it still is, it just isnt the optimal build for that building timing. 12 nexus is always going to be nexus at 12. the standard follow up is 2 gate + robo and 2 gates. if you deviate from that, its still a 12 nexus. heres an idea. if casters were to see a player build barracks at 8, what would they call the build? it doesnt matter whether the player follows up with a bunker or not, the casters are still gonna call it 8 rax. youre a moron User was warned for this post. | ||

The name of certain builds derive from specific games/periods when they came up and people involved in BW share a common concept of those builds. The term "8rax" is just coined to be used for what boxer did back then or some similar marine-SCV-cheese.The main points associated would be s.th. like "faster rax than usual for quick marine-push with scv-pull and bunker-pressure". Now you have a conversation about what the cpu does (which btw nobody talks about in general as far as proper build-orders are concerned), or let's say you come up with a new build that shares somethings like a rax on 8 supply with the well established 8rax. Of course you have a human right to call it 8rax if you have to insist on it, but you have to admit that in the current state of BW-language, that's confusing and nitpicking. I would support your kind of position in cases where it's about discrimination inherent in language or s.th., but I don't see the fundamental issue here that made it so unjust to simply call it "cpu 8rax" or something else. The 12nex example is off btw. 12nex means nex as first building (after pylon) on 12 and then, yes, whatever variation you want. But the cpu's 8rax missed the basic points of the common 8rax, that's why it's confusing to call it 8rax. A fitting example would be if s.o. build a gate on 10, and then cut probes to build the nex on 12. That would be a nex on 12, but not a 12nex as we know it. Then it would be sort of the same case as the cpu-"8rax" where it builds the rax on 8 but doesn't follow through with the appropriate, efficient timing but plays uber-save and goes into an M&M-push that would be stronger with a regular rax on 11. As for the casters: If a player build the rax on 8 but then didn't do the 8rax, you can be sure that the casters would go crazy about pointing out that it's not a usual 8rax, they'd call it an 8rax variation at least, and even though technically "8rax" is in there, never would they just say "yeah, that's an 8rax" - exactly because plain "8rax" is coined for something else. What evs, be nice and civil guys, or the big bad mods will come again with their hammers. | ||
