We of the SBWI writer’s team would like to wish you all a Happy New Year!! Normally, that means that it’s time for making resolutions!
Well, we didn’t make any resolutions, because making new year resolutions never seem too work. For example,
So kids, what did we learn today? New Year Resolutions are bad for your health. Don’t do them. But today, we’ll be making resolutions for players today!
Anyways, let’s move on to the clan wars and all that jazz.
The Games
game 1, Terror got wo against Sziky.
New Year’s Resolution for Sziky: Show up to matches.
Lrm 0-1 LagFree
Game 2 on Collo had Trutacz against Castro. Trutacz goes for the 12 pool, while Castro goes 12 hatch. Note that the players spawned in cross positions, so Castro already has a massive BO advantage. Trutacz manages to get a ling into Castro’s main to scout, but doesn’t get any drone kill. Trutacz goes for a ling attack but Castro already has mutas out to defend. Trutacz tries again, with Muta scourge attacks but gets repelled off from Castro again. The players start to gather mutas, skirmishing many times while Castro gets a 3rd base. Castro eats up a whole lot of scourges, but has +1 armor compared to Trutacz’s none. Castro gets successful ling runbys, killing few drones every time, while Trutacz wins the air battle since Castro doesn’t know how to micro. But Castro simply has too much mutas due to his better econ.

New Year’s Resolution for Trutacz: work on sneaky ling runby defense.
Lrm 0-2 LagFree
Game 3 featured Technics vs FbH on Outsider. FbH goes for the wall at the ramp into cc at his backdoor, and getting gas alongside that while Technics goes for the 2 hatch build. FbH gets mines and a wraith to kill Technic’s overlord, while technics gets his 3rd hatch in the natural. FbH nets 6 overlord kills by the time spire pops for Technics. Vultures gets dropped into the main, doing nothing with it, while Mutas start harrassing around FbH’s bases. Game goes into AFK mode where Technics goes hydra lurker and FbH looks like he has no idea what he is making, going for a composition that the AI would do. FbH slowly expands into his gas natural. At the same time, technics is taking every other possible expansion on the map. Finally Technics gets maxed and doom drops FbH’s main base. and basically overwhelming FbH, who doesn’t know how to macro at all.

Lrm 1-2 LagFree
Game 4 was Bonyth against Wapool on Overwatch, a PvP. Bonyth gets a probe kill with his scouting probe. Wapool is going 2 gate robo without range into expo, while Bonyth is going 3 gate robo with range. Wapool is somehow able to hold the first attack without range, so Bonyth takes his natural. Both players then go afk macro. a battle occurs in the middle of the map, where both players trade evenly despite Bonyth having 2 reavers to fight (He lost both of them). Another engagement occurs again, with Wapool winning the engagement despite Bonyth having again more reavers. Wapool then manages to overrun Bonyth with his reinforcements.

