My opinion is that the APM-romanticizing culture of esports is preventing the devolopment of ergonomic input-methods and UIs. Managing an unergonomic UI is seen as a part of the sport. Effective macros and solutions such as the 12 button mouse Razer Naga need to encouraged and not seen as cheating. The more input-intensive tasks that can be automized -- automatic marine splitting, making qued production equal to unqued, etc -- the better for long-term ergonomics and the more sustainable SC becomes as a career choice. The alternative is this.

I wish I could draw. I wanna draw: Splitting SCV at the beginning of the game, but instead of to mineral patches, to parts of Flash's arm/wrist/hand and repair it with the 50 minerals.

Plenty of SC players play for years without problems, and you rarely hear players withdraw for this reason. Yes, I know no one hear about B-teamers, but the percentage who has this problem among players who actually play in the PL/SLs is still quite slim.

That said, I do like your idea that automizing is good. However, the other side of the coin is that it likely can't apply to BW, because there could be issues with racial balance.

So I'm really chalking this one up to either this being a problem with Flash himself, or that his team really does over-work him so much to cause this injury.

IMO it's all about his posture. I'd rather see more education (perhaps make it mandatory?) for progamers geared towards proper posture and rsi prevention. There are many SC players who are faster and have been playing longer than Flash without these kinds of injuries. Though I have also read that some people might simply be more prone to these types of problems than others, similar to having a greater risk for heart disease and such.

I'd much rather have players educated on safety rather than have them dumb down the game.

I never understood this argument. The big reason why BW is so good is not because it's mechanically hard, but because since it is mechanically hard, you have to prioritize. In BW you can't do everything perfect in the same game. For instance, it's very easy to storm like Jangbi if you use like 5 hotkeys for your templars, but then you'll have to sacrifice other things. If you look at Flash, he's not known for being harrassive, but he have shown in many games that he can play like that too. Flash however have chosen to prioritize macro and unit positioning. Best is kind of the same. Seeing him use reavers is very rare, probably because he feels that he can't be the macro beast he is, when microing shuttle+reaver at the same time.

I dont really know flash besides what you eventually read here. But it's obvious that, when you play 12 hours a day, in the same posture, with the same movements and the same amazing speed, your muscles have to cramp sometimes. And when you are too addicted / pressured to stop playing, it will get stronger and stronger until the point of breakdown, which Flash obviously would hit in the near future without a break.

Ummmm, What makes SC so good to watch and play is because of the mechanical challenging. If everyone can do what the pros can do whats exactly is the point of having a "professional gaming"? One thing that makes BW soo great is how professional can multitasking,macro, micro and etc better than most of us.
