I happen to think that 10 hours a day seems very exaggerated. there probably are pro gamers who do practice that much, but I was wondering how much an average pro gamer practices

The 10 hours a day thing is definitly not an exaggeration. BoxeR used to (he still might, but I'm not sure) and some pro-gamers probably do. I would say the most accurate figure is 6-10 hours a day.

Some of those practice games might be really great kick-ass games and we don't know it, hmmm (like the four Elky vs Yell0w practice games that Elky released).

10 hours a day isn't exaggerated

Plenty of people practice this much without making any money at all.

This is part of what makes the absolute top level of progaming so exciting. Top amateurs can get better than each other just by practicing harder, while progamers simply don't have time to do that and survive at the same time. Its a very even playing field.

boxer USED to practice 12 hours a day sometimes....i'm sure most of the top pro gamers USED to practice ~10 hours a day when they still trying to make it to the top. However, I dont think its a realistic estimation that the top pro gamers STILL practice 10 hours a day. Maybe someone like leg or naz, who has intimate knowledge of korean pro gaming, can provide a more accurate answer

im kinda curious too, because when i think about it, on the days that i do play, i tend to be online between 8-14 hours (im not playing this long, the actual playing time is probably more like 5 hours, but it takes time to find games and i get other stuff done while im online)...i dont know if progamers have a strict schedule 7 days a week or not or if they only play during business hours but id be curious to know. i would think that progamers must play at least 6 hours a day of straight competitive gaming to keep at their skill level, because we all know that if you stop playing for even 3-4 days you lose a lot... the first few games when you come back tend to feel awkward and timing is off. it seems that to keep that timing a certain amount of games must be played per day, i wouldnt be surprised if the number was more than 10 hours of straight practicing...
I would tell you what I think of you, but I just cant express myself monosyllabically enough for you to understand me : [

the foreigners (edit: I meant the ones in Korea, but of course it goes for the ones outside of it too) sure as hell don't play that much

not even close.

and I don't think others play 10 hours a day either.. I don't really see anyone being able to keep that up :/

10 hours every single day what the fuck, I honestly doubt they play that much =]

The problem is they make so little money, and BW is an amazingly cheap hobby. That's part of why they got into it in the first place. Then you've got to play to keep your skills/improve. But when all your friends are top BW players, and you guys arent pulling in very much cheese on a monthly basis, what are you gonna do other than get trashed and play BW?

hehehe

I remember back when I actually somewhat knew arang. he would seriously be _constantly_ looking for games for like 16 hour periods of time with no stop. I was really really amazed by his stamina, as I've never been able to play much more than 5-6 games in a row before I grew tired myself. I don't think most koreans are like that tho. =/

but well, im getting the feeling that they "sometimes" play for 10 hours a day and then people interperate that as 10 hours every day. ;(

I can be online up to 14 hrs a day (if I have NO plans that day). Its really not hard if you dont string 5-10 games back to back ^_^..

If you read the WGTour interview with Chojja, you'll discover that he plays 5-10 games a day and about 5 hours/day.
