an active forum

I'm not fond of the crypto talk either, it's been discussed to death here, but if we use this standard it'd mean we shouldn't have said anything about Rapid at BSL too.

I think flash will watch SSL smiefinal, happy to see him return
That was lame. Wasn't wrong when I said he's kind of a coward. Hid for so long, played a 10 min pre-recorded video which wasn't even recorded recently, then tomorrow he'll go on as business as usual.

i disagree. i think it is not cowardice but a very deep and profound shame that explains his behavior. can you not see it in his eye? other streamers involved in coin returned months/years ago...he waited so long...he loves starcraft so much... it is rumoured he abandoned his self care...i was not surprised to see that in the pre-recorded apology video he looks like he aged 10 years.
there will be two types of responses: 1. sympathy from those who also have committed a great misdeed and repented 2. stones from those who have not

You are vile. What else do you want from this man? Personally kneel down before you and give you pleasure?
Seriously... why can't people accept him back and just watch him play Starcraft...
He should've done this a year ago. I was afraid he was never coming back but we got FlaSh back. And these comments lol... Pathetic. Why out of all streamers/players FlaSh needs to be most responsible for coin scandal meanwhile Bisu, Sea and rest apologized ages ago and they don't even remember or talk about it but you guys still wanna hunt FlaSh down. And it wasn't like FlaSh knew it was going to become a scam. Go touch some grass.

Because he was close friend with the owner of the coin, invested first, then invited Bisu Sea etc. into the scheme with them. There's a hierarchy and while we don't know how much each of them was involved or knew if it was a scam, the logical assumption is Flash would know better and would have more responsibility.
Don't get me wrong I'm glad all of them came back and we can have more SC and I wouldn't even be against Savior coming back tomorrow lol. But me being okay with that is unrelated to me making a comment on their character, based on what I observed. At least the others just turned on their camera and had a conversation with the fans. But Flash waited for almost 2 years, made his appearance on the ladder a secret to noone, let other streamers pave the way for his comeback numerous times. A that smoothing only to play a 10 min pre recorded video on his first stream. Lame.

FlaSh spent his many years to looking for some reasons which he needed to say apology to his fans but unfortunately, he can't find anything to do. He never sees what doesn't exist.
In the StarCraft, if you win, you don't have to say apology to your enemy beacause the guy is so dull. It's not your fault!
I dont know if the way he did will makes any difference. He got like 12k viewers at the moment. Some will complain, some will not. In half year everybody will be hyped with his return to ASL or dialy ProLeauge. After all it will still make this game last longer.
For me he seems to be bit too proud and litlle bit arrogant to make really good apperance after being in the shadow. As a player he is maybe God, as a person i never was a fan of him.

I think you need to learn how to forgive. That's the middle ground.
If we're talking about his ability to play and stream again then no, it won't make a difference. He could have just turned on the stream not saying a word and in the end it wouldn't matter because there are always fans and it's not like the other pros would boycott him.
But that's also why I have an issue with this. He can return this simply because others (Sea, Britney, Guemchi, Bisu...) have already done all the heavy liftings for him years ago. I dont remember exactly but it was probably Sea who started the digging up from the underground for them to return. Maybe a weird take from me but I have respect for Sea because he was the one brave enough to go first. And their apology streams were uncomfortable to watch.
In contrast, Flash who started it all, essentially had his time off anyway due to the military service, chilled for another 2 years, then played a video which feels more like a documentary about him overcoming difficulties in life, and hey, it's me again.

The middle ground is ‘hey I fucked up’, ‘ok it sucked but you are forgiven’
Not dancing around it for literal years at this point
Of course it was prerecorded, FlaSh is too big of a star to go live and improvise his apology on the fly.
Let the man play. Worse things have been done than this.
I mean, Tom Brady, Steph Curry, Larry David, Matt Damon...all these people took sponsorship from FTX and shilled them hard, and what happened...nothing.

In my opinion, the relative long time it took for him to come with an apology speaks for him. An apology should come after a time of reflection, not after getting caught.

Its a $10 dollar rubber dome. Be ready to pay 10 times the price that it retails for in Korea.
Not worth. It is a membrana Keyboard so for the long term is already a bad buy. FlaSh and effort were the only progamers using this keyboard as far as i know.
My recommendation for a nice keyboard is a mechanical keyboard with cherry silent switches. It is up to you to pick it TKL or not.
Is it me or the money those guys can make off tournaments is probably peanuts compared to their streaming revenues? I guess winning ASLs boosts your viewership though.

First is like 21k over the course of many years and ASLs that is like 340k if my numbers are right. Over that length of time it is peanuts though the total sum is a pretty nice stack.
I'm not sure how much revenue Korean streamers generate nor how effective their money is, but that does seem like peanuts when compared to what very popular twitch streamers make per year, some of who beat that total sum many times over in just one year. Totally doubling down on my ignorance on how much streams make over there or how far money goes.

Daily proleague so far is 4.3 million and not even 2 years has passed.... And the crazy thing is the prize money keeps on increasing. 10k a day is low these days.
And even that is low compared to the annual 8 million in donations cumulative to streamers.
Even only a top 100 streamer can earn close to 100k these days, which only S class pros could have done during Kespa.

I tried to google it but I cannot find info on the proleague and prize pool. Someone said in another thread that the most recent match had a 10,000,000 KRW or like 7,000. I'm not sure of the prize pool split or whatever. So overall I'm not sure it speaks to how much or little money is made when compared to just streaming. This isn't me saying that is bad money for sort of a non-big-production proleague, just that it isn't anything that says that proleague or ASL or other small events is any better or worse than streaming. Obviously the very best of players probably win in both areas, but there are probably niche areas where some people do really well in one place or the other and make more money for themselves.
Edit your last line, top 100 streaming earn 100k. Is this factual? That seems pretty good? Top 100 is people who can't even qualify for an ASL. Though I think streaming is random and it isn't always about who is best, can lean on personality and content. Still if the top 100 can earn 100k that leads me to think that flat out streaming is most profitable, but perhaps competition dives viewership as well. I'm sure if like stork or like speed went to the finals it would certainly drive their viewership higher.
