So I'm wondering what these penalty points are in Proleague, and what their function is. From what I've been able to tell with no understanding of Korean, you earn penalties for doing things such as exiting a game with a phrase other than gg. Other than that, I have no idea how they function, if they negatively impact ranking or cause some sort of consequence if too many are earned.
From the English KeSPA site: Proleague Penalty Points Calculation Standards: 2 [Cautions] = 1 [Warning] = 1 Penalty Point
According to KeSPA, so far in 11-12, there are 2 warnings, one happening on 11/29 and one on 12/17.
The first happens in this game between Crazy-Hydra and Killer. notice how Killer gg's at the end.
The second is for a reason I can't seem to figure out. Google translate leads me to believe it is something due to a delay of game, but I can't be sure.
The second warning is for SKT, for being 25mins late for the match on 17th Dec. I guess Kespa requires teams to report at the match venue by a certain time and SKT was late.
their response afterwards was pretty cool though, they made fun of themselves in an event allstar match by having leta parody the situation acting all pissed and stuff felt happy that they admitted they fucked up pretty badly like that

so they knew it was stupid and corrected it by changing the rule a bit
ps. I'm quoting way too much today, read the whole thread guys! ^^
STX? Anyone? Just me? Oh well TT EDIT Oh wait you said enemy, I thought you mean disliking of Man, I remember watching the vod of Kal vs Leta, and Ruby vs Flash I almost pulled out my hair seeing what happened, and how Ruby wouldn't be given a rematch, and the pp Atleast it gave us a little something to laugh at last years All Stars
In my honest opinion. Having strict rules could be beneficial. I mean what if, JUST WHAT IF, those unforseen events like leaving the lobby, or ppp, or whatever; They are signalling someone and the player/player involved are in league with match-fixers. Not implying that Ruby or anyone involved in those events in the past were actually matchfixing but it's not really a far-fetched thought.
Hell, Savior fixed matches and he was good and had money compared to the current lower A-teamers.

Wow, if only the LR threads of today were anywhere nearly as nice as those. It is only 15 pages too! I wish I had found this site earlier than I did, anymore it is crazy in here. Already past 300000 threads.

BW LR threads has always been this way, just nowadays it's a little crowded.
SC2 LR threads on the other hand is a different story altogether.

yeah man I totally agree. Gotta watch for those signals real close. TWO flash twitches means he's going to do a blind 14cc; but THREE twitches means he is going to play legitly. Also dying your hair yellow means you arranged for your opponent to two-gate you.

responses are hostile because match-fixing is a delicate subject, and any allegations or hints of allegations are serious business D:
Leta/Gorush type brazen player abuse is behind them. Actually, it was a pretty brief period when they had those strict rules. There used to be basically no chat moderation and multiple ear/eyehacks before soundproof booths (and some even with them). They went too far in the other direction with regards to pp and gg (although if you gg wrong, nobody cares since you lost anyway). We're basically back in the sane world and any KeSPA hate will either have to do with free agency or just people not being able to bury the hatchet. Team 8 exists. I think KeSPA is doing a fine job.
Nobody cares, but the penalty points can still make a difference in the standings. I remember seeing somewhere that CJ would have been in an entirely difference place in one of the proleague playoffs if they didn't have a penalty point (which sAviOr got them, I believe)

Ruby wasn't that far ago. Surely that's not far removed from Leta/GoRush?

As a Ruby (ACE) fan I was really looking forward to yet another clash between him and Flash, but shit happens. There seem to has been an increase in general tech malfunctions lately in BW, and I think they've all been handled with grace, the calling of ppp included. If you don't count a loss for someone leaving the game after it's started, here's what will happen (it won't happen often, I'm not trying to make a slippery slope, but it'll be possible that this happens): fantasy is up against someone in OSL final again and iloveoov has a day off from the military. He says hey fantasy, do a fake disconnect during countdown. Tell them it was an accident. Jaedong will flip his shit. Both players have a right to know what to expect from refs during a match.

