However he was very successful in SC2. So I guess something very bad is going on in Korea for SC2 because everyone is jumping ship (no only the BW GOATs). If only I could read the Korean forums... -.-

He stayed quite long there i think but I don't really remember. Since you know SC2, it's a little like MC. MC played BW, like NesTea but they weren't big names. Also new WCS system + study. You can ask him on FB he is quite friendly.

Never made it to any of the individual leagues, never broke the top 30 KeSPA rankings, and basically sniped terrans from time to time in the ProLeague. As for Starcraft 2, the scene never was alive in Korea, and once your professional career ends (I imagine M18M made quite a bit abroad if he was as successful as you say), it would be fruitless for people to stream Starcraft 2 on Afreeca, a place where nobody watches Starcraft 2. It's just the natural order of things.

So I guess it's more profitable to stream BW on Afreeca even if you are small name rather than stream SC2 on Twitch. I never understood how SC2 got its place on TV but never made it on the Afreeca streams... Could it be that, as Letmelose said, SC2 was never alive in Korea and the scene is kinda artificially created? I wonder...

For example, FIFA Online has a greater player base than Starcraft 2 and is also on SPOTV Games. Games that are popular on Afreeca, the most popular internet streaming service, are mostly League of Legends, FIFA Online, and Starcraft. Starcraft 2 has its niche following, but then again, so does the likes of Heartstone, and Heroes of the Storm. Just enjoy the Starcraft 2 scene as it is. I'm sure there are still numerous skilled players playing the game.

They can get sponsors and keep team leagues afloat, but their strict rules along with team house rules prevent Afreeca streaming from catching on. I think it'd do wonders for their publicity to take the Afreeca plunge.

They seem obsessed with trying to make it when a KeSPA player is playing Starcraft as it being a big event. I doubt they'd want to just give them away on Afreeca even if I do 100% agree with you.

But some Kespa players play the Olimoleague, mostly Samsung players. I think it's not Kespa's directive, but some teams'. On the other hand, I wouldn't call it an obsession but rather marking the players which should be their priorities (prestigious tournament like PL > Olimoleague); my guess is that when you play for a Korean team they want you to align your goals with them, not act as if they were a sponsor that only requires you to wear a team jersey and an in-game tag.

I actually really liked the format they used in BW. One Team League with quite a lot of games, OSL/MSL three times a year and some smaller stuff in between (STX Cup etc) fit well. The GOM Classic Seasons were fine too, but maybe too stressful for some since the most important league was PL after all.

Could it be that, as Letmelose said, SC2 was never alive in Korea and the scene is kinda artificially created? I wonder... well you can always gauge the popularity of a game stream on afreeca with ranking data they provide on gametv.afreeca.com + Show Spoiler [1~20] + 1. LoL 2. BW 3. Minecraft 4. Sudden Attack 5. StarLeague 6. Maplestory 7. Lineage 8. Fifa Online 3 9. Kart Rider 10. Dungeon and fighter 11. Hearthstone 12. GSL 13. GTA5 14. Warcraft 15. SC2 16. Bubble Fighter 17. Aion 18. Cyphers 19. Diablo 3 20. Heroes of the Storm I think there are other factors at play making streaming BW more profitable than SC2 too. Afreeca streamers earn money through their donation system unlike twitch where you press the ad button and make a fraction of a cent for each viewer that doesn't have adblock turned on. So with a viewer base like BW where a majority of the fans are most likely in the 20s~30s range, they have some extra money they can donate regularly. Also since there's a big pool of other BW streamers, you see viewer donation sponsored matches all the time. this can also be a decent source of income even if you don't have a big viewer base on afreeca provided you have the skill to win.

I miss Stardust so much in SC2. Someone should re-create BW in SC2 entirely (with all the nuances, like no rallying workers, ect), so all the streamers can move over and we can enjoy better graphics.

They do still have Starbow with a few units brought over, but didn't catch as well when only a few guys jumped up cause it's altogether not brood war or SC2, but a hybrid.

Would you like someone to update the Mona Lisa with better graphics too? I'm sure people would still admire the original more than the "updated" version because of unreplicable value that it has. People come back to Brood War because it's a brilliant masterpiece, shallow focus on graphics aside.

You're using the word "better" as if it's an objective thing. Can you define qualities that you take into consideration when determining if something has better or worse graphics? I think you meant "newer" or "modern" and that you prefer them more, so saying they're better is a subjective thing.

What if I like the Brood War graphics more than those of Starcraft 2? I like the clean structure and that you can always distinguish every unit/animation from each other. In SC2 you only see a big blob with some lasers and beams around it. As 2Pac already mentioned, the appreciation of classic/modern graphics is subjective and not objective at all. Just come and watch Brood War without your prejudice about the classic graphics and you might appreciate them. And yes you could return that request to me. And you are right SC2 graphics are "better" in fight-less scenes, but tbh the fight is the most important part and you should be clearly able to tell what unit is doing which animation. And in this case, as mentioned before, Brood Wars classic graphics are a lot more enjoyable in my oppinion.
