I rember reading about all the different versions people had for these a while back. Apart from novelty, what's so 'worth it' about them? To sound funny?

I found the korean sounds by using google translation. I translate "starcraft korean voice" and paste the korean text in google and found this blog. there is a ver10.exe file about 100MB without knowing what is it and dled, run it, install (a korean program like wlauncher) the sounds into my SC folder and tested everything is in korean, so lucky its not a virus -_-"
I think its a fan made sound thats why it says version 10. but overall its done professionally I zipped the sound folder and reupload the found. Korean sound pack

Could anyone who's into antivirus protection and shit confirm this is safe? Sorry to mistrust you, but 1 post and everything... If it's true then 100x YAY!
Edit: Oh, it's just .rar with .wav files so I don't see anything fishy there. And the sounds are there OMG and it's really korean!!! Thank you so much man :D brb enjoying this ingame

These kind of sound like sc2 unit sounds.. o.o well, for zerg atleast
I'm fairly certain the Korean sound effects are from SC2 - if you open up the folder and take a closer look, you see folders for the "Phoenix" and other SC2 units. At this point I'm just too accustomed to the Japanese sounds to switch, but I guess it's still a nice option. Some of the units really sound weak though, like the Zealots. I guess that's more of a whole "SC2 vs BW sound effect" kind of thing, rather than differences between the language per se.
I'd like again download the japanese sounds but it seems that all the link are not working any more. Could someone who have it still, reupload the pack somewhere. Thanks beforehand.
Sweet, I didn't didn't know this thread was remade/updated. I get people in my stream chat asking about my German sounds often enough and the links are almost all dead in the other thread.
so, curious as to which one of these sounds are interesting to listen to? I can see Japanese and Korean being really interested except the Korean is for SCII from the posts above^
You don't need to replace anything inside the MPQ? From what I remember you just replace the Sounds folder inside your BW directory with the one the download from the OP.

ehhh I don't know what yours looks like then. When I download BW from iccup it comes in a folder called "starcraft" and inside that folder it looks like this:
Then you put the files from the OP in the sound folder above. I dunno what's going on if yours doesn't look the same as that o.o
When i changed my sounds i didn't have the sound folder either and i used mpq editor to extract the sound folder from the mpq and then change files in sound folder

I used the BW Sound Utility to create a sound folder, and ive replaced some of the soundfiles but it has no effect, i still have the normal units sounds, why??
This is just from my memory going back about 10 years, but I think you need to match the same bitrate and hz in the wav file for broodwar to play it. Test it out by replacing one sound file for another (put probe sound instead of SCV and see if it works)... if it works then you need to make your wav file have the same audio properties as the original (bitrate and hz).
Sorry can't go into more details because I don't remember much about it, but try that
I did the same thing that ICanFlyLow did and got the same error, the game just don't recognize the files. And changing the Zerg with Terran ones extracted from the game don't cut (with proper renaming of course), so there is nothing to do with bitrate and hz in the wav file.
I'm trying to make it work with the SC Anthology patched to 1.16.1, I don't know if it is because of the anthology version or not. Any clue?
it should be on wav file, it doesnt matter if you have your own voiceovers for as long as the new vos filename will be similar to the old one and once pasted on the sounds folder it will overwrite the old one.Try it.
I wish the Battle.net language selectors for Brood War and Warcraft III implemented the existing Japanese versions of the games to their current digital library of localizations.
elmerpogs as I said, does not work with the SC anthology. I extracted the sound files, copied the drone ones to the SCV folder, renamed then and it didn't work.
You doin smth wrong i am using anthology ver and changing and makin new sounds versions like 1 time per week and everythin is ok. Show print screen of folders and files tree
Installed using Blizzard online installer, manually patched to 1.16.1, downloaded the sound utility from Blizz Classics page and placed it in the BW folder. Had to run the sound utility as an administrator for it to write in the folder and after that I replaced the files using the one posted in page 1.
Did I do something wrong?
Also I'm testing the change in custom games in the SP menu, is it the right place to test it, or it only works online?
Are you sure u have oly one copy of sc bw on hdd ? Are you sure you replaced files with same format *.wav files? What about remove or rename this Sound folder and try to download just another Sound language version and then replace files what u wanna. U will be know then is it problem with SC if another sound pack dont work or is just problem with your files, if another sound pack work but your files dont.
I already tried only using one of the downloaded soundpacks. Also isn't a problem with the sound file. It doesn't work if I copy the drone sounds to the SCV folder and rename them to match the scv soundfiles names. The is only one installation of StarCraft 1 in my HDD,