Why would Jaedong flip his shit because the lobby needs to be rehosted? RMSN isn't really going to freak anyone out, is it?
It's hyperbole. The point is it has a nonzero effect. Things outside of the game that aren't supposed to happen fuck with players in high pressure situations. Flash from the power outage is the most obvious example, but maybe not the most salient. In 12 years, one guy accidentally escaped from the lobby. And as per the rules, leaving the game is a loss. Compare Ruby to all the people who have been and can be effected by malfunctions and the pause rules. Even if the Ruby decision weren't unfair, it doesn't matter much because I guarantee it's the last time anyone will ESC from the countdown.
On January 04 2012 18:55 zobz wrote: ^What exactly is it that happened? Leta typed pp correctly.
He wrote pp instead of "ppp", KESPA disqualified him and gave the win to Kal.
They later changed the rule to typing any multiple of "p" allowed for requesting a paus.
that was so fucking retarded
even more stupid than when someone is DQed for accidentally typing "a", or accidentally pausing the game. i cannot fathom how stupid people can be, especially cos "pp" itself means "pause please". also, let's monitor blacked out, how was he meant to know what happened?

I sure it is. That's why there is a big 'what if'. It happened before so what are the chance that it won't happen in the future? I am just saying that these circumstances can be used for devious agendas.
And, like I said, I wasn't implying that the players who were involved in the said circumstances were actually match-fixing O.o
I miss players being able to chat during the games. At the heroic time, players would often say "hi" "hi" when their scout would meet half way through the map. That kind of things brought warm and humanity to the game...

Woah. That is older beyond what I've ever heard of, at least. Lol.

Or because he's saying that disqualifying Leta for a 'pp' or GoRush for an 'a' is even possibly ok because match fixers would use the least subtle and most publicized communication channels possible - one that is also clearly recorded. Of course that begs the question how they knew about the signals in the first place (one would assume they were able to send this message out without the use of national television), and then say it's not a far-fetched idea. Yeah, he might be high.

Happens in all the show matches like the ones before PL finals. Wish they'd have more show matches/tournaments, haven't had a good one in a long time.

I really like how strict they are about (no) chat, and would like such level of strictness to be reinforced in all serious tournaments, in SC2 as well.

I'll go one better, this is the game that got chatting taken out:
Apparently, Junitoss (who had nerve issues) got freaked out when boxer said "my base is too small T_T" and scouted everywhere for proxies etc and eventually self destructed.

I remember this too, best one I saw was back when Stork was good (?!), I can't remember who it was but the player, I think it was T, was winning and in the chat went "Mom, I'm beating Stork!!!" and everyone in the audience and the casters freaked out. Best part was, if my memory serves me right, that the game wasn't entirely over so there was still a vague chance of a come back - it was a really ballsy move but it worked out and the player won the game, such things used to add at least some personality to the more crazy players.
Edit: Wow pretty much everything I wrote was wrong, lol. I found the VOD, it's Sea vs Stork in the '08 All Stars Games, in which chatting was allowed, so not really that old. Oh and the game really was over as well. To add insult to injury, there wasn't that much of a ruckus when he typed it either. Oh, memory, why must you be so much better than the reality? i like junitoss' 15% winrate. guy was the biggest dud of broodwar imo. should have just stayed as a practice partner.
why must chatting be taken out just because of the weak minded? T_T

Junitoss seems pretty good compared to the true failure of BW. The biggest dud of Broodwar will always be PokJu.
Watch the VOD of his final proleague game, if you dare.

I was going to ask if Boxer was the one leading the charge to get rid of talking because I couldn't imagine Boxer bm'ing. But I see it was more the mind games he played. Man, you got to love Boxer's creativity in using his available tools.
This all reminds me of good olde Kang Min! No matter what he does, I like him...
I always loved his face right after he failsauced. Like, he looks like a puppy dog that got caught doing something stupid and everyone else looks mad as hell. =D
