BGH Auto Balance was something really special for the Brood War custom community. For many of us it brought back the joy of playing 3v3 BGH with actually balanced teams, real statistics, and some sense of competition. It made public games feel fair again.
What makes it even more frustrating is that the community clearly cared about it. People offered help, support, ideas, and even the possibility to purchase or maintain the project so it could continue evolving. Unfortunately those opportunities were never taken.
Today the system isn’t completely dead, but it feels rusty and neglected compared to what it once was and what it could have become.
What makes it even more of a shame is that projects like ShieldBattery exist and continue to evolve for Brood War. But this project was something different — it solved a very specific problem in the BGH scene that nothing else really replaced. In many ways it was ahead of its time for community-run automation and balancing.
I still appreciate the work that went into creating it in the first place. It gave a lot of players great games and good memories. I just wish it had been allowed to grow with the help that was offered.
