Basically this thread compiles any non-tournament type events that Sonic hosts, like King of the Hill, Team Battles, and Super Matches.
Regarding these, I will not be covering these with the same level of dedication as I have been doing with the SSL, because of my own limitations time and energy-wise. I will post announcements of event matches that day and results, but I won't be recording VODs or watching these live.
If there are people willing to compile/record VODs, I will upload those to Youtube if they wish. But I won't be going out of my way to split the VODs or get the VODs recorded like I do w/ SSL. Regardless, I hope people can enjoy these games, as I'm sure they'll be tons of fun
05/02-03 Sonic Team vs Bay Team
Date/Time: May 2nd, 3rd 21:00 KST
Format: 6v6 All-Kill Team Battle format, played over two days for a Bo3 series. If series score is tied 1-1, an Ace match will be played to decide which team is the victor (the SPL 08-09 Playoffs format)
Format: King of the Hill, except with a slight twist this time. The starting match will be played as a Bo5 instead, with the winner of the series grabbing one win towards his kill count. The rest of the matches will play in a normal KotH format
Format: 4-team invitational tournament, featuring players from the itemBay SSL. 5v5 All-Kill Team Battle. 6v6 for the finals. Players can be sent out multiple times if needed.
On October 22 2012 15:14 jidolboy wrote: :o How is 5v5 gonna work out. I thought 8 player was max o_O
5v5 as in 5 players on each team. so it's a Bo9 All-kill team battle. My bad, should've clarified lol
Ahaha. I see. For a second there I thought they had developed some secret mod to support 10 players lol. Or even take turns playing for 5 minute just like they did in All Star matches
Considering the state of the BW forum there's no reason not to make new threads for things like this. Hell just appearing on the TL sidebar is good advertisement. Thanks for the heads up!
also "ex-pro" seems like a misnomer considering the number of players on the other team who are ex-pro as well... I guess these are all "ex-A-team pro"

pretty sure arvickhero wrote ex pro cus thats what sonic wrote haha it was titled as sonic allstars vs ex pro team
man I was so pumped when I was watching the vod "hmm what is the second map? I don't really recognise it, ERMEHGAWD it's wind and cloud CANT WAIT TO SEE PROXY GATE ON IT"
I'll let you figure out which part killed some of my excitement :/.
Super Match tonight guys, Sky vs Zergman announced. If we're going off past precedent, then it's gonna be a Bo3 lol .. and it kinda looks like he's gonna announce more matchups later but not entirely sure lol.
i managed to calculate balloons but im not 100% sure i may be wrong... so.. Lets say someone donate 100 ballons, so far from what i saw a player like larva for 1 day got way more than than, like 500+.. (yesterday at mornig when just go to sleep and end the day, someone donate to him 500 o0 so he maybe ended the day with 800-1000 or smth..)
So, 1 balloon = 70 Korean Won. 1 korean Won = 0.0007 Euro.
If someone donate 100 ballons that means 100x70= 7 000 x 0.0007 = ~ 5 euro for 100 ballons received ; 500 ballons = 25 euro, but i think they pay some little taxies like 15% to afreeca... So pretty much they earn money for 1 day as if they were working... So that's why most of them play all day every day.

Korean standard of living is lower, so they don't need as much money to support themselves. Some streamers also get disproportionately more balloons than others, like Pusan or Terror. Also a lot of these guys are doing this as a supplement to their main job, or they could be doing this as sometihng to kill time until it's time for military.
the "tax" is already accounted for w/ the 30% cut afreeca takes. Your conversion numbers seem pretty good lol

any details on Sospa Proleague Arvick ?
sospa proleague has been postponed due to 3-4 teams dropping out. sonic said he felt it was a bit of a reach to try to plan 7th ssl and pl and 8th ssl all at once. he said he wants to focus more on ssl for now

