I think both my macro and knowledge of timings/specific builds is trash, and I always wing it while having several k minerals and gas in the bank, but I end up winning much more I should and I have no idea why. Not against terran though, facing terran needs skill and I don't have that.

Just because you can't do something doesn't mean you can't understand the theory. I am far from a genius, but I definitely feel my understanding is way above the MMR I sit at and that's because I spend hours watching games/reading up on theory and what not. I just suck at actually playing the game itself. I don't know what you feel about my knowledge of the game, maybe you think I know jack shit and that's fair enough I guess :D Great interview, can't wait for Part 2 Incomplete!

That's why coaches exist. There's coaches in sports or even eSports that have never played the game and they still have a deep understanding. Precisely. Being able to watch/cast games and seemingly understanding the position and builds/timings while having full vision of the map is not even in the same galaxy. And to reference the above's point on mind games and little movements (tactics) - these are very real and paramount variables in higher level games. Now to take into account analyzing all of this information (not including the psychological warfare when playing an opponent you have history with) in real time with fog of war and still maintaining your macro is a different animal. Even I can understand why pros are making the decisions they are making when watching an FPVOD, because I can devote everything to just watching rather than 300 apm.

Ah, I think I missunderstood Avi's point. I thought he meant it was impossible to have an understanding of the game better than your execution. When you're playing I think understanding even involves what to do when which is something I am awful at, but I think when casting/watching I think it's quite a bit easier to understand and analyse.

the actual execution of that concept, e.g. weaving between defenders, introduces massive complexity and even more decisions. whats ur path? what are this guy's tendencies? is he off balance? who's open? if uve never been there and never had to make all those tiny decisions in rapid succession, ull never even realize that they exist
