He practices both BW and SC2, right?
Wasn't he planning on going into the military instead of playing SC2? At least that is what he said in his last interview. Apparently, he reconsidered doing SC2 after getting demolished by ForGG off-racing as Zerg. He has complained numerous times that he isn't very good at SC2 and the transition has been harder than expected.
But I dunno. I haven't heard from him since that last interview. Before that, he said that if he does play SC2, he would prefer to play on a KeSPA team, but the interview seemed to confirm that he had given up on transitioning into SC2, unless he has changed his mind since then.
Has Hiya been playing SC2 as long as ForGG has AND been practicing in a SC2 house? Of course he was going to get demolished!
HiyA has been streaming Brood War on Afreeca virtually seven days a week since November (even on Christmas day and NYE). I've never seen or heard any mention of him playing SC2 since that retirement interview and I don't really understand how he'd find the time.

Hiya's retirement interview (read: no one signed me, so fuck this) shows that he was playing SC2 for a bit, and quickly rose in the rankings after catching his footing, but then he said he sort of gave it up after a bit.

I think you misread what he said.
Kjw said that he has been playing BW very consistently since November, not that he never played sc2.
In addition, Hiya really is streaming BW on Afreeca a lot so factoring in sleep and other basic functions, it'd almost be impossible for him to practice much sc2 anyways.

I think this time, the best storyline one can ask is for Hiya to win the OSL. A teamless guy winning OSL, surely will inspire a lot other progamers that it is not exactly necessary to be on a team to win a league. Although this might reset the training in a team environment but in one we will be back at square one. Then to build the scene again from the bottom upward.

Everybody is talking about "OSL" and not "Starleague", so we should also write it down like that. Just my opinion of course.
Lot of ppl thinks Starleague refers the individual leagues, the only starleague is the OSL, because OSL stands for OnGameNet Starleague while MSL stands for MBC Game Starcraft League ^^

I believe this follows general group stage format. Every match is a Bo1. You have the first 2 players playing set 1, then the second 2 players playing set 2 (both on Ground Zero). Then winner of set 1 players winner of set 2, and loser of set 1 plays loser of set 2 (both on Electric Circuit). Finally, the loser of set 3 (winner's match) plays the winner of set 4 (loser's match) on Gladiator. The winners of Sets 3 and 5 advance.
