With that being said, Effort and Larva are both good players so it's not like he just lost to some low level players. It's just sad because JD looked good in this spon games (zvz), it simply didn't work ou in ASL

JD lost the rock-paper-scissors in the first match versus larva, but it was really puzzling why he decided to 9 pool. The rush distances are long and the map makes it hard to attack the natural because it is on high ground. The game was nearly over once larva 12 pool'd. Basically, it seems like JD hoped to catch larva off guard and win with his micro because no one 9 pools on this map. But JD is so good at ZvZ that he should have played a bit more conservatively. He let the mutalisk die to the spore because he knew he had lost. In the losers' match versus effort (who is one of the worst ZvZers in the top tier), JD actually won the rock-paper-scissors this time because taking the natural is better for the economy than going to the "third world" for the first expansion (due to the lengthy drone transfer time to the "third world"). Now, JD had an opportunity to get a bigger advantage by pushing his lings across the installation gate, but that took away his attention from an important engagement... According to Stork's live commentary during the game, it is actually much easier to push the lings across the gate from 1 o'clock than it is from 5 o'clock. Stork said that he knows how to position the lings to make it work easier from 5 o'clock but JD wasn't using that position. One wonders why JD didn't play more conservatively, but his aggression is also what makes him so great. Maybe it just wasn't his day. All of this is to say that it sucks ballz that JD is eliminated. Same goes for Stork. With the map pool, this was the perfect opportunity for them to show us some BO5s in the higher rounds...

It's not a near-automatic win (like in the first match), but it's gotta be almost a 7:3 advantage or something like that. 12 hatch in the third world is targeting 1-hatch play from the opponent. In that situation, ling all-ins will normally not work against 12 hatch at the nat since there are more larvae available for JD with both hatcheries on the same side of the gate in addition to the defender's advantage. Furthermore, since ZvZ goes up to mutalisks anyways, if it is the same build and you get a 100~200 mineral advantage that is huge, especially since JD's muta micro is also much better than Effort's muta micro.

To put it in other words, I'm a Jaedong fan, I fucking love to see him play in live tournaments and show his skills at the game. In my mind (this is my general perception) I only see that side of this player when I see him playing a series of 5 (or 3 maybe, but 5) games vs another competitor, better be a P or T. During the series I can feel how he prepares specially and strategically for each round while I watch him play, and this such a big deal for me as BW entusiast because I think he is the best of the best at that. For me the group phases are something I desperately want JD to survive to be able to see him play, and thus it is such a bummer to see him beeing eliminated vs zergs in 5 min long games at group starges where one can see pressure and nerves play such a bad trick on him. And now to wait i don't know how much time to see if he may play the next one and would be in a good shape to make a good run, with him beeing in pretty good shape right now, such a waste. I think some things can be done to give players a little more room to show the results of training and preparation, considering the few opportunities they get given the long periods of time between tournaments. One that pops up right to my mind is doing just one group stage and then go to brackets right from the ro16 (mb make ro16 bo3 format and just make bo5's from ro8 to the finals if can't afford so much time on TV, that way two brackets of ro16 can be played in one day making it four days long, same as if it were group format). Aside from that, it's awesome to have ASL ofc. BW Hwaiting!

I wonder if its because he himself is out and realizes that he could won the champ easier now.. Or, he is friends with flash, and feels empathy..? Or is he just still frustrated because of the ro.16 or is it because he too took flash to game 5 but lost the last one, so a bit jealous to snow? Im just curious why he looks so crushed..