I certainly hope so

I don't know of Sayle's intentions atm, maybe shoot him a PM? It'd be cool if he kept doing it, but I think he got semi-traumatized by that 6-7 hour cast from the Ro16 Group B lol

updated, the TBA player against Mong was announced to be Minus)ZeLoT!!
If you guys don't remember this was the amateur who played 17 (!!!!!) games in the Ro32 because of all the regames. He almost knocked out Mong and showed off some sick aggressive zerg strats in the Ro32. Definitely a cool rematch for this Super Match :D
Idk who zelot (z) is but i'm guessing he is good enough to play vs Mong. (Update: i just saw arvick post wow then it will be really interesting) Killer vs Hiya Super Match can't wait. Need to buy some food i will enjoy it at max.
Seems like a 2 base mutalisk all in T making alot of turrets and scrambling to get to vessels ASAP
That is alooot of turrets maybe 6 turrets near the rax (standard play is like 2 turrets) lifting the factory already and making a 2nd port. Vessels come out. Irradiate is done.

I'm probably not gonna be at my computer when the sonic event starts tonight but I'll make /snipealot ready so a mod with access(most have access now) can set it up when sonic starts up. I assume someone will put on a FPV on /snipealot2 as well.
^That'll be cool lol, as always thanks for streaming
Tonight is King of the Hill, with some big prizes for those who can get a winstreak going ..
It'll be at op glow-, I think anyone can participate, but what's most likely is priority goes to SOSPA players and higher ranked fish players .. or restricted by ppl who can stream? dunno about the rules lol. Actually I'm not even sure how long it's supposed to go on either, Sonic is too vague ~_~

I did it now, you're lucky that I skipped my last 2 classes at uni
Btw, you can give access to your stream management on TL as well to a couple of trusted mods for assigning events.
I'm trying to figure out which match on Fighting Spirit this was, could someone read my spoiler? + Show Spoiler [match spoiler] +
I missed at least half of the match but here's what I know. It was TvZ (obv) on FS and the Terran spawned 7, zerg 2. .. I think.
It looked like the Terran was trying to do some slick SK action but all he really ended up doing was getting trapped with a marine-medic group and doing no damage. The Zerg transitioned out of muta ling and into ultra ling and overwhelmed the Terran.
Does anyone have any idea which match I'm talking about and who the players are? I wanted to rewatch it.
It took me less time to find it than it took me to write the post asking for help. You ever get really tired and extremely lazy? :p It was + Show Spoiler +

it was the last game of king of the hill Hiya(T) vs forcename(Z) where hiya opened with an 8rax bunker rush which got blocked and zerg transitioned into ultra long skipping the lurker phase and eventually taking all the expansions

There will be a Super Match with 200,000 won prize starting tonight with the Round of 8. Sonic is taking suggestions from his viewers for the 8 players, so participants are still unknown.
Edit: seems like Sonic changed the broadcast to a 6:6 Sonic All-Stars vs Tuna All-Stars match
I promise to update everything once the weekend is here
People can add events to the calender ezpz, pick up on my slack :D for SOSPA events, other Afreeca Leagues (BJ Gwangrae, Tuna Clan League, Neox clan league, etc etc)

I wuold do it, only I have no idea where I can get info on airtimes and such because of my non-existant Korean
Add me on skype KristofferAG and I'll just write you stuff there quick when I see it on the afreeca pages. Even though the organizers change the setups/players often even like 5 minutes before a broadcast, they usually don't cancel broadcasts.
That suonds good. Got you added now. A calendar entry is good whether it's with the wrong infor or not, as long as people are aware it's there.
So there's a team showmatch between Sonic All-Stars and KT.MGW (Korean Team Mega Web) tomorrow at 12:00 GMT (+00:00). 6:6 with a first prize of 3000 balloons. Should be up on the calendar soon.

