Just a quick, silly question. Everytime when that Britney dude streams, the stream always has the most viewers. But everytime I tune in, he is always doing the most random things (eating food, browsing sites.. I don't know.. anything BUT playing Brood War ). So he seems to be doing nothing really special.. Why is it so popular?

He's not really a Starcraft streamer anymore, but one of the biggest 'variety' streamers on Afreeca. He averages 15k+ viewers doing daily life IRL streams, and does random variety content where he's hit 60k+ viewers before. Part of the reason MPL was even possible in the first place is due to Britney's immense popularity in Afreeca. However, it's really hard to enjoy his stream if you're not completely fluent in Korean and understand Afreeca's streaming culture. I really enjoy his streams though - Koreans really take IRL variety streams to the next level, with examples such as 240 hour streams (they stream themselves sleeping as well) and 'missions' where people donate mind-boggling amounts of money to Britney to make him do stupid shit and basically control every aspect of his life. He's making insane money at this point though.
Terror (Chul-gu, former STX) is basically an even more popular version of Britney, although he's doing his mandatory military service so he's no longer streaming, same with Sea (although Sea's not as big, he has a massive cult following). They're basically celebrities to young Koreans at this point, with frequent comedic and some sexually provocative content.

People(afreeca streamers and viewers) treat terror as a president of afreeca stream platform. He made a word "ang~ gimotti"(앙~ 기모띠) popularized to the young generations and streamers and did crazy stuff in the past. His name was Lee, Chul Gu or Cheol Gu whatever his english written name is, but he officially changed his name to Ye Jun or Ye Joon.
Britney broadcasted MPL last year and it was honestly my favorite BW tourney of the year. He has done so much for Starcraft, I think he should stay featured. I mean if you know he probably won't stream BW, why even click on his stream? Also, every time I tried to watch JD the past few weeks, he was playing LoL. Surely you guys don't want to remove him as well?

He still plays Starcraft occasionally - once or twice a week, not too seriously though. He's actually still pretty good! Could probably hit 2600+ if he took the game seriously. He is starting to stream some more Starcraft content (during his 240 hour relay stream, which is starting tomorrow), but it's not during his 'main' broadcast times since his variety fans hate him playing Starcraft.
Britney and Terror have played a big role in helping Starcraft pros make a living in Afreeca also; not only do they keep the scene going with tournaments, their popularity allows them to frequently feature ex-BW pros in their broadcasts, which have been a massive boost to their popularity on Afreeca/Youtube and such. For example, Bisu has benefited a lot from his relationship with Terror, while GuemChi's success can partially be credited to Britney.
It crossed my mind he gets more clicks from TL net just cuz his nick looks more badass with that Korean flag. He's the only one with the flag, and it makes him look like a champion of korea or something.
As a matter of fact, I just noticed his huge numbers, thought about it, came to this flag conclusion (which obviously may be a minor thing, now that I've read the thread), then searched TL for "why britney" and ended up here :D
he played some games a week ago when i clicked on his stream, its not like he doesnt stream bw. he just streams so much, that the bw part seems non-existant compared to all the other stuff.

I think that is because of the chinese culture. Like their crazy non sense game shows, which only they enjoys. I was always wondering why some random chinse guy sleeping and 10k viewers watch him... I don't get it too.
Also, I noticed it is very popular, these streamer to be kinda odd. Like, i am watching Bisu and Flash streams a lot, and sometimes there are 3 guys who are yelling and screaming like crazy when a marine kills a zergling... 30+ years old guys screaming like crazy and thinks that is funny... dunno.
On Bisu stream, occasianately there are like 4 guys + 1 girl and all of these 4 guys screaming and acting like crazy around that girl. 30+ years old guys, act like 12... I feel sorry for their girls. I just don't understand it, perhaps it is a cultural thing.