iWL vs IFu
Sacred is up against Cryoc on Oxide, a ZvT. Both players going for standards builds with Sacred going 3 hatch lair while Cryoc goes Valkonic. mutas pop out for Sacred while Cryoc pushes out with his forces, having 2 valks already. Sacred then takes his 3rd at Cryoc’s 3rd then skips lurkers to go straight into hive. Mutas finally pop into Cryoc’s main, forcing Cryoc to pull units back. Sacred then goes ultras while losing a bunch of mutas to Cryoc. The 3rd still remains unscouted for Sacred, Cyroc finally scouts the 3rd with his science facility, but Sacred already have 0-4 ultras and another 3rd going up. A battle ensues at the original 3rd, but Sacred is forced to back off and his 3rd goes down. Cyroc then attacks Sacred’s hew 3rd base and takes it out. Sacred then proceeds to throw more ultras away, and the game proceeds into Cryoc out macroing Sacred with SK terran.
New Year’s Resolution for Sacred: Sneaky 3rds only help for so long, gotta have a late game plan once you get to hive. And by late game plan, I mean defilers.
IFu 1-0 IwL
Game 2 on Collosseum II had Spx vs GameZZZ, a TvZ. GameZZZ goes for 10 hatch 12 pool, while Spx walls off his natural and kills off the neutral sunken. Spx then goes into Mech while Gamezzz goes quick lair, indicating mutas. GameZZ then throws macro hatch then a 4th hatch at his 3rd, while Spx gets fast vessels. Mutas gets a couple of scv kills, but doesn’t really damage Spx’s economy. A bunch of lurkers position themselves outside of Spx’s choke, forcing Spx to get tanks and siege. Spx then moves out with his ball and Gamezzz engages in the middle of thje map, with Spx coming out on top despite losing his vessels. Gamezz now gets ultra once his hive is done, while Spx drops Gamezz’s natural and pushes into his choke. Ultras now engage Spx’s forces and will clear the forces, but loses alot of ultras to irradiate. Spx takes out Gamez’s 4th, and continues to add more barracks. Gamez then proceeds to continue donating units to Spx while Spx continues to get all his vessels scourged. After coming out on consecutive engagements, Spx finally muscled himself into Gamezzz’s 3rd, and Gamezz taps out.
New Year’s Resolution for GameZZZ: learn to play standard zerg.
IFu 2-0 IwL.
Game 3 was Eonzerg vs Ace on Outsider, a ZvZ. EonZerg goes Overgas against Ace’s 12 pool expand. Eonzerg gets 2 drone kills early on with 2 snuck in lings. Ace then manages to bust up into Eonzerg’s ramp with lings, and nets 4 drone kills. Ace then nets even more kills when he sends more lings into Eonzerg’s leaving Eonzerg with only 3 drones. Eonzerg taps out, his econ damaged.
New Year’s Resolution for Eonzerg: it’s ok brah, you’re gonna make it.
IFu 2-1 IwL
Game 4 is a PvP on Overwatch, with Must vs Executor. Executor goes 2 gate range, while Must goes gate robo. Executor expands then grabs a forge while Must adds on 2 more gateways and gets robo tech. Both players do some small skirmishes then go afk macro for a bit. Executor then gets his 3rd going while Must fortifies the ramp outside of it with reavers and starts knocking on the 3rd with the reavers. Must took down the 3rd but was forced back with good storms by Executor. Executor then goes for hidden 3rd at top right. and He gets it up while Must takes the standard 3rd area. Both then try to proxy expand the bottom left, with both players getting cannons up there. Must finally scouts the hidden 3rd, but doesn’t take it out. engagement occurs at the high ground outside Must’s 3rd and Executor is forced back. Both players then engage at Executor’s high ground and Must comes out ahead with very good storms. A small hit squad hits Must’s 3rd, but doesn’t do much damage. However, Executor takes out Must’s 4th while Must still fails to kill Executor’s proxy base. After a big fight at the end, Executor comes out way on top and takes the game.
New Year’s Resolution for Must: scout better.
IFu 2-2 IwL
Game 5 on tau cross has our hero Marwin going up against Artanis, a TvP. Must goes for the FD while Artanis goes 2 gateway expand into citadel and robo bay. Marwin stays defensive and expands himself. Leg speed gets produced for Artanis while Marwin gets the close 3rd. Vultures sneak into the natural and nets a lot of probe kills for marwin. Artanis goes for the attack with zealot drops and dragoon bust but Marwin has good defense and holds it. Marwin starts to build a defensive position while Artanis goes for his 3rd. Marwin goes for an attack on Artanis’s 3rd but loses everything since he only had like 4 tanks there. Marwin takes a 4th while poking around with more vultures. Artanis takes his 4th. Marwin then goes for the big attack with his econ and breaks through.
New Year’s Resolution for Writer team: stop being so lazy.
IFu 3-2 IwL
Game 6 had Scan vs Fenito on FS where Fenito gets pissed that he is playing the real scan. Fenito goes for 12 hatch while scan goes for 1 rax fe into 2 rax acad with fenito going for 3 hatch lurkers. Scan moves out with his first 2 medics while Fenito has a lot of lings to go for the surround. But Scan micro too good and keeps his small force alive. It finally gets cleaned but scan starts to reinforce outside of Fenito’s natural. Fenito starts to slowly advance his lurkers out of the natural. Fenito trys to sneak lurkers into Scan’s base, but scan has 3 bunkers there to deflect it. Scan starts to push across the map, but defilers are now out to help defend. The close 3rd of fenito gets scouted while tanks keep sieging the lurkers at the bridge. Fenito’s 3rd gets taken out and scan drops the natural. Fenito taps out, saying “make taw”.

