One of the MBCGame Hero's two-top Terran player, Jae-Ho "Super Terran" Lee (ed. note: henceforth, referred as Light) is officially moving to Woongjin Stars.
In 28th of Februrary, MBCGame Hero and Woongjin Stars announced that they have come to an agreement to move Light to Woongjin Stars. Woongjin Stars have decided to acquire Light in light of Woongjin's traditionally weak Terran line, a move that is seen to reinforce their lineup and as an attempt to help them make it to the post-season games. As a result of this, Woongjin now has much stronger Terran line made up of Really and Light.
An official from MBCGame Hero stated, "We have authorized this move as a way to encourage new progamers due to our over-reliance on our top players, as well as shake up the team's stagnating strength."
He also stated, "In fact, there has been a love call from Woongjin for quite some time, but we couldn't let anyone go yet while we weren't very sure of our team's overall strength. But now, we decided that our A-team players are strong, as well as our B-team players' growth were greater than expected. With that, we allowed the move to take place to allow the progamer to further himself, allow teams to restructure together, and to increase the popularity of Proleague."
As a result, MBCGame will use existing main players such as Sea, HyuN, Jaehoon, Tyson, and Saint, as well as a new player. Also, RuBy will be discharged from Korean Air Force this coming June, and will join MBCGame to round out the team.
In a meanwhile, Woongjin Stars official said, "It looks like there will be a lot of competition for the team's ace spot among Light, free, and ZerO." Woongjin has shown with that, that they aim to win a Proleague season instead of just post-season qualification this time.

free isn't even an a-teamer, taht should say guemchi i think
At least it's not bad news lol. Let's see if invisible terran can adapt, he was a huge loner anyways even in MBC so things shouldn't be too different. I hope this won't harm his performance.
And Ruby, free already? I thought he had joined this summer but apparently it was 1 year before I thought. Well I hope he'll be back in MBC and will do well.
wow this is crazy I've never been a really fan so this is the first good wongjin terran in.... a LONG time current mbc coach didn't seem to like light that much either, almost never got sent recently
On February 28 2011 12:39 DejaVu119 wrote: i wish teams traded more often. this kind of news is always fun. bad news for mbc unless they have some quality coming back (maybe a woongjin zerg).
They're getting ruby back which is good for MBC since he's been doing fairly well for an airforce.
Oh damn! You beat me to it! But yeah, my initial reaction was "WTF?!???!??" as well. It just feels so WRONG to see Light go to Woongjin... Light's like, practically the face of MBC and its strong Terran line. It'll feel weird to not see Light with Sea anymore. Ahh, the whole thing feels so wrong.
I guess I'll have to just say good luck to Light in his new team, and I hope he can help out Really in Woongjin's Terran line. I'll miss Light in MBC though, it's just not the same now. T____T
Really/Light/Zero/Free/Soulkey, this is so by and far the strongest damn lineup in proleague on paper, and yet I bet Woongjin will still miss playoffs due to chronic choking.
An official from MBCGame Hero stated, [...] "But now, we decided that our A-team players are strong, as well as our B-team players' growth were greater than expected.

To be fair, the deal was probably being worked out while Jaehoon and Tyson were looking quite strong.

I honestly doubt it,round 5 and 6 are going to be big for them.
woongjin should be crazy strong when we get back to normal proleague. no one can match the THEORETICAL depth of zero/free/light/really/soulkey/crazy-hydra, not even stx . They have 5-6 *depending on how you feel about crazy-hydra) legit every week proleague starters. scary.
Aside from the obvious about wojing getting a great terran, think about how good the woojing zergs are going to get with TvZ master to practice with constantly.

