GomTV stepped away from BW because Kespa killed it, GomTV has been with Blizzard since the BW days. Yeah.

Good idea by GOM. Hopefully they will put as much effort into it as they do with GSL. Guessing part of this is to measure interest in BW and part is to also encourage some BW fans to watch SCII as well so it's a win-win for them. RO8 invite only though. Hopefully they manage to get all the big names. I'm surprised that Jangbi was invited tbh. More so because he's supposedly still under KeSPA's control (hasn't left officially in their book) so hopefully that won't spark a battle between them. Adding Bisu and some other high level players will probably increase interest and would be highly recommended lol. Too bad we won't get to see either Flash or Jaedong but with their BW skills likely decreasing in the last 1-2 years, maybe it's for the best.

Can't believe they're putting Yellow in there? Sounds like a huge waste of a spot tbh, I can't imagine him being anywhere near the level of Sea or Jangbi. Great to see this happening though!

I'm pretty sure GOM stepped out of BW because only 5 teams were interested in participating for a season 4. Maybe there was some KeSPA strong-arming in the background, but it's just speculation unless there's proof. Considering that there were still KeSPA teams that were willing to participate makes me think that it's not "KeSPA forcing GOM out"

Plus, I think it's plausible for most of those teams to decline participation back then. MBC OGN and eStro didn't want to benefit their "competitor" (they didn't play in all 3 seasons), SKT and KTF were heavily focused on Proleague (SKT even limiting players from OSL/MSL before), and Airfoce ACE didn't allocate a lot of practice time to their players, which was needed for PL. STX I dunno tho lol

Yes and no.

KeSPA did not allow its players to play in GOM tournaments, but could not stop GOM from hosting BW events.

You can argue that GOM could have leveraged amateur and retired players (like SOSPA) and even foreign players to do an alternate league. Which is basically what they are doing right now.
