This isn't true. I heard that Terran players are hard working. They grind games 16 hours a day ruining their wrists while Protoss players partying on the beach.

Actually, this game uses brain, it doesn't use hands. Low tier players usually have 400+ apm but really pro players have 330+ apm.

not true lol.
Yes it is 100% brain game, but it is not connected to APM.

Soulkey and snow and light and mind will often drop to 250-280 apm.
Mini Larva and Hero will play over 400 apm most of the game. Royal JyJ too go below 280 a lot.

Just gonna say that Hero always starts out with crazy APM, but drops off a cliff to like sub 280 in the mid-late game. Biggest drop out of any progamer I've seen

Effort and Hyuk are really the Zergs who consistently stay above 400

Hero maintains it up to like 18 minutes which is still high cuz games usually dont go over 18 much.

savior and stork are osl champions known for having some of the lowest apm's out there (below 250) so yeah

it's all about eapm in the end if you want a number to analyze

Actually, it isn't even about eapm. While most pros do have high eapm, some of them don't yet are champions in ASL or Online tournaments. Here's some examples from some proleagues from 2021 using SCRCHART, which is better than repmastered for EAPM because it removes the first 2 minutes of spam, where nothing of value happens:

+ Show Spoiler [Lower apm/eapm examples] +

From a 16 minute match, Effort vs Mini:

From a 17 minute match, Rush vs Stork:

Here are some eapm monsters:

I think most of the time it is about playing smart, doing the correct build order, hitting timings, getting good information, making smart moves. Apm and Eapm aren't that important. Looks cool sometimes, but it is overrated.

One more:
Cwal ladder match with mind vs soulkey from 2024. it was only 7 minutes long but its a good example:

Interesting, how is eAPM actually calculated? I probably should know this…

Honestly, you'd have to ask Masterrey what algorithm he used.
I do think there are things that are VERY important to do, that you can't pick up as eapm with ANY algorithm. If you look closely at how Soulkey plays, a bunch of his actions which count as spam, are small little positional moves he makes to get better alignments. Also I feel that shift+number isn't counted as apm, but ctrl+number is. So players who use a lot less ctrl+number and more shift+number get lower eapm.

Hyuk on the other hand, adds a lot of actions that count as eapm, but that don't actually help him at all or do much. He is technically and mechanically by far the best player, but it actually just doesn't add anything. He can at ungodly fast speeds add a full macro cycle inbetween his attack moves when he's doing mutalisk micro, but he does it on reflex even when he has no minerals to spend on anything.

I would be interested to see the apm of pros playing agaisnt him; his games tend to go for longer with how he plays.

I would also bet Hyuk's apm is the result of him auto-piloting most the time, and I don't know if anyone understands this but he's probably that guy that can't stop himself from just doing stuff. It's like that guy that keeps inspecting his knife in csgo. It really explains the mistakes he made in his games. It wasn't like he was bad; he clearly got skills but the way this dude was losing games is just spectacular. Similar case with Backho, too.

In contrast, Savior's apm was famously low but a big trademark of his game-play was to induce mistake from people (and by people i meant some of the most fucking insane players ever) by overloading them.

Hyuk definitely does it out of habit and it is definitely holding him back. he often misses timings on defense by a few more seconds than others do, and overspends on units he doesnt actually need because he automatically presswd macro cycles.

Some really good examples of players deliberately playing a bit slower on purpose are Soulkey, light, mind, snow and best. Queen sometimes too. They just take a moment inbetween everything to just look at things the enemy has, click on some enemy units for health and such, and then go back to clicking and such.

goodfriend got success with practice and talent and then after he moved to ktf and got the bag he stopped caring and got crap at the game
casy also in a similar boat - after his osl win he got too blindsided by the fame that came with winning and stopped caring too
