The Sbenu Starleague (with OGN, Sbenu, and Sonic TV) begins with the RO32 group selection ceremony on December 21 (Sunday) at 3PM. The league will run for approximately 2 months.
The group selection, which will take place at Yongsan eSports Stadium, will signal the beginning of a new Starleague. It will include JangBi (the winner of the final OSL), ZerO, Mind, ToSsGirL (the female pro gamer), and more.
The total prize pool is 50,000,000 Korean Won. The league begins with the group selection on Sunday (21st) at 3PM. Every Wednesday and Thursday at noon, the RO32 dual tournaments will be exclusively broadcast on SonicTV.
From the RO16 onwards, we will adopt the full league format (note: full league seems to be used by Koreans to mean something like round robin) and broadcast on OGN. The casters will be Jeong Sorim (note: the female caster you may remember from Proleague. More recently involved in HungryApp matches), Kim Carry, and TheMarine. The schedule is as follows: 1PM on Sundays and Thursdays (January 8~February 14) at Yongsan eSports Stadium+ Show Spoiler [Pictures] +

. The grand final will take place on February 14 (note: Valentine's Day. We heart BW).
Other details and the names of the participating players will be revealed at the group selection ceremony on December 21 (Sunday) at 3PM.
It's been a long wait. We're really doing it. Really! Soon!
The players will not get to choose their groups (note: like MSL) but rather draw lots for their groups (note: like OSL). I am shaking with anticipation.
There are those who would call me the master of playing hard-to-get. Let me play hard-to-get one last time.
You're curious about who the 32 players are, right?
You won't regret it if you come.
Come to Yongsan. We will be waiting together with the players!!
Bonus: The text from the trailer. We need to get a movie voice over guy on this pronto. Serious chills. + Show Spoiler +
A league that surpasses all imagination begins!
Tearful Kim Carry at Tving 2012: "For loving Starleague...and us, thank you"
Everyone thought that it was impossible, that it was really the end.
Sonic at FIX Starleague: "And the winner is...BISU!"
The flame that was declared extinguished 2 year ago, there are men who have kept it alive.
Everyone believed that it was the end of the road.
Dreams into reality Ridicule into cheers The path down which no one dared travel The path that no one believed possible The man who walked that road in silence He finally did it

also tossgirl going to get fucking wrecked, though I guess it depends on the group (jangbi isn't active either, don't know how well by.spire is doing nowadays, he did ok in amateur stuff).
i love that Jangbi plays and Kim Carry casts. from the last OSL to this SSL, which is the closest we can get right now to a legitimate OSL , we kind of have the full circle. The champion and the commentator of the hour are here. So amazing. WOW

Since I got to meet Reach today and got an autograph, would be awesome to meet Jangbi too.

I assume this means we can't restream to twitch, and they won't be broadcasting it on twitch like they did for SC2? Kind of worrisome considering afreeca is p2p and can be spotty for foreign viewers.

He'll be doing delayed rebroadcasts on the same days.

The card he is holding is a "trap card" (traps are activated by certain things) from "yugiyoh". He is often referenced to the Pokemon "magikarp", because he plays with his mouth open, somewhat resembling a fish.
news from Korea. Group selection is finished. You guys can see it at unfortunately it does not have any translation. I'll list some former progamers below. An interesting part is that there are some new faces. Most of them are former practice partners or semi-progamers or, progamers that were little known to public. My list will not include them.
Group A: Movie(진영화, Protoss, CJ Entus), Zero(김명운, Zerg, Woongjin), Ssak(최호선, Terran, SKT1)
Group B: Mini(변현제, Protoss, STX Soul), Firebathero(이성은, Terran, Khan), Killer(박준오, Zerg, OZ --> The8th), Organ(임진묵, Terran, Woongin)
Group C: gangyu(한상봉, Zerg, Woongin --> SKT1), Last(김성현, Terran, STX Soul), Snow(장윤철, Protoss, CJ Entus)
Group D: Mong(윤찬희, Terran, CJ Entus), Hyuk(박재혁, Zerg, SKT1), ToSsGirL(서지수, Protoss, STX Soul)
Group E: HerO(조일장, Zerg, STX Soul --> The8th), ZeuS(전태규, Protoss, CJ Entus), SeaGuemChi(김승현, Protoss, Woongin -> ACE)
Group F: Larva(임홍규, Zerg, SKT1), Pure(박세정, Protoss, Wemade FOX)
As I said, I have excluded former practice partners and semi-programers or amateurs from this list. Group H is considered to be a 지옥조, which literally means a "group of hell", and Group A and B are also considered as groups that are difficult to survive within
If there are mistakes or left outs, please let me know.
overall the line up is very impressive: Hiya, Jangbi, Mind, FireBathero, Organ, Hyuk, Snow, Pure, HerO, Pretty, Movie, Zero Shuttle, Modesty.
All those players were very renowned players. Many have once reached to the top at their height. I believe we can expect some great games throughout the league.
The round of 32 will be held throughout the last week of December. The first match will be held on January 24th, I think. It will be broadcasted on online. The round of 16 will be broadcasted at OngameNet, and it will start at January 8th.
tyson didn't play for ace (MBC -> Team 8) and organ/piano did (Woongjin -> ACE -> woongjin).
if you aren't aware jinhyeokhyun, we at tl have an active "brood war tournaments" section (link) where there will be threads for all the matches as we watch them live!

Yeah, but there's some really clear favourites. Firebathero is a name that's great to see, but he is gonna be so out of practice. I think the most he's done with BW in the last year is stream a few casual games.
Killer is going to be so strong with no Bisu to stand in his way. I think there's only 3 or 4 players who even have a chance, and I don't give them much better than 35%
We'll have to see what the TV broadcast does to motivate them. I think Larva still wants to prove something, same with Zero. Jangbi is a wild card, you don't know how strong he's going to be. Sometimes he's just a good player, sometimes he crushes the league.
My picks for each race: Killer, Jangbi, Mong (but my heart says Fishieking).

Jangbi vs Zero Final for the storyline win.
agree to those picks. Though i really hope some of the underdogs can achieve an upset, that's where the best stories come from

I found the group selection intensely fun and interesting, thanks to the translations provided in the LR/chat. There was no weird shit and only little dancing. Zeus would of course put on a nice show. You can wait for the ro32 preview where the most interesting banters will be highlighted along with some additional translations and lovely pictures.

Not many crazy ceremonies though I liked Zeus' ceremony quite a bit so I would recommend you watch that. Overall, it was interesting to see what the players had to say, aka one of them gained 20kg supposedly LOL. I think the chat made it that much better but you'll get that with group selection summaries and such

Jangbi vs Zero Final for the storyline win.
I think not having Sea or Bisu hurt SSL just a bit but I agree, Killer is going to be unstoppable with no Sea or Bisu to give him a hard time. Given, I'm hoping we see someone step up, aka HIYA! and win the whole thing. Would be a dream :D I also wouldn't count on Jangbi. Unless he's been practicing a lot recently, his SSL9 games were pretty bad for someone of his caliber. I also hope ZerO makes it to the finals after beating Jangbi hehe.
Hero is a good player, but I don't think he has the star sense to take down an OSL, even in these post apocalyptic days of BW. The reason I give Jangbi credit is that he always comes out of no where when he starts playing really good.
Results for practice games on Fish don't seem all that persuasive to me. You can't play to win every game in practice.
