Shuttle's thoughts translated.

1. On Larva

"Larva is fucking good. Can't you see that when you watch him playing? Even if you're a total shitter it's obvious who is doing well if you watch AfreecaTV. I can't win against him. He's the toughest to beat out of all the zergs. Scratch that. He's the hardest to beat out of anyone. I mean, even Flash and Bisu respect his skills, why aren't you guys doing the same? I don't know if he's just unpopular, or doesn't have enough recognition, but he's the best zerg around these days. Of course people say he's useless in a LAN setting, but it was the same for me. I couldn't do shit for ten years after my debut, but once the stars lined up I managed to win ASL. Larva has it in him to do the same."

2. On Mind

"He's washed up. He was good during the KeSPA years, but now he's just too complacent."

3. On Bisu

"The best protoss without a doubt. Even if he isn't doing well, or doesn't play the game much, it doesn't matter. Nobody can do what he does against the zerg race. That's why nobody can replace him. If he ever goes to the military we're all done for, we'll probably get butt-fucked non-stop by the zerg players. Why doesn't he stream nowadays? I need to learn how to defeat zergs by watching Bisu play."

4. On SnOw

"Yeah he's good versus terrans, but his form versus zergs is subpar. If he become good against zergs he'll do even better. His late-game is a little lacking also, so he needs to work on that too."

5. On Mini

"He's good versus zergs, so he has the potential to do well in LAN tournaments. However his unorthodox play-style versus terrans could be his downfall if people prepare specifically for his tendencies in the match-up. There's a limitation to how far you can go if you are only good at certain play-styles, and he's another player who lacks direction in the late-game. To be honest, his overall style makes him an unstable player."

6. On Rain

"In my opinion, Rain is superior to both SnOw and Mini. I haven't checked his ELO, or overall records in sponsored games, but I can just tell by watching him play. The way he uses his units, his multi-tasking, and overall gaming abilities are all superior. He is truly Bisu's successor. The only thing that's stopping him is the fact that he wastes all his time staring at boobies. He's the kind of player who can do great things if he practices hard."

7. On the kind of player who can defeat Flash in a series

"Any protoss can defeat Flash in a best-of-series. I used to get my ass kicked by Last all the time, but managed to defeat him in the finals of the first ASL. There's a difference between playing online and playing in a tournament. Of course, Flash is a beast in tournaments as well, but even Tyson has a slim chance of defeating him in a best-of-five. The problem is that no protoss player can survive long enough to face Flash in a best-of-five setting."

8. On who will win the next ASL

"Probably a zerg player. Can't you tell from the map pool? You can tell that they want a zerg champion. It'll probably be one out of Larva, EffOrt, or Soulkey, because they do well versus terrans."

This is the original post on YGOSU for those who can speak Korean, and want more information.

It would have been interesting to find out if Soulkey could eventually overthrow everyone to become the next best zerg. He did have a superior zerg-versus-terran match-up compared to Hydra, but was behind in the other two match-ups. I personally believe they might have shared the throne somewhat like July and GoRush did back in early 2005. Jaedong was struggling massively ever since his move to Team 8 (one of the worst professional environments ever from what I've heard), but perhaps he still had some tank left in him to become the very best once again.

The field was left wide open just as professional Brood War was coming to an end. There was no clear cut best player for each of the respective races, or if there was, it was by a smaller margin than the years previously. I think the other scenes that followed professional Brood War, such as the professional Starcraft 2 scene, and the current streaming scene provides a small window to what might have been, but there's simply no knowing for sure. The drive, the talent, and the discipline these players were in possession of were once tailored for the professional Brood War scene, and the circumstances they used to have couldn't be replicated in any other scene, which is one of the greatest tragedies of my life as a Brood War fan.

For some of the players, however, streaming is way better as a way of life than the monk-like lifestyle some of the players once used to have. Not only financially speaking, but in terms of having a balanced life. However, for my own selfish reasons, I wish people like Rain could have every last drop of potential for Brood War squeezed out of him under the brutish KeSPA system against his wishes. I also am glad that so many of my heroes found their place as streamers and entertainers, but I kind of miss the days when they were purely competitors, even if they cannot, and probably will not go back to those days even if they could.

Letmelose, I feel exactly the same way. Many times over, players I've been fans of have either dropped out of the ASL early due to sloppy play, or they've made it into brackets despite looking a little shaky, and I've thought to myself "maybe now they'll actually practice 1v1 games and take this seriously!" Then I'll tune into their streams and they're playing some silly UMS maps or watching videos. Frankly, I think Sea doesn't even play the game any more.

On the flip side, Larva of all people - who is already super popular as a BJ and could just be resting on his laurels - decides to buckle down and practice hard. He finds a drive that most players don't seem to have right now, grinds out 800 games a month, and goes from being a punching bag to being the only Zerg player to consistently take games off Flash. He's terrifying these days. His efforts are really paying off, and he really demonstrates what you can do with insane levels of dedication and determination... and that makes me wonder what could have been.

Yeah, it is incredible how much passion he has for the game. He was always actively participating in the scene, even when almost everyone left for SC2. Now he has a wife and a kid, he is popular streamer. He could easily just turn into more of entertainer and leave the game behind. It is incredible and I think that out of all BJs he deserves to win next big offline tournament the most. Easily my favorite streamer right now and probably the best zerg.
Be the change you want to see in the world.

Sea always lacked discipline, which is one of the reasons why I think he never managed to reach the semi-finals of any individual league even once, despite his illustrious career elsewhere and incredible capacity as one of the most memorable prodigies at the game. The streaming scene suits him a lot, but no amount of talent in the world can make up for the lack of dedication Sea has for the game.

People like Larva are the best examples of how hard work eventually pays off. I'm not sure if he is quite the best in my opinion, I personally prefer EffOrt as of now. Larva is monstrous under certain settings, but I don't think he has the guile and finesse EffOrt is in posession of, and his mirror match-up is in need of some refinement also. Consiering how most great players make their names known for being unstoppable during practice before making their mark in the competitive realm, it is up to Larva to demonstrate what he is capable of in the upcoming ASL.

As I said Larva is capable of reaching really shallow deep in tournament if he turns off online choking. He should work on his mentality and don't fall apart. Whenever I see him playing online after something doesn't go his way he just loses control of everything. If he won't reach ro8 this time after 100 hour practice then I don't believe he will ever.

There are koreans where it took years before they got over their offline nerves. I think it was Snow who recently said it took him a long time to get over his nerves and play good offline.

And some never got over it. IntoTheRain being a notable example. He dominated online events but suffered from terrible stage fright.

larva has neither the mentality or potential to be up there with TBLS. So funny seeing people effuse him with praise when he has yet to prove himself in any legitimate competition.

I think Stork beat an off-racing JD yesterday. Well not an interesting match but I'm wondering if they were aware they are playing each other. You can watch it here at the 3 hours 13 minutes mark http://vod.afreecatv.com/PLAYER/STATION/24378960#n

There was an ancient meme in Korea that you had to be a virgin to win the StarLeague, and that's why horny bastards like GoodFriend and sAviOr fell from grace so quickly, and why July could win the StarLeague even though it was years past his prime (insert fat joke here).