however, damn, woongjin fixing all their faults.
and yeah lol @really. What happened!!?!? he was looking very solid A class last season.
This is a pretty scary combination though. Light is a good choice for Stars.
They've been wanting to sell Light since the off-season. They wanted to sell him to Khan then but the deal fell through.
On the 25th, Light, Hyun, Shark and another MBC rookie all dropped hints about this on twitter so I'm not surprised but still very sad...
I might have to start rooting for Woongjin because of this.
Holyshit...Woonjin is now really, really, really damn stacked. You could argue that they are even a deeper team than SKT now, with Light, Free, Zero, Soulkey, and Really. Oh my god...
I absolutely did not see that coming, as I felt like Light was the pillar of MBC in recent times, along with Sea. It'll be interesting to see how the two teams perform now, as Woongjin just looks way too good on paper now, yet that was also the case of Hite I'd say, and I see MBC as shaky now. Also, I really wonder what is Light's opinion on all this.. Did he get any saying in the matter? He probably had a pretty comfortable position in MBC so I feel he's kinda losing a lot in the exchange.
EDIT: Conspiracy theory - It's all part of Guemchi's evil master plan.
Even though losing Light is a huge blow to MBC, I wonder how their new players will fare in Proleague. I hear that Dream.t)check has a lot of potential, so we'll see how that plays out... Gonna still be weird seeing Light possibly be sent out against Ace on March 5th though from the Woongjin bench.
An official from MBCGame Hero stated, "We have authorized this move as a way to encourage new progamers due to our over-reliance on our top players, as well as shake up the team's stagnating strength."
Noooooooooo! No more high-level zerg sniper (and all around good player and co-ace, of course) for MBC! I hope the team snaps out of whatever funk they are in currently, or March onwards will just be sad for them. Hyun, Jaehoon, and Tyson, time to step it up. Crossing my fingers for the Dream.t)check guy.
The Woongjin uniform looks so weird on Light. I guess I'll get used to it eventually.

Wish Light good luck in Stars. There must be a really good reason why he suddenly decided to go to Stars. Until now, I still can't believe Light is officially go to Stars.

Feels wrong to see Light on some other team.
Sure, they may have sold all of their 'greats' and kept 'solid', but they never will reclaim a championship ever again because of their inability to have a consistent core group of players (Sea/Light/Bisu/July... the glory days).

New player = Dream.t)check. It's said that he has a lot of potential. He better have a lot, 'cause it's gonna take a whole damn lot to replace Light.
He better be the next JD because they're gonna need a lot to stay competitive as far as I can see. This also means that a certain Yum Bo Sung is going to have to start getting more consistent and step up as the ace of the team.
At least I won't have to watch Light fail vs Perfectman anymore.
Gonna miss Light being on MBC. He had brought us some excellent games against all players. Winning a BC battle against Flash. Tearing apart Jaedong's stacked Mutas with stacked Wraiths.
Perhaps I shall be more inclined to vote for Stars in my Liquidbet now. MBC is really starting to look like the Dallas Mavericks of Proleague.

You know what, even if Dream.t)check becomes a great player, the MBC execs will probably just sell him to a wealthier team like they sold July, Bisu and Light.
Oh... It looks like Light is not happy about the move, but who would be thrilled to move to unknown territory. And I feel really sorry for his teammates; all of them are so sad to see him go. By "didn't have great TvP", you mean "had god-awful, shitty TvP," right? Anyways, as soon as I saw the full title of this thread, i literally jumped in my chair. I don't think anyone saw this coming. MBC must really be desperate for money if they're trading one of their ace players.
Dumb choice on MBC's part. I've never been much of a Light fan, but I'll root for him now that he's on Stars. Also, if we don't make playoffs with this lineup I will run headfirst into my door.
After a month of rigorous practice, Free will be joining the A-team.

MBC needs some leadership now, Jaehoon needs to step up into his recently obtained captain's role and Sea needs to start being consistent for a change.

Holly balls, this is shocking. Wow Woongjin has just gotten considerably stronger. They should be guaranteed top 3 no matter what happens.
I wonder how light feels about this. Did they just kick him to the curb or did he want to move? He is no shitty player, moving him is like taking one of the key figure heads away from MBC Game. I eagerly await further news.
Good thing he's going to start playing for Stars after their game against Oz.
Also, this is really bad news. MBC is struggling as it is, but at least with Light, they had a legitimate chance against zerg-heavy teams like Stars and Oz.
Poor Sea. He's no Flash, he can't carry a team on his own.

