I just wonder if Legionnarie and Assem won anything or did anything cool when they were in Korea. And i heard that Grrrr got an OSL title, is that true?

And if u could name all the foreigners accept these that i have mentioned that have been to Korea i would be happy .

Tell me if they did anything cool too :D

Leg performed an all kill of Toona S.G. Other than that, neither one really accomplished anything (sorry, but sexy winking on television doesn't stand out as an accomplishment, even if it was that spectacular a wink).

Edit: Actually, Leg can say one more thing: he was the only foreigner to actually go through and pass the Courage League. All the other foreign progamers were invited to teams before attaining semi-pro status.

Grrr won alot more than that in Korea, he was a dominating player for a long time

Leg did really well in the Teamleague/Proleague

Assem beat AnyTime and Yellow on TV (he lost to Junitoss, TheWind, Savior, fOfy, ect in the Proleague though)

Grrrr and Elky both had outstanding careers. IMO, Grrrr really has the right to call himself the "first progamer," since when he started, there were no Korean proleagues or any infrastructure of any sort, and Grrrr was just a kid with a passion...a passion that enabled him to earn $75000 in 6 months off of tournament winnings (back then, there were no outside endorsements and there were no teams paying people money to play, win or lose, like there are now).

Elky was a starleague regular for some time before he finally fell from the scene, switched to random, and then left progaming entirely to go pursue poker dreams.

[GG99]Slayer was also at the early stage of things, before proteams were really established (although by the time his time came around, SC was already pretty hot over there in Korea), but managed to come out of nowhere and win KBK, which was arguably the biggest tournament of that era.

Rekrul didn't really do anything (and I'll probably get forum banned for saying that), but met up with Elky and then went all-out poker.

Nazgul didn't really do that much either (now I'm banned twice over), and went all-out poker as well.

Smuft didn't really do anything and I believe he also went all-out poker.

And so right now, our hopes rest on the backs of PJ, Lx and Draco. It doesn't look like Suncow will make it onto a proteam, especially after his fits of anger in SiZ) house (those people were nice enough to take him in and apparently he wouldn't take showers and when he lost games he would yell and throw things).

Leg:
All-killed Toona SG (Silver, Ogogo, TheRock - set a reaver kill record on TV here - and goodfriend).

Beat BoxeR and Xellos, almost beat nada.

Qualified for the MBC Minorleague, but got stuck in traffic and had to forfeit his game vs yooi (or was it vs sync?), then lost vs mumyung 0-2 I believe.

Got his license (semi or full pro? not sure) by placing top 8 (4?) in the - back then - 400 (or was it more?) man courage tournament.

Assem:
I don't know really, he beat Yellow and Anytime in proleague, had a nice game vs kingdom.
Dunno other than that.

Grrr:
Well, I'll just mention the easiest things since that's all I know:

Won the Hanaro Communication Tooniverse starleague, won the first OGN King of Kings.
3rd place WCG 2003
2nd place GhemTV 2nd starleague (or 1st? not sure) (2nd, lost to Oddysay - tkwl).

Elky:
Top 2 WCG 2001
Top 4 OGN Sky 2002 starleague
Made it into several other starleagues.

Nazgul:
Beat Jinnam on 'About starcraft' (twice, but one of the games had to be re-played because the replay was corrupted).

Almost made it into the GhemTV Starleague.
Beat Xellos in teamleague.

Made it into the OGN Challenge league, something no foreigner has done since. He did, however, lose 0-2, not playing up to his usual level (something which the commentators even mentioned).

Rekrul has retired and now lives for making young teamliquidians' dreams come true when visiting korea by showing them the high life of his adopted motherland.

So th people who WENT to Korean for gaming are

Grrr
Elky
Slayer
Nazgul
Rekrul
Legionnaire
Assem
Pj
Lx
Draco
Suncow

and the ones who got a license was..

Grr
Elky
Assem

maynard and pillars were in korea for a short time and i think thor was too (not 100% sure on him though). They were there only for like a summer if I remember right. Also asmodey was in korea for a little while but I don't really remember his accomplishments. DIDI, NTT, and ranger i think also played some games there but not completely positive on how long or if those games even meant anything.

should we really group Pj and Lx into the license category? I mean they got freebies from SKT1, much like Draco from OGN, rather than go through that hideous 512 man MBC tournament like Leg did.

Maynard, SuperCondumUser (yes... some 15 year old rich kid I think?), smuft also lived there. I don't think slayer ever stayed there except for tournaments (but so did everyone else who qualified for the KBK or WCG)?

