JD,Flash,Bisu think SSL negative. They say that no preliminary is nonsense, and do not want to participate in SSL And ASL 3 is postponed a week. 910 who is ex-progamer and works in afreecatv now gives us this information.

Good decision. Broodwar needs fresh blood, which is not coming unless tournaments are available for everyone. SSL is just trying to get the viewers by inviting only the big guns.

I really want to see more BW on spotv and for that to be the case the first season surely needs to be a success. Mixed feelings about this.

At the same time, we'll get to see how much the exclusion of these top favorites will affect viewership for an event like this and how much their names are really propping up the scene.

Prelims would be better but a fan vote will not decrease the fan scene. Therefore I think it's just dumb to boycott the whole event just because of this ( I know you weren't arguing against this).

I would argue that it's their responsibility to use the clout they have for good in the absence of any real structure in how professional BW is organized. Also, TBLS will continue to have this star power as long as it's impossible for anyone else to break out, which in turn will be the case as long as fan voting or Afreeca viewer count or whatever determines tournament participation. I think open signups have been important for players like Last, who is much more famous now than he ever was during the KeSPA era. I'd love to see a chart of his viewership before and after that first really good run in SSL.