Ruby is Light ver.0.5.
Had Sea been able to get past the Ro8 in a starleague, he'd have been sold by now too. So sad to be an MBC fan. So many great players over the years but they always end up leaving because the MBC execs want to cash in.
HOLY SH*T. Woongjin's Terran Line coming up! What is MBC gonna do now. They lost a lot of their top B-teamers to SC2 and now they're losing one of their 1-2 punch? MBC to be the next team to fold in coming months?
EDIT: It is EFFing weird seeing Light in a Woongjin uniform.
What is WRONG with MBC? They are no doubt one of the better teams when it comes to growing their own talent... just to sell it away to other teams. I really don't get it. I feel sorry for Sea the most, he has been carrying MBC for ages now and has just been losing strong teammates, give the guy a break. I've always seen Light as one of the pillars (along with Sea) holding MBC up. Seeing Light on Stars is going to be damn weird. T_T

The ones who left for SC2 sucked at BW. Fact. They acquired some SKT B-teamers to replace them. MBC won't fold but they might not reach the play-offs.
whoa that was unexpected. I wish we would see more player for player trades, but trades like this where a team gives up arguably their best player and gets nothing in return must be pretty depressing for the fans.

I'm fairly sure that both of those were due to poor relationships with the coach/other teammates and had little to do with money
Wrong. July and Bisu were Sea's best friends at MBC. He was crushed when they left. July left because of pay disputes with MBC, Bisu left because SKT offered good money plus Bisu wanted to work with Kingdom I think.
wtf... anyone know the TRUE reason behind this move?? this is horrible for mbc.. and so unexpected!! TT oh well.... at least hite will get fucked today
Clearly not about the money. The player MBC got in return will make them forget about light. Oh, wait, they didn't get a player in return? Well, let me still ponder who came out ahead in this deal... In other sports you would call this putting a player on waivers and having him get claimed, but I guess it's a trade in E-sports.
I'm assuming I'm missing something. What does MBC get in return? Money + money saved in removing a salary? A player that isn't mentioned in articles? If you traded Bisu, you would like to think you could get some good prospects back. Just curious to why that doesn't seem to happen in "trades."

holy crap that's a pretty huge move. Neither team has been playing overly well lately as it is, this is a pretty huge setback to MBC, who was pretty well only known for their two A/S class terrans beforehand. Light's going to finally give woongjin the terran power it's always needed. Overall pleased since Woongjin was my favourite team to begin with.
It's pretty ballsy for Woongjin to make Light transfer over to their team in the middle of a season though... I wonder if Light's been given enough time to adjust to things, or if he'll still be in a disoriented state when he goes off to play for them on Saturday. When the Stars vs. ACE match rolls around, it'll be either the beginning of a big slump for Light or the beginning of a big leap for Woongjin in the rankings. I hope Light will be able to adjust by Saturday.
WOW big news. Light is a total baller, I still remember that (semi-final?) series he had with JD. This will really help Woongjin out. Feel a little bad for MBC though, they were a good team last year that was on the verge of being great, but I don't think they can be a serious contender without Light.

After a month of rigorous practice, Free will be joining the A-team.
Anyways, if Light performs as he always does and Free/Flying steps it up, Woongjin will be a feared team. On the other hand... MBC is lackluster... hopefully they'll be doing well too.
OH I just remembered something. Free once mentioned he wanted to take revenge on Light for "humiliating" him in a game.

He also mentioned this at the MSL selection event.
Urgh. Sigh.
Um, I always believed he was referring to when Best had humiliated him...
let me check... will edit this post in a sec
EDIT: yea I do think this was after that one time Best BM'd free with scouts
But Light and Sea always carried MBC during regular season! They'd both win a game, and then one of them would win the ace. How will MBC ever win a match now? D:
I dreamed for this moment for such a long time while I was regularly watching PL. My favorite terran joining my favorite team. Can't wait to see him in action.
Remember that time when MBC was roflstomping everyone with Sea, Bisu, July, Light, Pusan and Coach Park (SKT coach now)? They lose all of it (except Sea), by trading. Which is lol and sad.

