I heard recently that kespa's regulations on ingame chat regulations (gg and pp only) were adopted in part because of boxer's use of chat to distract opponents. I thought this was very interesting and was just wondering if anyone knew more about this, especially what sort of things he would say! was it considered BM?

I believe one time he typed that his main was too small. I did not see the game, but I think his opponent interpreted it as a possible proxy play, which had adverse effects on the opponent's play and mindset. Plus, I think Boxer once also used chat to taunt, something like "this many tank, no?" or something like that.

I don't know of one between pro players but the "sex sex pussyhair" was when hwasin's opponent typed that on BNET attack (where the pros went to play amateurs on bnet).

I remember seeing a vid where some foreign zerg was playing a terran on bluestorm (z at bot right) and like 4 pools and right before he attacks he asks: 'from?'. The dude then takes time to respond and the zerg goes in right there and then to win the game. It was like a 5 min game at most lols (mondragon maybe? sen? ... cant remember but theres a vod on youtube. I tried searching but no luck)

Not really related to Kespa but a funny strat nonetheless

that was petzergling and it was the other way round. he was terran playing against zerg and he went BBS and asked "from?" right before he moved into his opponents nat. he beat an overpool with BBS because of that lol.

Did Boxer himself confirm that was the intention? If not then we'll never know (no matter how much you want to believe it).

Either way, everyone has the ability to chat. If you get distracted by it, ignore your opponent during games, happens all the time in sc2. I like the fact that many years ago, KeSPA had the balls to introduce such a drastic measure, all to protect the players and I respect that. These days, frankly I don't think there need to be rules for that, ignoring your opponents is a matter of two clicks, let the players decide whether they want to leave themselves open to chat or not.

Just, so the new guys dont think Kespa is all work and no fun, the rule apply only for official matches, in showmatches you can chat and troll each other all you want.

The players are there to try to win high level games for our amusement. The entire product is skilled games of Starcraft. That goal isn't served if the players are distracted by trying to out-mindgame one another in an amateur debate. You wouldn't see golf pros heckling each other on a hole.

If you want to see players chat, there are a thousand other products you can choose from, like ladder games, ladder replays, other tournaments, amateur games casted on Youtube, KeSPA exhibition games and showmatches...

IIRC, somewhere Boxer said he was just making a joke and the other guy just read too much into it. Boxer's cheesy reputation probably didn't help either ~_~

He typed "a" by accident. It's really common because you press a to attack.

It should be obvious he's making fun of the way the refs handled that situation.

I never understood the need to type "glhf". Only one player's going to have good luck in the game and he's going to have the majority of the fun. It's become so formulaic that it's lost its intended meaning and sometimes comes off as condescending or obnoxious - especially when they take offense at me not responding.

Saying "gg" is a lot better indication of manner because you acknowledge the other player's skill. It takes guts to type "gg" even after a frustrating loss.

Stephano glhf'd, as usual. The refs went nuts. You could read "What?" and "Seriously?" from Stephano's lips when the refs talked to him. :D
Fortunately herO was a good sport and typed gl too to prevent his disqualification.

Mind gaming is a part of almost every professional sport. The fact that it is denied in starcraft is disappointing.

Plus, typing messages takes away apm you could be using for other things, it can't be THAT much of an advantage

Isn't it "ppp"? Because I saw a game where one player had technical issues and wanted to pause, but just typed "pp" and after some discussion he got disqualified. But I'm not sure wich player where involved, maybe fantasy (the one who popped in my mind thinking about that) but I'm not sure.

If trolling means making your team lose (as if EG TL is not losing badly enough atm) then... yaa.. that's a good troll.

Mind games are great when they happen in the game. But it's not like you tune into a chess match to see them making funny faces at each other or insulting each other. The point of having professionals is to see what's the best humans can do against each other with the units in the game, not to watch them spam "u mad" at each other.

lol yes. apparently ppp is a calming and undeceptive way of asking or stating a pause in the game. typing only two p's apparently disrupts the time space continuum so badly that it not only disqualifies you from the match but also causes tsunamis, obesity and high crime rates in the US.

That happened one time, years ago. The rule has been changed such that the game is no longer treated as an automatic DQ. So I feel like your tirade is a little late.

Mind games are great when they happen in the game. But it's not like you tune into a chess match to see them making funny faces at each other or insulting each other. The point of having professionals is to see what's the best humans can do against each other with the units in the game, not to watch them spam "u mad" at each other.

Behiavior at chess board may vary greatly and acting skills/poker face may play a big role. I don't play chess but other board games and deceiving opponent by simulatng some behavior is part of the game. If you think everyone is always perfectly calm and quiet at chess tournament you are wrong.
Please be patient.

No, you don't. Instead, they just hire psychics at each other to distort brain energies and pass coded messages with yogurt.

"In 1978, Anatoly Karpov had a parapsychologist in the audience against his world championship match with Korchnoi in Baguio, Philippines. Korchnoi claimed the parapsychologist was distorting his brain waves. Korchnoi then hired his own psychics to counteract the negative vibrations. During the match, Korchnoi also accused Karpov of cheating by receiving different flavors of yogurt during the game. The different flavors were part of coded instructions that Karpov followed. The arbiter treated the accusation seriously and imposed a fixed time of sending yogurt to Karpov. The flavors had to be in writing from Karpov to the arbiter."

Should have banned yogurt entirely, when's the last time you've seen a professional event without yogurt? The reasoning behind it is that yogurt is hardly nutritious and blocks psychic energy necessary for the body's natural function
