Hyuk

Today, Captain Hyuk advanced to the Ro16 in the MSL, beating Great in the final game of his group. But when he looked at the bracket pairings for the Ro16, he looked depressed. Yet again, he had a good chance of facing his teammate Fantasy.

Today, you had to exert all your effort to reach the Ro16. How do you feel?
My mood is actually not bad. The game against Leta was tough, but I did my best to quickly forget about it for the other two games. Fortunately, I was able to win those last 2 games.

In your game against Leta, you were in a hugely advantageous position, but you managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Was it saddening?
It wasn't like this in practice. I haven't played against Leta for so long, and I haven't felt that anxious feeling from game 1 for a while either. In my head, I was telling myself to attack quickly and end the game. In the MST, my mental condition was equally poor, but it took a turn for the better. So today, I wasn't very worried after game 1.

After game 1, you seemed very incensed. You must have been dissatisfied.
You could say I was raging, but I controlled my emotions with the next 2 games in mind. I told myself nonstop: “Losing game 1 is no big deal, you can still advance with 2 wins.”

In the final game, you ran into last season's silver medalist, Great.
Recently, my ZvZ has been bad, and I've been in a losing streak in the matchup, so that last match was critical. I prepared heavily for it and I raised my confidence, since I knew I had to fix my shortcomings to win.

Your goal for the MSL?
I don't really have a goal. If I have to say, I want to get a seed.

If Fantasy advances as first from his group, you two will meet in the Ro16.
If that happens, I will be incredibly depressed. Fantasy, you are very strong. Please don't win 2-0, lose the first game and win the next two, that way we can be happy teammates (haha).

You seem to meet Fantasy in the individual leagues very often.
It's true. I'm starting to grow suspicious – out of all the people I could possibly play, it's always Fantasy. Is this some sick twisted fate?

There are many spots, yet why do I always get matched up with him? Fantasy is born in the year of the ram and I'm born in the year of the rabbit, but it's said that for people that are born in the year of the rabbit, their fate is to suffer from wicked acts inflicted from those who are born in the year of the monkey or ram. It said that in fortune telling/my horoscope, but since I keep on getting matched up with him, it seems that it's really true (laughs).

Now Hyuk thinks even superstition is involved...... Perhaps there is a greater force working behind all this. :O

Anything else?
Right now is a break time, but I must practice. I've advanced now, though, so I'm very happy. Ssak, Fantasy, s2, and soo [T/N unsure – Chinese nicknames are used] all took time out of their breaks to help m practice, so I'm incredibly grateful.

Leta

jesus christ what is that

Thoughts on making the Ro16?
I'm very glad, especially since my individual league performance is always tragic. I haven't even gotten farther than the Ro8 before; it's really embarrassing. This time, I have such a good opportunity, so no matter what I have to get into the semifinals, and if I can win it all that would be best.

It seems both of your games were turnaround victories.
I don't really know why. But I wanted to win, so I fought constantly and never gave up. I didn't think the result would be this good (haha). I guess it boils down to my own ability.

Your two games were both hard-fought struggles.
The map in game 1 was very disadvantageous in the sense that it's easy to suffer huge losses in the early game. But in practice I was often able to turn a losing situation into a win. So I thought, if the situation isn't totally gone, I should keep fighting. I have nothing to say about game 2, except that I got very lucky.

In the winners' match, you mysteriously won.
As soon as I spawned at the 12 o'clock, I had a feeling I would win. I just waited for his troops and prepared to defend, and it played out exactly as I expected. Then I won.

In game 1, it looked like your opponent strategically forfeited.
I think my opponent was too impatient at the end, and it simply appeared to be a strategic gg. But from a progamer's standpoint, I don't feel that way. For me, in order to show more outstanding games afterward, I actually put in more effort.

What went through your head as you were hit by a zergling rush in the first game of the day?
I only thought about defending. My luck was very good. The positions were close, so losing right there would have been no surprise.

Anything else?
Thanks to the fans who cheered for me, as well as the teammates who helped me win today.

I hope fantasy loses so that there isn't yet another hyuk-fantasy match. They're my two of my favorite guys left in the MSL.

Haha I'm guessing liberties were taken so the question would be:
In your game against Leta, you were in a hugely advantageous position, but you managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Was it saddening?

This interview is a little bit hilarious, how can he go to a tournament and has no goal at all lol ? He just plays it for the sake of playing ? The Fantasy answer is funny too, and look at his facial expression, it's like "oh god another stupid interview, i have nothing to say at all lol"

minor liberties

the most literal translation would be "In your game against Leta, you were in a hugely advantageous position, but you were the victim of a come-from-behind win."

Hyuk seemed so depressed during last nights games and the interview; I think I saw him half smile once...

Glad for Leta though, he seemed pretty happy throughout the day

Now there's two good options: Either Fantasy advances first and at guarantees one SKT player knocked out or Fantasy doesn't advance at all.

I'm afraid Calm won't advance and Soulkey will beat Fantasy once though.

The Chinese to Korean translator left out a rather amusing detail from the interview...

You seem to meet Fantasy in the individual leagues very often.

i think skt should almost take it as a compliment they can have so many ppl in MSL(s) so often and come out of survivor, or just be seeded. so, by that nature it seems only plausible there might be team-kill

Is it just the camera light or does Hyuk look like a dead man walking?

Btw, that's one of the worst Leta pictures I have ever seen. Do e-sport photographers have any standard whatsoever? Or do they just shoot and get it over with?

Lol at Great's karma kicking in for making that group of death. Can't wait to see Shin Dong Won suffer the same fate and be eliminated by none other than Song Byung Goo of the TaekBangLeeSsang. Coincidence? I think not. + Show Spoiler +
A greater power made stork lose a game against mind for this purpose. If he won that game, he won't be facing Hydra. Even Free's recall research timing is a part of this conspiracy.

Grats to Leta and Hyuk!