They should change their name to MBSEA now because they have let go of every non-Sea high class player they ever had. First July, then Bisu and now Light. This is surely salary related, just like with the former players. I don't understand why MBC are so poor in comparison with the other teams. And I kind of feel sorry for Sea. I hope they can draft some really great younglings and rebuild fast for his sake.
Oh noes! I just realized Light's rugged looks will ruin the Woongjin Stars trademark cutesy style. + Show Spoiler +
Maybe Light's TvP will stop sucking now that he gets to practice with Free instead of Jaehoon.
Wow strong players on Woongjin... Really well rounded.
Just by readin the comments in the OP I think there is some neede stir going on, and I hope it'll turn out well for both teams. More importantly I hope Light was ok with this, I'd be scared if I were him seeing as he's been on MBC for a loong time...

What? Why can't KT pick up Light? Light would be the perfect terran to add, him + Action + Flash would equal a retardedly powerful T/Z lineup, and his T style is the perfect addition to Flash's T style...
Haha. Well, the Woongjin board is giving their coach everything he wants. Too bad it's not the material that's the problem, but it's the coach himself!

Don't be silly. Renegotiating a contract means you still have to pay him even if it's half the sum. Now they not only don't have to pay his salary/bonuses at all, they get a transfer fee in return from Woongjin. MBC has a track record of selling their best players to richer teams. If the money's right, they will sell regardless of how important the player is to the team.
-edit- I think I read that Light's not going to be in the upcoming v OZ game
That's Light, Bisu and July. Who is the fourth individual?
Btw, thezerg used to be very promising before transferring to SKT from MBC where he end up being the worst SKT Zerg in history.
Light and Sea are on the same paycheck, at least in terms of basic salary. MBC were rumored to be trying to offload either Light or Sea during the off-season.

What can you do when your players are slumping ? I mean look at Leta in CJ except for a win against PerfectMan , he hasn't won a game since forever ... CJ still owns , because they are overstacked with talent , but players like Leta and Skyhigh aren't showing their full potential . Skyhigh used to be invincible in TvT . When Iris left for Ace looked like his TvT went downhill from there .
Is MBC the vendor team or something??? All they do is sell their best players and then wonder why they can't do shit in proleague!
July Bisu Light they deport coach park to SKT1 pusan as a coach (lol at least jaehoon is benefiting from this)
pretty soon Sea is gonna get thrown onto a team like KT or SKT and then MBC is gonna have jaehoon to carry them, eventually turning into the next eStro and dying
Hyun says he just returned from the noraebang (karaoke) with his 5-yr noraebang buddy, Light. Saint and Tyson went along too. They went there to release stress. Today is the last night of Light's stay at MBC house.

God I feel SO SO SO SO SO SO BAD for laughing but its so ridiculously accurate.
I think the main reason, as previously said, is for the Money. The MBC team is sponsored by the same corporation that sponsors the MSL, and we all know that the MSL group hasn't been doing too great. When them fighting Blizzard was huge news, the MBC game specifically said they were operating with no/negative profits.
The fact that MBC has to have legal problems with Blizzard, haven't been winning Proleague/Starleagues probably contribute very largely to the reason why Light was sold off for money. They probably are losing too much money, and needed some quick cash. Selling off light is an obvious step in solving said problem.
As for Woonjin, I feel really really like that this is their do-or-die moment. It seems that this season, the CEOs are like "ok team, buy whatever and whoever you want, just win. Win the proleauge." or something like that. The rate theyve been aquiring other players is simply rediculous. Hopefully, all their aquisitions are worth something, and they don't just die off...
Meh, I think Light could have moved onto a better team personally; from a group perspective, they don't really gain much depth as I doubt the team really had much trouble with their vZ match-ups to begin with given that they have two top tier Zerg players and free's pretty good at any match-up when he isn't slumping.
Honestly, if Light wants/needs to become a much better player than he already is, he needs to move onto a team that has a solid Protoss line-up in order to fix that disastrous TvP of his: T1, KT, Khan, or STX would have really complemented Light really well, Woongjin doesn't really help Light out other than solidify his already S-Class TvZ capabilities.
Kind of sad to see MBC broken down further and further; good luck to Sea, Tyson and Jaehoon to carry the team now.