200,000KRW first prize.
Edit: Note, sonic is still switching around players. In the time it took me to write this up he switched players once and changed the schedule twice. Edit2: And now he changed the mapcycle
Jeez, today? Noo time to even make an LR thread for that D:
I was hoping for another SSL, but I\ll take it.
LP article, using the same banner as we did in the last SRT. If anyone wants to mane a new on that'd be neat, considering that one says "the eleventh" and has the wrong player names.
^yes. So while clan wars by Tuna or Neox don't count, anything by Sonic does (I think. There's a post detailing about how SOSPA ranking works, but I'd have to dig it up)
a few thing on aliases
Progamer = MinHo Ever)P(Rich = Sea.Kh Pasta = Always KimEunHo = NTO'KEH, or NTO'Kara Peubal = Minus)Mighty
also from the looks of it, I guess Sonic is still keeping SOSPA Proleague in mind :>
he had like a teamleague sort of thing like a year ago or so (sorta similar to proleague), but he's been meaning to have a real Proleague type league where players have a salary and play regularly scheduled games. Unfortunately it was put on hold when apparently several sponsors dropped their support (he wants at least 8 teams)
As per usual Yesterday was initially KotH, but got changed. Oh, and I uploaded the VODs for them. I'm assuming you just want to cover SRT and SSL, considering those are the most important to get in high quality.
Jesus christ that took like 15 minutes. Snipe is asleep or otherwise occupied but I managed to bring snipealot3 up, and I think it's all good now. There's a first for everything.
seems to be a small tournament, today it's larva vs terran and sea vs hero. Tomorrow it's mong vs shuttle and beast vs movie. and btw it is bo5 supermatches maps: 1.Match point 2. Fighting spirit 3. electric circuit 4. jade 5.Fighting spirit + Show Spoiler +
ok guys, since I didn't see it actually posted anywhere in the thread, here's the info on this tournament:
It's titled the 2013 New Year's Super Match, so basically Sonic is throwing a mini tour (Ro8) to celebrate the Chinese New Year. Scheduled on consecutive days, so tomorrow is Ro4, then next day is Final
Prize money is whatever the amount of balloons donated by viewers during the run of this tournament, so whoever is gonna win better hope viewers are feeling generous with their balloon shooting heheh
I'm getting on vods now, gonna do them all then go to bed. Seems like they did a 3rd place match as well. Will update this post when I get the results!
EDIT Strike that, I'm dead tired. Going to bed. Will do it tomorrow, shouldn't be home too late then.
Final Standings: 1st Place: Shuttle 2nd Place: Movie 3rd Place: Sea
Tonight is Sonic All-Stars vs West All-Stars Dance Team! So a rematch of sorts .....
BUT!!!! There's a interesting twist tonight! Sonic has said that two current SC2 progamers, ParalyzE and an anonymous Zerg player, will be playing (BW) for this event!!!!!!!!!!!
Even if they (are most likely going to) get thrashed, this surely is something you shouldn't miss!

There was apparently matchfixing today done by dance team, screenshots appeared on sonics afreeca page showing bets on 3 matches done by dance team clan members. No more info yet but looks like sonic is on the phone with the police.

Sorry for taking so long with this, but when I work the dayshift I usually get home around 6, eat dinner, and lie down on the couch or watch a stream for a couple hours before I fall asleep. T_T
Anyway, I finally got the grand finals and 3rd place matches frmo the New Years Super Match mini-tour up on YouTube, they're in the same playlist as always.
KotH tonight, and opening match is ......... Iris vs Killer!! (cue *holy shit*)
And instead of being one match, it could be a Bo3 (not sure how that's gonna work within a KotH but ok lmao). Sent in the calender application but the time is so close .. I hope it gets approved T3T sweeeeet they approved it megafast so awesome :D thank you very much whoever it was ^^
Mind giving a quick translation of that? I don't understand what it means. Green is what they voted, or? I'm guessing Sonic All-Stars is on the right judging from the odds given.
Also Koth VODs going up in this playlist now, inlcuding Iris v Killer matches.
Sooooo there were some event matches yesterday, but I missed them I guess. It was KotH + Exhibition match featuring Iris. Caught a few matches just now, so I was able to get the maps for those lol
We got more expros coming out to compete, which is cool ^^ no VODs to link to, but if you wanna check it out it's running on Sonic's channel atm, probably for all of tomorrow too since there's no new broadcast by him tonight.

