Eh? He's talking about south america yes, not southern parts of the US. And it makes perfect sense calling people from the US americans and people from South America south americans, why? Because there's no other word used for citizens of the US! Citizens of the United States is a weeeeeee bit longwinded.

Ml170 fuck off it wasn't a "right or wrong" statement. Me calling it "retarded" is not clearly definable nor is it a statement of truth. It is an opinion. Further, if you want to deny to me that North Americans have a higher stake to the term "American" than South Americans I would be enchanted to hear you gurgle out some childish logic.

just like asian has come to mean the ethnicities of east asia. you wouldn't call a russian "just as asian" as a japanese person, even though from a geographical standpoint its true.

Your Russian example is significantly different because unlike the US, Russia is overwhelmingly made up of Russian born ethnic citizens. The US is a melting pot, we don't even have a nationally identified language. Additionally, the name "Russia" has a easily understandable name for its citizens, Russian. Whereas the US does not, we don't use United Statians or something. So what did we do? We just kind of appropriated "American." I'm not going to post anymore on this unless I get the standard flame attack that goes for me personally, really is not a huge deal to me. Just thought it was funny to see someone call us retarded essentially but than refer to us in a semi-racist fashion.

Fact is calling a North American "American" over a "South American is racist. by that logic though wouldn't the term 'african american' itself be racist because you're singling them out as individuals whose ancestors are from africa? What about 'Latin Americans' who got their name from the language they speak. I think people should be able to make generalizations like 'South Americans' without having to worry about being accused of being racist or quasi-racist. It's not like it's offensive/derrogatory slang. PS not trying to sound sarcastic

I'm just curious cause I've never seen a talking ass like you. book titles should be in italics. e.g. I highly recommend Grammar for Dumb Bitches.