Well you said yourself that Free is solid when his condition is good. The team also has Flying and Guemchi who have their moments. All three are statistically strongest in PvT. I wouldn't rate KT above Woongjin really, and the other teams mostly just have a high profile protoss ace.
Edit: Hite might have been a good choice though. Snow used to specialize in that matchup and Movie is on a roll at the moment.

Light's problem has more to do with the lack of a proper Terran coach at MBC. Jaehoon and Tyson have good PvT, practice partners are not an issue.
The only coach who for certain can turn around that TvP of Light's is Oov. Perhaps Stars will sell Light to SKT (like they did Kwanro) when they don't win the Proleague. Unlikely but possible.

Well, there is Oz Protoss, SKT Zerg and Woongjin Terran. I think WJ is trying to do something about that.
It was likely the primary reason why they purchased Really, who contributed a less than 50% winning rate to the team.
For the record, Really hit 50% overall rate before Estro disbanded. He currently stands at 47.27%.

I'm not too worried about MBCGame (Tragic) HERO. As long as they have old-reliable Sea, I'm sure they can rally to avoid the dreaded second last place position.
wowowowow this is huge for woonjin. Hopefully this will seriously bring them back. I thought that Really would do his part, but sadly he has not. Hello. You guys should know what's going on since the articles are already released. It's regretful that I can't finish my career with the team that I have started with. Before the season began, many people analyzed MBC Hero as a weak team, and through hard work we began to change people's minds. Please don't hate me for moving out from Herodon't hate Hero because I'm leaving, and instead, at times like these, please cheer on. I'll work hard to become the Ace player of Woongjin. Thanks for all my fans who cheered for me while I was in MBC Hero, and I'll put in more effort in the future. Thank you.

I suddenly had the griping fear that the light transfer will take the same course as the kwanro transfer:
Player fills in a gaping hole in the lineup, fans get really excited, they get sent out a few times early only to be crushed because they haven't adjusted to the new team, never heard from again.
Man I hope that doesn't happen. I'm not exactly a light fan, but he has had some entertaining games in the past, and it would be a shame to see that go.

Lol that's one of my favorite interviews by them. And yeah I hope what happened with kwanro doesn't repeat with light too. Though Really sort've adjusted this season and he even got a 2 kill in that last match - albeit he was sort've slumping for a bit earlier on this season - but it could've been worse and he isn't what I'd call a disappointment but more so lackluster :S.
Well I think light helps cover up woongjin's weakness to zerg moreso since ZerO is still having issues there, SK is an enigma when it comes to ZvZ but seems to be just as unreliable as ZerO, Really's TvZ has certainly improved quite a bit, but not at the level to be a player to send confidently against JD, Free has a history of being great at PvZ but only time will tell how he performs coming out of that training camp. And G-Chizzle is G-Chizzle, 'nuff said. But with Light covering vZ and ZerO(and even Flying to an extent) covering vP, as well as anyone practically vT, Woongjin should be set to climb back up the rankings once free and light are allowed to rejoin the roster :u

Hmm... don't change your icon because of one player, no matter how awesome he is. There's still Sea and bunch of other guys with average skills but great personalities. Besides which MBC will nurture new talent, they always do. Then the execs will sell them to richer teams. But they'll be on the team for a couple years at least.
Stars coach trying to make up for his past failures?
Light actually tested for Woongjin way back in 2005 as an amateur but was rejected. Instead he caught the eye of Coach Ha who took him in. LOL. Then in 2006, Light beat Free in an Ace match, knocking Stars out of the play-offs.
There's more in the articles, as well as an interview with Light, can someone help translate?
I stop watching BW for a few days and missed this slightly shocking news... but it kind of makes sense because MBC is sponsored by the network, so they probably don't care about prize money as much as other teams. The network probably figured they'd save more money with one less top player on the payroll.

