Afreeca decide to adopt 1.18 from now. So Group C and D will play 1.18 version. Mong gives us this info.

"[...] since kespa was forced out, tournament organizers have been weak. They decided to switch to the unproven (proven to have quite a few issues if we want to be accurate) 1.18 version even in the middle of the ASL. The sporting regulation in place is pretty much from the kespa era, I don't think SSL or ASL even have the means to even think about it. On top of that, blizzard will now be able to set the rules of the semi-competitive players with the ladder, which will force ASL/SSL to follow the rules set by a company who's primary aim is to sell games and not make sure that the sport is profitable on the long term."

My guess is that Fish was allowed to switch back to 1.16 until a later date due to the Korean outcry and that ASL has to follow if they don't want to disconnect even more ASL competitors and semi-competitive players on the ladder. Like I said in an older post in about hotkeys: "[...] since kespa was forced out, tournament organizers have been weak. Totally agree with your bolded section in particular. This is one of the reasons why I really dislike 1.18 and BW remastered, full stop. It's a negative direction which will likely be almost impossible to row back from, once introduced. I hope Shieldbattery can gain significant Korean uptake (and doesn't then get sued by blizzard).

Do you remember WemadeFox? He was owner of Fox team and promised to invest ASL more. It is license problem. Yes, what i want to tell you is "Guideline", as you say. Some ex pros tell continuously to AfreecaTV now. But Afreeca dont have right to decide version. And now afreeca says they will communicate with Blizzard. AfreecaTV also want to use 1.16 version until ASL3 Final.

so those "Some ex pros" are against 1.18? which ex pros are those? Its nice that AfreecaTV also wants to keep 1.16. Switching patches mid-season is like the biggest mistake ever.

Stork and Mind criticized 1.18.3 on their stream today. Stork's today stream title is ' 1.18.3 is failed.'

Why are they switching mid ASL? They are affecting the competition because 1.18 still has issues in it and this was shown when they tried it already. Never mind that it's stupid to change mid competition. This is more appropriate next ASL for more time to test things out, not now!

This does mean tho that if Blizz is like: Yeah use 1.16 until 1.18 works really well that they don't need to change right? This doesn't sound as if they are forced to change but are just uncertain what they think Blizz wants them to use.

Every esport in the world when a new patch is released always switches to the latest version. Unless the latest version has ground breaking bugs that limit the games ability to play matches at a competitive level, then I see no reason to hold onto the old patch. From what I've seen so far, there's nothing in 1.18.3 that suggests that they can't hold pro matches on it. Every pro complaint has been just them complaining about things being different. In addition it seems its only a slight minority that are against the new patch.