And the other guys mentioned, Thor, Pillars. I don't know anything about them but maybe they stayed too :X

Ah yes, Asmodey qualified for one of the starleagues via some online prelim and went 3-0 in his group but then lost to garimto and someone.

thor and pillars were both there for some months
supercondomuser wasn't 15

slayer never stayed there cept for playing a tourney
(so in that case you could even mention me, I think I was there just as long as him if not longer actually. and everyone who stayed for wcg were there longer. )

What was that Rocks nickname back then, I read the reports lately and I don't think it was TheRock at least.

You're just one step from watching at least one Leg's VOD. You just need to follow this URL:

if you look in the "Vods taking requests" thread by funfluffybunny, it describes the contents of the Subtitles vod. That one has 3 legionairre vods in it, iirc.

One of the "great terran games" vods has xellso vs Legionairre, as mani says.

Since they are vod packs, they dont have Legionairre explicitly in the title.

I also uploaded a pack of VODs that Bard has done subtitles for (much <3 to him). It contains:

MBC League
Legionaire Vs Soo 1
Legionaire Vs Soo 2
Legionaire Vs Soo 3

Uploaded two new torrents containing games with great terrans:

First one has games from 2005 Sky Proleague round 3:
Nada vs Siva
Nada vs Jju
iloveoov vs Chojja
Nada vs Midas
Boxer vs Daezang
iloveoov vs Sunny
Xellos vs Legionaire
Boxer vs Zeus
iloveoov vs Casy

Hope this helps.

Lots of stuff happens that noone remembers or even knows about. Ie everyone knows the wink video. But i'm pretty sure that almost noone knows what it was from. That was the ITV team league. (2 players per team, bo3) JulyZerg and I played every single week vs the other teams (i think terato played once) I forget what order the teams were that we played but we took on Boxers team in the semifinals and won (i defeated Kos) , and made it into the finals before finally losing to Hanbit in the finals. I think i was 5-0 in that series at one point... funnily enough the day i winked was the first time i actually lost a game. P.S Hanbit cheated, (i think i lost to IPXzerg in my finals match it was an hour long game, Ipxzerg beat july too afair)

Overall my win rate vs p/t was good, i just sucked vs zerg, i think i only had a 50% win rate vs them. And with the disproportionate amount of zergs in progaming, you always take on 2-3 in prelims etc, with only a 50% winrate its damn hard to advance vs that. Damn those evil zergs

A few other X'Ds members went there too, if I remember correctly. The only one I can recall is killah, but I belive at least one more was there in the early days of progaming.

Has anyone mentioned Asmodey?

i watched an old old vod of him vs boxer (or was it one of the others?) and they were so bad back then. 2 pylons before gateway , etc builds.

"Killa".

And are you sure he went? I know him and X'Ds~Fire (as well as a couple others I cant remember) were great players in their day, but I cant remember anyone but Grrrr... going over from X'Ds~.

Also I think Zileas might have gone over. Theres a really old picture that might still be around of Grrrr and Thor in bed together with Zileas holding some condoms and laughing. Either Pillars or Maynard might be in the picture too, but i cant remember.

Good list, but Slayer never stayed in Korea. I don't know who G5 is but the rest are correct. NTT, oTTer, SuperCondomUser stayed.

And for who said I didn't do much.. T_T I played on TV atleast 6 games in about 4 months I was playing professionally. Qualified for challenge league, beat Jinnam 2-0 showgames, beat Xellos in teamleague. Sure it isn't winning the OSL but over four months it isn't nothing either.

Yeah remember oTTer, the French gamer who was in Orky, Also briefly NTT, who tried his luck with TillerMaN and those.

Nazgul was quite successful in Korea, but If my memory serves me right, he lost an important game against [Oops]Lee?

Quite a close game on LT, shame you never made a replay pack from your time in Korea and gamei games Victor T_T;;

Asmodey also played in KPGA(?), where he advanced to semis and lost to Yellow 0-3 (In one game where Asmodey had a huge lead, Yellow's PC crashed. Then Yellow won the regame and had a psychological advantage thus).

I played a showgame versus Lee. The show was focussing one known progamer per episode and during this show he would play one showgame versus an amateur. To also do something for the amateurs in their show you could come back the next week to play another famous progamer if you won your game. I beat Jinnam in the show they were doing about him and lost next week against Lee. He abused me to death after I was ahead first half of the game - 3v6.

As a starting progamer any game on TV can be called important, but out of all TV games it was the least important one I played. If you're interested in a replay pack I have hundreds of games saved on my HD just sitting there, I'm sure someone could make something nice out of that. If anyones interested in doing that just send me a PM.

