He announced he will participate in ASL 13 and will focus on getting his own skill level up (as opposed to doing Starcraft female college content)

Will be nice to see JD take StarCraft genuinely seriously again. Question is for how long.

Afreeca fad of teaching female streamers to play Starcraft against each other, very popular with male viewership and lots of money involved There's a good amount of pros who think it's more lucrative to do female college content rather than keeping up their own 1-on-1 skills. Some examples of pros who are more focused on female college content recently: Action, Shuttle, Calm, Rain, Horang2, Shine, Leta, Hyuk, Sacsri. Even Best, Hero and Stork are getting into college stuff lately.

Also I think it's kinda cool how melee only pros like Rush stated female players and popular male streamers from other categories, should be included in Afreeca's destruction match as it would bring more entertainment to the BW scene. Cool thing #2 is how Afreeca PD's were discussing the possibility of making "dugouts" for the various colleges at the new live studio after seeing 100k + viewers in the latest school vs school match.

be grateful that streamers from other games have taken an interest in starcraft and have collaborated with the pros to make new content. starcraft would otherwise be dead, even in afreeca, if it was just a bunch of retired pros playing "competitive" 1v1s all day every day.

If any of those new "college" sc girls starts infiltrating into something like ASL, people will stop watching. There's a reason LoL has 100K viewers daily. Half of them are 11 year olds. BW was dying because all of the top players are either not playing anymore or retired. Put Flash vs Jaedong tomorrow in a Bo5 and watch cumulative amount of 50K people show up out of nowhere.

Also, majority of viewers are not going to watch Flash vs JD day after day after day. Get with the times, pro-gamers love the fact there is a new spotlight on BW right now. This way of thinking is so in parallel with elitists in the chess community who were shitting on Hikaru for playing chess with noob entertainment streamers like xQc and camgirls on Twitch. Stop gatekeeping and enjoy the game in all aspects.

I'm more curious about: On December 24 2021 17:56 oxKnu wrote: Yeah, right. If any of those new "college" sc girls starts infiltrating into something like ASL, people will stop watching. Aside from the general absurdity of this statement, why did you decide to put quotes around the word "college"? Are they somehow not legitimately college students or graduates? It sounds as if you want to demean their degrees? But more important, why did you use the word "infiltrate", a word with negative connotations, in this sentence? "Infiltrate" implies someone is sneaking in where they are not wanted. Are you implying that these "college" females do not belong? If someone legit qualifies to play BW or play in the ASL, how are they "infiltrating" it? Sorry if I am being a bit of a dick, as I have no idea if English is your first language. But the sentence above (and the intention of this post in general) is just hilarious to me: "These damn 'college'-educated females trying to play BW! They are infiltrating our game, and the ASL! It must remain pure otherwise the 50K people from out of nowhere who normally don't watch won't watch! Quick, get the broken-wristed old-timers Flash and JD! That'll draw in the 50K 11-year-old LoL crowd!" (author's note: Big fan of both players, don't mean any offense by it, especially in a thread for JD. :D) Also, the rest of your post implies no one watches BW anyway ("50K people show up out of nowhere" [italics for emphasis] implies that for the rest of this time, these 50K viewers are not watching, right? IE they are somewhere else), so what difference does it even make if a bunch of people want to stream other BW content for fun and profit? Are you seriously expecting Flash and JD to battle 24/7 on stream? How long do you think that viewership will be sustained? There's a reason LoL has 100K viewers daily. Half of them are 11 year olds. There are plenty of reasons why LoL might have 100K viewers daily. You have actually given none of them. See, half of them being 11 year olds might explain 50% of their viewership, but it actually isn't a reason as to why LoL has 100K viewers daily, or why these 11 year olds happen to make up 50% of their viewership (if this is even a correct statement). Let me put it to you in the form of a Q&A: Q: Why does LoL have 100K viewers daily? A: The reason is that half of them are 11 year olds. Not understanding yet? Okay how about: Q: Why do millions watch soccer/football daily? A: The reason is that half of them are men. See how this actually makes no sense as an answer or a reason? Try again. BW was dying because all of the top players are either not playing anymore or retired. Put Flash vs Jaedong tomorrow in a Bo5 and watch cumulative amount of 50K people show up out of nowhere. Again, there are plenty of reasons to explain why BW "was dying", and many of them have nothing to do with the fact that Flash and JD aren't battling on stream 24/7. Also, why would the 50K 11 year olds that play LoL (and are, according to you, sustaining 50% viewership levels of that game) suddenly decide that watching two e-sports geriatrics in a "dead game" is worth their time? Unless you are saying we would just bring back the 50K people that already watch BW? Either way, doesn't sound like it's going to be sustainable for the future?

My post was pretty straight forward and it simply meant if an organizer like Afreeca would decide to change their format for ASL so that they accommodate these new streamers into the bracket that would be a serious wtf move for the vast majority of the current viewerbase. Again, a pretty obvious statement. Very low chance that this will ever happen, but it's the perfect counterpoint to highlight that the two audience don't intersect as much as some people would like to think. Other than that...it's a free world, anyone can do whatever the hell they want with their streams and whatnot.
