It's a fun title that means little in terms of skill, and you're simply trying to see if some obscure player was able to get the title at a given point in time. On the basic level, it's a chain of single games intertwined by a winner-take-all link. For example, in SC2: WOL, the last holder of the title was actually Bear (who?) who was able to beat Roro (I think) and suddenly not play anymore for the rest of WOL (except that they counted non-televised preliminaries which, in my opinion, shouldn't really count). Bear was easy. Look at the least above - Freemura was UWC for like 3 years...

just a thought Why? o_O You start with Championship. BoxeR's first Championship was 4th OSL - after Freemura, Grrr.... and GARIMTO. It's REALLY hard to justify that. It's like starting UWC in Football with Brazil - because Brazil's football is AWESOME - rather than Uruguay.

So no one knows anything about these early tournaments? ;(

I'M tired of computers taking my job, and bored, so why not continue?
+ Show Spoiler + Ruling: Does not count. The ZZGame Invite took place over three days, including OSL days, so I highly doubt it was broadcast. Also, it may have taken place before the OSL game, so I'm just going to ignore this tournament.

Lee defeats Grrrr... at Hanbitsoft OSL. Ruling: Grrrr... lost at both the OSL and Game-Q Starleague on the same day. It's probably impossible to tell which was first (does anyone remember the broadcasting schedules back then? Doubt it...) so I'm going to go with the OSL game, which is lower on the page. Note: Lee went out of the OSL at the same time.
+ Show Spoiler + Ruling: Does not count. A Bo3 played over a week? Yeah, no.

sigamari defeats Lee at Coca-Cola OSL

JinNam defeats Lee at Coca-Cola OSL Note: Damn, they used to spread these things out...

TaewoO defeats Side at 2001 KPGA August
8/24/01
[z-zone]SoO defeats TaewoO at 2001 KPGA August Note: The first Bo5 here, I believe...
9/12/01
H.O.T-Forever defeats [z-zone]SoO at 2001 KPGA September Note: SoO's last game O_O
10/14/01 + Show Spoiler +[tlpd#players# 910#Z]younggil[/tlpd] defeats H.O.T-Forever at KBK Jeju Intl Fest. Ruling: Does not count. A 64-player, one-day tournament in 2001? I highly doubt this was broadcast in any meaningful way, and I'm not really sure why it's listed as a normal event in TLPD when other "festivals" aren't. Also, this is younggil's last game (career record: 3-4), and I don't really want to declare him the all-time BW champion...
10/23/01
TheMarine defeats H.O.T-Forever at iTV Hot Battle Note: Listed as a special event, but weekly broadcast schedule and extant Youtube video implies it was live and broadcast. If it doesn't count, H.O.T holds the title until December!
10/26/01
GARIMTO defeats TheMarine at SKY2001 OSL
11/1/01
nO.1 defeats GARIMTO at 2001 KPGA November
TheMarine defeats nO.1 at 2001 KPGA November
11/21/01
GARIMTO defeats TheMarine at Lord of Best Race. Note: Again, a special event that seems to meet the requirements. Bo5.
12/7/01
BoxeR defeats GARIMTO at SKY2001 OSL. Note: I was starting to wonder when he was going to get it...
NOTE: This overlaps with WCG 2001. Boxer won that, of course, but there was a "National Tournament" also held; somehow, Korea went out in the first round. Does anyone know how that worked/who played? I highly doubt Boxer lost, but still...
12/28/01
GARIMTO defeats BoxeR at SKY2001 OSL (in the finals).
Well, that's the end of 2001. I trust you will find my results much more enjoyable then the cold, machine-generated results posted earlier by nimdil. Any BW experts see any issues?

If you started at the first ever OSl I'm guessing it ended up with someone who's playing sc2 or retired. Would be interesting to track the unofficial starcraft world champion if it went to sc2. Or just start with the first ssl champion.

I'm fine with any list that has Flash on it at least 3 times.
