Former Starcraft progamer YellOw has rolled up his sleeves for esports fans. While nostalgia for Brood War is high, YellOw and legends have personally planned "Star Final Four" along with Monsterzym.
YellOw, who came for the planning meeting explained the purpose of the event. "Us progamers can plan it directly and make our own rules so that all the fans can enjoy it with us. If us old progamers arrange an occasion like this, we could rouse the hearts of the slumbering fans and enjoy ourselves too."
'Hwangsin' YellOw, 'Hero Toss' Reach, 'Dreamer' Nal_rA, and the victim of amazing matches 'Invisible Terran' Goodfriend will play in the 'Monsterzym Star Final Four' tournament. KCM, Lee Seungwon, Shark etc. will be casting along with other esports veterans.
This tournament will be held to celebrate the old memories of fans who loves esports and to help grow esports further. 'Monsterzym Star Final Four' will take place on the 5 February at 7PM in the Nexon Arena Esports Stadium.
Seats will be limited for safety reasons. If anyone's in Korea, you can apply to attend by leaving a comment with your email address and your story about why you want to attend below the post here (you can register without a social security number through Facebook): http://www.monsterzym.com/sports_esports_schedule/1304672
4 people with the best stories will be given signed uniforms that the players wear on the day.
The tournament will be streamed on the Monsterzym site.
Had to ask a friend about the lines there at the start due to having issue with translating "명경기 피해자 이병민" and it translates into "Good match victim Lee Byeong Min". Could he still be sore about the old matches?

They'll probably play a bit in prep. It's nice that they're announcing this ahead of him, at least giving them some time to get their mechanics up to snuff. They're all out of practice, so it's nice that they're all pretty much on the same level in terms of how often they play. It's not like you can drop Nada in there and suddenly everyone runs screaming because Nada still plays all the time. Hopefully we can see some of that old meta.

Seriously though if any tournament organizer is reading this, I'm pretty much ready lick your ***** for anything Brood War related and a 1000$+ prize pool.
Anyone have any experience with this Monsterzym stream site? Will we be able to watch this? Or will a restream be needed. Etc. Plz let's make sure we don't miss this.
Oh my God! Oh my God! Oh my God! Oh my God! Oh my God! Oh my God! Oh my God! Oh my God! Oh my God! Oh my God! Oh my God!
REEAAACCCCHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
I just screeched like a fan girl O.o coming from someone who does death metal vocals I don't think that's supposed to happen... Oh welll fuck it! It's the MANTOSS :D :D :D :D
If I were compare it to a restaurant for example, people were really enjoying their meal. They were enjoying their meal but one day a new menu item came out and suddenly said "Don't eat the old menu items". Put down the menu and eat this. They did that and all the regulars left.
wow that's a really good explanation about what happened. I feel like BW has more fans than SC2 in KR again right?
and yeah Goodfriend looks depressed, i felt bad for him :<
Maybe people want to eat from that old manu, cus they havent eaten from it in a long time, but the thing about nostalgia is, it tastes much better in your mind then it does in your mouth. Anyway, bon appetit.

Except that Brood War is still a thing it didn't just vanish for 1 and a half years, people still play it, people still watch it.
I'd say that I'm happy seeing more people from my country posting on these forums, but not when they are putting out such unconstructive biased blanket statements.
This is awesome. Nal_rA the toss that gave Protoss hope during the reign of savior. YellOw, the kong of kongs. Goodfriend, the legendary match he had with JulyZerg in 2005 OSL Finals. And finally Reach, the manliest Protoss to have ever existed, the Chuck Norris of all Protoss. :D

if you're the kong of kongs, does that mean you do actually sometimes win? :D 2014 year of BW!
They were basically talking about building up the fan base from the scratch again due to their star power and continue from there on. I think this is essentially building up a crossover b/w the old pros and current active ones in order to bridge them in BW 2.0. They were also talking about hosting "tournaments" with plurality so I'm guessing that this is to have perpetual effect instead of temporarily which I like.

I don't have anything that's fact but I've heard a ton of rumor about Goodfriend. People said he invested almost all the money he made from progaming into some kind of business and it failed miserably and it was rumored he was working at a construction site for a bit. And sometime down the line he went to army to do his mandatory military service and some guy on dcinside claiming to be a close friend of Goodfriend said that after he finished his service he was working at a convenience store.

Wow, if true that's pretty sad. This opportunity might be good for him, both emotionally and economically.

