It's great to hear about how they were lean and hungry, but no wonder they were such great friends. Living in poverty like that, sharing their interests and isolation in culture... Someday, this would make a great topic for an anime.

Artosis: Not really. Everyone plays sports and they’re nowhere near the pro level at that. Just because you can’t dunk a basketball doesn’t mean you won’t shoot some hoops. Even though this is such a ridiculously hard game to play well, you can always find someone of your level to play with, and it’s still going to be a lot of fun, even if you’re not Michael Jordan or Flash.

I think if blizzard didnt make a ladder system for SC:R there would be pretty much only oldschoolers, But with the laddersystem there will be many newcomers that will see their progress

Didn't know things were that tough for them before they hit their stride with SC2. It's cool there's money in BW for them to go back to the original passion.

I had thought you could pretty easily replace English commentators very cheaply just translating the Korean cast by some anonymous translator, but there is something magical about the Tastosis story that even got me to watch SC2 sometimes.

You always hear about people making sacrifices, but living in a foreign land with no money and not bailing is kind of the epitome of determination. That's more than just doing something out of the goodness of your heart.

Nice read. The part about what they sacrificed in their early days in Korea reminded me of that Sons of StarCraft documentary from a few years ago.

Pretty hyped for SC:R, and I really like how they question today's emphasis on being good at something or not wanting to play at all. There is honour in in hours of practice!

Its kinda funny, after I found out that I basically grew up down the street from Plott family, I looked up the most successful people from around where I grew up.

Turns out that Nick and Sean are tied at a solid 3rd after Paul Rudd (Ant Man) and Brian McClendon (Google Earth).

Its so crazy that I never met them but hung out at the same places they did. I wonder if they ever went to the old BattleZone LAN place near my house. I had some friends that might have played them in BW if they did. Small world.

So true Artosis! I observed this in many aspects in life. PhD level economics is nowehere near as hard as making it to the top in Starcraft (which I never managed to do despite spending endless hours on improvement).
