btw why do some of you guys hope that certain BW players/retired players will switch to SC2? It's pointless wishful thinking...most of the brood war players that want to switch already have. Unless your only a practice partner or play very badly, it's kind of hard to be a regular brood war progamer and think "oh I'm going into SC2 after I'm done with this" at the same time. It's really difficult to be a good progamer unless all your attention is into one game or the other.
Because we love watching great players play Starcraft 2? And we all still actually play SC2, whereas I'm sure far fewer members here still play BW. (And in general there is actually a foreign SC2 scene, and 0 foreign BW scene, so that drives a lot of interest and desire for GREAT competitions.)
And many, I'm sure, find it more fun to watch and play at this point.

Dangerous precedent: will other BW players not play sc2?

I'd rather have him just be known for BW only. But that's just me.

hoping that brood war players will switch over to SC2 makes it look like SC2 players just want to artificially increase hype and attraction by borrowing stars from another game. you should be encouraging your community to produce big-name players from the bottom up. that would make SC2 more exciting to watch.

I'm sure it's absolutely impossible for old BW vets to enjoy SC2 and want to see their favorite heroes in 2 when they're done with BW too right? FFS I don't understand why some BW4lyfe fans always try to split the community like it's impossible to like both. All my old BW friends watch SC2 now and we talk about it a whole lot more than BW (when it isnt finals time) since the scene is pretty dead outside Korea. Of course we'd like to see heroes who retire from BW back in the spotlight. It doesn't "taint" anyone and that attitude really needs to stop. There's absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to see guys you grew up watching show up on a global scale where new people can enjoy their games too.
I can't expect a Flash or Jaedong in the US again since WCG is done with BW (for now at least) but I sure as hell can see Boxer, July and NaDa at a Dreamhack or MLG. How is that not reason enough to want favorites switching over after BW? But no, it has to be something snotty like trashing the scene you don't like and insulting them for even thinking about liking the same heroes.
(Sorry, been wanting to rant on this forever.)

Dammnit! fuck.. >.> this is not exactly the best thing i've seen in a while. I really wish he'd do what the other old-school pros did though and switch to Sc2, maybe join SlayerS and so SlayerS has a strong terran, protoss, AND zerg =P

(Sorry, been wanting to rant on this forever.) for starters, if they do bad in sc2 then ill just be sad. secondly, it would make it seem (imo) that bw is the better game if players not good enough for bw keep switching to sc2, so to give sc2 more credibility, i think it would be best for bw legends to just retire. what makes you think anyone has anything against sc2, i have many friends that watch and play sc2, i personally dont enjoy it (i played 500+ games in the first month it came out) so i dont like, nor hate sc2, i just think nothing of it. when the expansion comes out ill play it again, if i like ill switch over. im not the type to follow something just cause everyone is, out of all my friends only im left following bw, because i actually like the game, not because i want it to succeed or because i want esports to succeed.

But that is not the point, I hope yellow does well in pursuing whatever he does from here on up. Yellow fighting!

With all the sc2 switch talk in this thread, I SINCERELY hope that Bisu/Flash/Jaedong/Any A+ teamer switches soon.
Then they go on to rape sc2 kids, i.e., making the likes of Nestea (LOL zergbong) look like the terrible noobs they were back in BW.
I just can't wait.

While I don't mind the talk about whether or not Yellow should switch to SC2 let's not devolve this thread into arguments about which game is better than the other.
|
But SoMuchBetter... Game A is SoMuchBetter.
Sorry I couldn't resist. Someone with that name saying can't talk about what game is better haha. Just kidding though another place.
I hope what ever Yellow goes to do he finds success. Was sad to see him never reach the Gold. Hope he does in life outside of Esports!

I'll love you forever, Hong Jin Ho. May you succeed wherever you travel. ;_;
I'll create a proper blog post when I am sober.

Wow...
Reading his post made me think about my own life about 7-8 years back...
Playing on dial-up internet, watching replays and trying to play on West server with Korean players...
Ah it's just too weird lol. I understand how he feels.. being the younger guy and now suddenly being the veteran.. it's.. such a weird feeling.
I will miss you [NC]...YellOw

... my god, BW without Yellow or Boxer. This is just... wrong.
Nothing left to do but wish Hong Jin Ho a bright and successful future - and remember, being the 2nd richest man in Korea is not bad even if you aim for #1

Only the old veterans, aka going on 30s.
It's natural that gaming isn't the no 1 thing you want to do when you hit a certain age. Few will continue but most will find themselves pleased with their careers.
I think the young players might switch in a couple of years.