The Previews of next week
Well, week 11 doesn’t seem to be that important. We have Lrm taking on iM and quite honestly, I don’t see iM winning unless Lrm doesn’t show, which sucks cause I love my boys
. The other clan war features Sas. vs iwL, another unimportant matchup. Sas should easily win that, unless they don’t show up for games at all. Then again, iwL and iM can manage to mess up the rankings should they win, which puts some pressure on both Sas and Lrm to win their games. I was going to post more cool stuff in here, but the liquipedia page hasn’t been updated, so

One of the writers team’s staff member will unfortunately not be able to contribute to STL articles for awhile as he is moving to new apartment, meaning loss of internet, alongside many other things. I'm Gecko, currently some sort of news writer for the SBWI Teamleague, former staff at ICCup, bw.de and several other minor pages.
What's your impressions of STL, SBWI, the games, the maps, etc?

Let's start in a somewhat logical order; SBWI:
The SBWI seems to be a very nice project, even though I don't really know much more than the public about it. So far I've talked to / had contact with Jaevla, vOddy and Epoxide the most. It's a good thing to have and so far the guys were widely helpful and better organized than most other 'organizations' I had contacts with after the Beta. So, overall it's very positive.
The STL is so-so for me. Personally, I'm somewhat under the impression too few people actively follow it compared to all other topics going on. That's rather unfair at some point, especially since literally all clan leagues (except maybe the Nostalgia League) were quite shitty organized after 2010 - including things I tried to do myself.
Then again, who am I to judge? I just help to do the write ups, I'm not there when stuff is played out, when streams are set up, I do not cast, I do not do grafics. The write-up team is a bit chaotic, but you know that as well as I do.
The games so far ranged from really boring (ZvZ, all of them) to extremely good. My personal favourite was MARWIN and TAMA playing. I'm always super pumped to see good Russians play. Molodec brats!
As for the maps go, I like Oxide, because they brought plenty interesting TvZs and TvTs. They made Glio and vOddy somewhat more notable for me and annoyed a bit out of Justice, so that's fine.
Overwatch brought us many P mirrors, which I don't really like much. I have to give it to Must vs. Wallace for a good mirror, but that was more of an exception. I have no idea if it is the map design or the players so far, but it could've been better.
Since you made no restriction for maps, I really have to say I would've thrown out Tau Cross, Destination and Colosseum from the pool. I was active when that shit came up. Either go way more back into history and bring out odd stuff, or use newer things like Circuit Breakers, Sniper Ridge or some of that.
I was thinking for the playoffs that we use the new SSL 9 maps, Golden Cross and that other map. Have you got a chance to look at those? We also have a secret map in the makings as well for playoffs, did you get a chance to look at that as well
Not really, I was busy with real life stuff and I don't keep up with the Korean scene at the moment. Twitch lags like hell for me as long as I don't really put some effort into finding a solution via proxies, so... no. I have no idea about them, and I wouldn't use them right away, only because it's Korean doesn't mean it's perfect. Korea brought us shit maps as well in the past.
I heard about a new map from the same source you have, but nothing more. I have no idea who made it. I hope to god it wasn't a Shade smurf, because if it was, we would play a 4 mineral patch island map with 15 square pixel starting locations or shit.

What did you get for Christmas?
Lot's of house hold stuff I did not have or not have completely. Including cups. Cups are nice. I like cups. With cups you can drink coffee or tea or both at the same time, even though I don't recommend it. Besides that not much interesting things. I got to not write a news piece for SBWI in time without being batted, which is also nice. And I got to not last minute edit things for Gen (heart)
