you dont get any formal education during your time in the military that can typically be put to use in the normal world. you get paid money no different to what you would make working part time in society. you dont get any perks after youve been discharged either. youre back in society exactly where you left off, except youre 2 years older. youve literally just given 2 years of your life for the service of the country with no material benefit for yourself. only if you want to have a military career does those 2 years amount to anything meaningful.
if you look at conscription from a wider perspective however, the benefit of having a large army that doesnt have a war they have to be at is the country can mobilise the soldiers for public service reasons. a low cost, highly efficient workforce that can assist with any government task is very handy and i personally think this benefit is very underrated. korea has exploited this many times and if conscription is no longer a thing the loss of this benefit is something that makes me sad. tbh its probably the second biggest reason why the korean government wont remove conscription. if you look at the likelihood of warfare commencing with north korea again, you could even argue that its the biggest reason.

the only reason to go to the military that makes some sense is the fact that they teach you how to manage weapons, that is kinda useful in the case of a revolution, other than that, mandatory military is non sense to freedom.