Looking at that image I would have to say the following 2 things occured: 1. There was no live sonic broadcast(overlay shows that it was a match from september last year) 2. The moderator who put the stream on set OBSProject to the 4:3 scene which doesn't really work for sonic
Edit: To avoid this problem in the future I have now removed the 4:3 scene from OBSProject, defaulting it to 16 : 9 at all times. The 4:3 scene was only really used for Gwangrae starleague, and it works fine with the 16 : 9 setup anyway(though with slightly reduced quality)
go to recently recorded vods on snipealot 2 and clicked around until you see larva observing games with best[white] in them (he commented games, as well as his screen seeing the APM of best and ladder[hush] and other opponents)
best played for like 4 hours (played against larva, played against others, maybe just ladder[hush] over and over, a terran) so it isn't a small window
also larva or had overlay of Doh Jae Wook vs Terran in korean alphabet at center

I was watching the stream and hoping this would end as fast as possible. I know rare spell and units are fun, but honestly after seeing it one time, all I can see is an horribly passive game :/
it's like a donation, viewer buy them from afreeca with real money, and the donate them to broadcasters, who can in turn convert them back to real money. Afreeca takes a 30-40% cut depending on your status.
viewers often give balloons directly to the streamer (typically 1-100 balloons, though sometimes if you give balloon you get chat privileges so 1 balloon just gets that) but it is also very common that a showmatch is done between either multiple people, king of the hill, a group of like 4, or just 1 bo5 or something, and the winning prize is the sum of the balloons donated by the viewers.
A large balloon amount like 3000 balloons (I think 1 balloon = 100 KRW, where ~1/3 goes to afreeca and 2/3 goes to broadcaster, but i dunno) is probably from the exhibition match earlier.
though sometimes people do get some large balloon donations, and I think there are vods of he-who-must-not-be-named (ma jae yoon) getting like a 1000 balloon donation (90 USD), and 1a2a3a[fou] going batshit over like a 500 balloon donation. Although that might be a 1 balloon donation for him too.
hence 3000 balloons is about 200 USD for movie
edit: I really should refresh the page before posting rofl

If there was ever an event match that deserves to be put up on VODs and featured in a news post, then it is this team game one. The last three days have provided some really incredible games. It almost felt like proleague : )
I hope someone with a bit more technical knowledge can put the games up and spread them, because that was some of the best post death (as in BW's "death") games I've seen.
I only caught the tail end but honestly this entire 'mini proleague' was kind of crazy. Eliminated players got as much as 2 more chances in some matches. Vod of todays match is up on snipealot3 as per usual, here is a direct link: http://www.twitch.tv/snipealot3/b/377608995

<3 your stream, only place i know to go to get good games to watch for BW.
Supermatches are on! Saw this posted in the other thread, but figured it should be in this one as well.
Supermatches are minitournaments for those not aware. There will be 8 players, and it spans over 3 days, usually. So that means 2 matches today, 2 tomorrow and the semis + finals on the third day, the 21st. All matches are bo5 with set maps. Winner gets all balloons donated throughout the broadcasts.

Yeah Barbarne hasn't realized that we have entered into the "2nd era". I am so sad I can't watch these matches. I'm thinking about casting them tonight if people are interested in watching them.
hiya had won that neo jade game forever ago once the 3 hat lurker totally failed, it's just that swarm + like 2 lurkers meant he couldn't push into a base for forever. larva had good defense but since hiya is actually good he was able to get ridiculously high vessel cloud and kept up macro whenever he lost marines
The issue with SOSPA power ranks is that the variance is really high and everything constantly changes.
(ie when Movie beat Shuttle 4-1 in a SRT but then loses to Shuttle in BJ Gwangrae 0-4 right after and in those same leagues, Hiya beats Mong in SRT and then loses to Mong in BJ Gwangrae)

As my quotation marks suggest, "death" is an ironic statement. But as always, irony is always lost on the internet. It certainly haven't died, it looked like it was down for a while, but not dead, as pictures from the SSL 8 group selection definitely show : )

I gotta say, Zerg does look somewhat weak in comparison to Terran and Protoss! This should be really sick, hopefully it doesn't get called off or anything lol
i wonder if the terrans figured out a response to shuttle's three base carriers yet
really really really looking forward to this
Both ZvP and TvP will be good shows, but I fear it might be a little one-sided for TvZ.... see as how killer and larva both lost 3-0 to mong and hiya respectively

Flash build should work perfectly against Shuttle three base carrier strategy...
I'm now thoroughly convinced that Shuttle uses mineral hacks. How the hell do you go 2base carrier and still have enough ground army to attack the terran's natural.