Sure, just like when he was absolutely sure that Nony didn't play courage in Seoul, and even when Tasteless and Nony himself told him that he did, he kept insisting he was right
Koreans are thinking the rumor doesn't seem right, because Light is currently getting paid a good salary -- there's no real incentive for him to leave Stars for SC2.
Juan probably thought it was true, though, and was just passing along information which ended up being false with good intention. I doubt he was trolling, although if he was, I wouldn't be too surprised, either.
I'll translate Light's twitter post for clarification. "지금 저와 관련된 재미난 루머들이 돌고 있는데요, 루머는 루머일뿐^^ 현실과 혼동하지 마시길 ㅋㅋ" There are some funny rumors going around about me, but rumors are rumors ^^. Don't confuse it with reality keke
And I doubt Light would change to SC2, he got a pretty good salary, the 2nd best TvZ in the scene and with his TvP starting to get better I can seem him becoming a serious contender in individual leagues soon. Not to mention that he did phenomenal in the Play-Offs and just became captain of the Stars.
not a very strong denial though... he coulda just said im not playing sc2 and im not switching instead he's making it some vague statement -_- cant imagine he'd switch though.. he's too good at sc1

HIGHLY doubt he'd switch. He's probably getting a salary of around 100,000 + incentives/possible prize money.
And his denial is pretty much saying it's not true, and that the rumor is wrong.
이재균 (2011-09-10 14:10:50) 연봉계약 마무리 시점에 스2 전향이라뇨 크크크 .. 어디서 나온 루머인가요? 전혀 근거 없는 소리입니다.
Lee Jae Gyun (2011-09-10 14:10:50) moving to sc2 in the time of finishing the salary negotiation? lol where the rumor came from? that rumor is totally groundless.
When I saw this in the sidebar and read the title, I was like "HOLY SHIT. Light is going to Stars?!?!?'...until I realized he's been there a while now.
It's just Coach Lee talking about Light moving to SC2 would be unrealistic and other stuff about how BW is apparently nearing the end (FALSE. HE'S WRONG) and that there will be some more people switching this year due to the disbanding of teams (He talked a bit about Sea and how he would be probable than Light).
And it was posted before Light denied the rumors on his twitter, so basically, this rumor was proven false.
it's weird (he's) been getting good recognition in SC1, so it's rather risky for him to move to SC2... if it was Sea moving to SC2 because his team got disbanded, then it's more believable, but if it's Light, it's very doubtful. .. .. .. looks like Idra started this rumor on his private streams i don't know if it's true idra doesn't seem like the type who'll start spreading rumors
it is interesting to note what else he says here though:
i believe lots of players will leave (t/n: retire? move to sc2? not specified) at the end of this year bw is near it's end (t/n: really?), but sc2 has at least 6 years to go (2 expansions), so it's not bad to make the switch early personally, i'm hoping jaedong switches to sc2
I love how articulate coaches can be on their twitters they are very passionate about the business aspect of BW, but hey, let's remember it's their lives.
Despite not being that big of a player in terms of mainstream popularity, I think Light would be amongst the last roster of BW players to leave for Starcraft II.
Behind Flash and Fantasy (the latter being debatable), he's basically one of the best Terran players on the scene currently.
Idra was streaming sc2 and was matched up against a terran nicknamed "nonge" and he said "You're bad ^_^" while he held of a bunkerrush in a very jokingly manner way.
My question, is light playing sc2 under the nickname "nonge" for fun? or is this "nonge" in sc2 someone else?

HIGHLY doubt he'd switch. He's probably getting a salary of around 100,000 + incentives/possible prize money.
And his denial is pretty much saying it's not true, and that the rumor is wrong.
So the rumor is false.
as i said i also think it's highly unlikely, but he just says there are rumors and the rumors are not true... he doesnt specify what those rumors are.... so in the end he doesn't really say anything... Anyway as it appears from the multiple other sources here, it seems unlikely... but you never know sure hope (and think) he'll stay at sc1, since sc2 is just not as good a spectator sport (imo) ^^