Mostly sorting stuff out because it simply alot of replays of which many are also bad games and stuff. But I think I'll do it with Elsi sometime soon.

Eh, I have no doubts in my mind that you can beat me PvP - my PvP is a LOT worse than my PvT and PvZ.

I have no idea how good you are now so uhm, not going to comment on the rest. However, I am almost completely certain that I'm better than you at PvZ, PvT I have only seen you DT drop in (I haven't watched a lot of your PvTs obviously ) so no comment on that until I've seen more.

Ah, btw, we played 3 times, long ago in neo gamei. I was still playing TvP instead of PvP back then and lost 1-2

I was still playing TvP instead of PvP back then and lost 1-2

well i dont have the same pvt and pvsz than before also im not the kind of player who likes to post his reps so maybe because of that people think i only do dts because of the lack of reps posted of me playing

No, his rating is pretty accurate.

Yeah I'd say so too. He's a lot better than darki that's for sure ;-).

Well, I judged from you vs me and the americup games vs idra and artosis (I think?), but I only remember that you dropped dts in some of them (not all, but I can't remember the others).

you are alot better pvz / pvt FA. I dont think i have ever lost to Darki and you pretty much whipped me last time.

Just my opinion, but from what ive seen id take FA PvT / PvZ over Darki as the better player. That being said, Darki has won some nice games PvP and has a very good PvP afaik. So Darki would easily win a PvP vs FA and vs others as well, as Darki is pretty good there.

Having G5 in that list really fucks it up.

He's basically a random gamer who went to Korea and entered an event and lost in the first round, which anyone could do.
Maybe you give him credit for actually going there, but I don't see where any credit is due.

I don't know the guy, but I'm sure he's nice. His skill level alone just doesn't belond in a list of people who went to Korea.
SuperCondomUser on the other hand should replace his name there.

Well, there was a televized match statistics somewhere and name of Soul was there. Not sure about Dilvish, but i thought i saw his name in there. Giving that i remember back in the day Asmo asking whether anyone else from orky wants to go to korea this actually makes sense.

Nazgul I have the utter respect for you, and it's amazing how some people can say that. Of all the foreigners that went to Korea, my opinion is that Maynard, Smuft, NTT, Elky, of course Grrr... and yourself are the ones that did best, well I mean, got to count Smuft for amusing WDT and TLT 1. all you guys were (and still are) the best

As I posted earlier mr.X went to Korea to participate in the first (I think) KBK. He was the best foreign there and got top 8. I think you should put him on the list.

mdb: Mr.X (insomnia on war3) went there for an event, just like Slayer (who also played a showmatch against boxer on TV and lost 0-3).

He didn't stay there to try to play as a pro, if you put all the foreigners that went to play kbk, the list would be much bigger!

Yes, Thats correct.I am just saying that he should be in the list. If players like G5 are there, he deserves it much more. Also mr.X was one of the first foreign player to receive an invitation to stay in Korea as a progamer.
But basicly all the players who participated in kbk are on Elsi`s list.

We're talking about people who stayed in Korea outside of one week for a big event. Mr.X and Slayer have not done this. They qualified for an event and that is what they were there for. Substantial difference. Mr.X should not be in the list because he didn't choose to stay in Korea and live there on his own. If you want to list all players who played in Korea the list will become huge and alot less interesting.

Btw I also think Tillerman never stayed in Korea. Can anyone elaborate on him being in this list?

Like Nazgul said, it's not about how much you "deserve" to be on that list, it's about trying to go to Korea and stay there to become a pro. If he received and invitation and said no, well he shouldn't be on the list.

I don't know about Tillerman, was he part of the same group with Maynard and Pillars?

I remember talking with TillerMaN about his stay in Korea after I read an article about his brood war career, I think he participated in an event, not quite sure which one, could be the first KBK or some other tournament. All I remember from his stay that he never had time to practice but used all his free time to party all day and night!

Just checked on the web now, Iain, aka TillerMaN did participated in KBK.

KBK - Season 2 - Seoul, Korea
KBK - Season 3 - Seoul, Korea

These foreign gamers played in KBK, must of been season 2,

Grrrr..., Zileas, Kain, jolly, Mr.X, Maynard, D22-soso, and TillerMaN.

I think here's a proper list of players who tried to become a progamer,

Nazgul

As someone else said, if you are going to include people going for just KBK then you have to include EVERYONE who went to each WCG so I think it would be best to remove them as well as G5 who was there almost as a vacation it seemed and just did one courage league for fun.