Today is the Race Wars Final! We have all three races playing this team, and they're gonna be taking turns. Initial matchup will be chosen via randomizer, and the winning team will stay while the losing team gets swapped out by the other race. First team to five victories will be declared the winner!
Theoretical example: Mong vs Killer is the first matchup, and Mong wins. Then Team Protoss sends in Movie. Mong wins again, and then Team Zerg sends out Hero, who wins. Then Team Protoss will send in a player, etc etc.
Date/Time: April 10th, 11th, 12th 21:00 KST Format: 5v5 All-Kill Team Battle. April 10th is MBC vs SKT+KT+STX. April 11th is Hwaseung vs CJ+Amateurs. April 12th is the finals.
Only day off this week but I need to spend at least an hour painting the kitchen, which kinda needs to be done... now. I even bought some micropop yesterday so I could watch an entire SOSPA stream for once T_T
Right, I just got home (and I need to sleep) so I don't really have any time to update stuff in the OP .. I just made a note of it on the header, and I'll update things accordingly when I have time ..... thanks for posting the info, and submitting to calender!
Yeah, I was busy this week so I couldn't make any LR threads. I was hoping someone else would create them, but I was disappointed to see BisuDagger only managed to make one for the finals :/
I don't know why are you people so hesitant to create one. Reading through the finals super match LR thread today was awesome and you really get the feeling of how the games went if you missed them.

Team battles for today and tomorrow, the usual 5v5 AK format. We have Sonic and Bay (after itemBay, SSL8 sponsor) Teams, and they'll be playing like the SPL 08-09 Playoffs format where each series will count towards a Bo3 score, and if it's tied a single Ace Match will be played to decide the victor

2 Bo7, in case 1-1, there is a single Ace Match to decide. Will the Bo7 be PL format or Winner's League though ?

I wasn't sure how to interpret the last sentence... Please someone tell Sonic PL format>>>>Winner's League ! And nope, Zelot ak incoming
yea, sorry I didn't really know how to explain it very well so I just alluded to the SPL 08-09 Playoffs format and hoped that would help fill in the gaps. Except its 2 Bo9 All-Kill format, not Bo7 PL format (which I also very much miss ]: )
I have to go now. From the games I watched I recommend watching game two of Movie vs hero on New Wind and Cloud. Game three on Match Point is a must watch, Movie and hero are extremely evenly matched in PvZ.

this is a 'ranking tournament' not an ssl. It's a smaller seperate competition of 16 invites that feeds into some sort of ranking system that sonic runs. Totally unrelated to ssl8 except to note that killer and hiya aren't playing in this srt, presumably because they're preparing for the finals.

30mins, fingers crossed for leta and snow, does anyone know if they have been streaming on afreeca? or something? Cause leta was taken off the team quite a while back, so if he has been focusing on bw, someone should have seen him or at least know he's playing again, right? please be so
i think we missed the first game, not too sure, i just know i came in 15 minutes late and score was already 1-0 1) zergfight (1700 zerg) > somebody 2) zergfight > mong 3) zergfight < scat._.v (1500 terran) 4) starcue < scat._.v 5) tyson < scat._.v then i lost track of it, i guess ssak lost next (not sure), then hero won and then movie won

It wasn't really our fault either. snipealot3 was offline for first hour and snipealot2 was showing Larva which I had no idea if it was part of a team battle since he played against Movie according to the chat. Also, without knowing Korean it's hard to figure out who's playing, especially names of amateur players.

I think it's ZvP. If Zerg wins they play a match against T. Whoever wins that match plays against P? First to 5 wins is the champion? That's what google translate gave me but I could be very very wrong

SonicTV Round of 8 Stream Cheat League Day 1 Tuesday, Feb 04 12:00pm GMT (GMT+00:00)
A round of 8 stream cheat league for AfreecaTV viewers hosted by SonicTV and casted by Kim Carrier and GoRush.
Viewers will pay a fee in balloons (e.g. 200 balloons) to participate in a total of 7 games a day once a week.
The winning amateur player goes into the SonicTV Hall of Fame and once a month a special event will be hosted for these.
....
I don't know if this can go into events since they're supposed to be decent prizepool/participating players. I dunno if there are any ex-pros or it's just going to be viewer vs viewer.