Thanks for subbing, Clefairy! You've brought so much Hong Jinho goodness to the world.
"We may be able to show 1 or 2 games, but if we keep showing our games, they'd throw up." and Yellow's smackdown of Reach being nice to Goodfriend's ego, LOL
It's going to be hard to pick who to cheer for between Yellow, Reach, and Ra...
Come on, I can dream to see some great foreigners too, but I suppose I'll never get my wish ;(
I always see the however many thousand watching Destiny on the home page of TL.net and I just facepalm and shake my head, then I click on one of the 10 or 20 streamers watching some godly BW player instead.... lol
Im so glad Broodwar is still a thing, even after all these years i can still keep watching it and enjoy it like always, even with the same players playing ontop of it. This announcement almost fills up the glass for me regarding the entire current scene .
Holy fuck! I can't believe this is true...... this will be awesome! I'm so happy with all good news in BW at the moment, hopefully even more will come!

Ive tried navigating through the site. I managed to open a video no problem. But no idea of the actual stream. Would be nice if someone can post a stream link in the OP when it becomes available so non korean speakers can access it.
If Yellow's plans for a future league work out, a league made for players by players might be significantly more responsible. I'd really like to see that happen.

I feel like there are probably some sort Kespa 2.0 in working for the current BW players. I hope they collaborate with Sonic and basically work up from there.

Uhm, this was Community Newsed, same as every other piece of news that we got from the BW scene.
I can't believe Goodfriend doesn't know what Fighting Spirit is. He must not have played or watched SC in years. If he's telling the truth I suspect he is going to be rather lost and mega-rusty, and he'll go 0-3 vs the group.

Yeah he was but at least he did practice enough to be somewhat decent. Judging by his game vs yellow (as I missed the rest T.T) he didn't practice much for this it even looked like he was searching for P when getting his first pylon...

The Monsteryzm stream page. Counter is almost at 105k.
thats total views. current is 34k and rising
...Which is what was said before. She asked for a source.
And this banter is hilarious.
There are two figures on the stream if that's what you ask. No idea what the second one is, I assume stream maximum capacity or individual viewers since the beginning.

Even if they are not good at fighting they are like 12 times bigger than a marine. I mean, seriously. Like you would let this shit walk around your base, like, you know, a pet or something.
Still a lightning speed reaction compared to Goodfriend :D
Ok, Ra with 3 archons. That could be 6 templars, but who cares about storm when you can spend all your gas into low range unit with a useless splash damage?

45k Koreans for a no prize pool event>>>23k for a well advertized tournament.
Also 45k Koreans are worth several times more to sponsors than 23k spread over the globe.

What? First of all the final four stream does not have 45k Koreans as there are foreigners watching it as well. On top of that there is also a Korean GOM stream that we don't even know how many viewers is had on top of the global stream which pretty much no korean watches.
I love brood war too, and this was surely an amazing event and the numbers in attendance and viewership have been awesome. But you really can't compare these numbers with GSL en stream numbers at all. Also I think BW and SC2 can coexist anyway, given that they have been able to do so for almost 4 years now without either one dieing.

Hopefully Monsterzym uploads them soon too. There were also MBC cameras at the event so bits of it will probably also be on YellOw's newest show "I Live Alone".

Really awesome event. Here's hoping to many more to come!
BTW: Has someone translated the ingame chat between nalra and reach? I'm really curious what they said - judging by the crowd's reactions it sounded as if it was hilarious.
This was an amazing event. I haven't felt this excited in a long time - and the conversation between Nal_rA and Reach was indeed hilarious. They were just trash talking one another, Reach saying things like "I got dark templars in your natural! Incoming!" and then later being like "Just kidding!" Nal_rA, after defending his army saying things like, "Please tell me you don't have another hidden army" etc. They were just talking really casually and it was just fun to watch overall.

Indeed, I couldn't stop laughing and grinning at their banter.
Something about this first generation of progamers still gets me in a way that the Flashes and Jaedong's don't. Their unit control is sloppy. Their macro is terrible. They are not playing a cutthroat game of who can play this game in the most optimal manner. It was so refreshing to watch these games where I genuinely didn't know what was going to happen, helping me to remember why it was so exciting to watch these guys play back in the day. Oh how far we've come from that point in time.. I can still remember Xellos vs YellOw in their final games on Bifrost and just having my mouth open the entire time.

YES!! The games were awful and sloppy but still ridiculously fun to watch! My eyes were glued to the screen, and every time a DT made a kill (cuz they had forgotten observers) or a reaver scarab would (obviously twitch out first) kill a bunch of scvs... it made me grin and giggle as I used to when I was watching SC 10+ years ago.
