Yes, you read that correctly. And I’m not joking around either. STX has always had big aspirations, and this time, they should be no lower than winning the entire league. Remember the STX of the previous season, 2009-2010? They are back with a vengeance, and they are about to shatter the delusions of those who are simply unable to compete. Already I hear the sounds of those mocking the choking tendency of STX, when it actually comes down to it. It is true, STX does not have any major titles, or many individual league wins. But it always had the potential to, and now we challenge fate once more, for the throne is rightfully ours.
STX has something that noone else does - it is a team like no other, and this is obviously because they have a lineup like no other. When they win, they win together, when they lose, they do so together, as a team. That’s the STX moto, as recently stated by Shuttle. And in a bo7, these are not empty words. The number of decent players is more important than having a few good players. STX has a team full of both good and decent players, and this is why they are more deserving to win the title.
Kal is probably the best Protoss in the league at the moment. The pretenders have been struck down, and now he could easily be the one to finally usher in this new golden era of Protoss. He gave both Jaedong and Flash a great fight, and shows potential to beat them time and again. For Proleague, such a player is invaluable, and while other jealous teams might accuse him of inconsistency, he doesn’t have as glaring errors in PvZ as Best or a dreadful PvT such as Bisu. And when you train with a PvP expert like Shuttle, you can beat any Protoss. Smugtoss has a reason to be satisfied with himself, and the way things are going, Flash and Jaedong will fall before him eventually.
Shuttle is more matchup orientated, but in 2010, a PvP sniper is invaluable. Furthermore - it’s not like he’s bad at the other matchups! You’ll see a lot more of Shuttle this season, and I wouldn’t be surprised in the slightest if he advanced in the individual leagues as well. May god have mercy on Shuttle’s opponents, because Shuttle surely won’t.
Trap is the ultimate proof of the willingness of STX to invest into the future. Sure, he hasn’t been too succesful, but look at his only game in this season and tell me the kid doesn’t have promise. To make things even better, his opponent was M18M, a very good PvP-er out of the Samsung stock, and he was on the backfoot for a lot of the game. STX’s Protoss lineup looks great.
STX’s Terran line has had a lot of difficulty over the years, but they form a strong backbone now. With Classic on the team and players like FrOzean and Bogus to pad out the lineup, STX has a lot of Terran playstyles at it’s disposal. It’s true, none of them are spectacular, but STX is no longer defenseless against Terrans. The last time SKT underestimated STX, Bogus gave Fantasy a well-deserved beating, and Classic is at least solid in every matchup, well showcased by his performance in the individual leagues. FrOzean is arguably the most shaky of the bunch, but he has shown vast improvement compared to the previous season, and with his qualification into the individual leagues, the future looks even more hopeful. Having 3 so-so Terrans is a lot better than what Stars or SKT have now, and if one should slump, the others (or Last, who can be played to even further deepen the lineup) will pick up so that the weak player has time to recover. If Fantasy, Flash or Really( who already does slump) play badly for a few weeks, their teams strategic arsenal is drastically reduced. These teams have dug their own grave, and STX SouL will waste little time mourning.
Brain Zerg is about to come back, and his demolishings of Tyson and the Wildcard victory in the OSL are but testaments to his re-ascendance. This is not something new! If we look at the history of STX July was basically considered history before joining STX, and he won an OSL after that. Calm will follow in his footsteps, and lead STX to victory, possibly snatching an individual league title on the way. He still excells at smart, strategic play, and if he regains his confidence, there will be no stopping him.
What Calm might be considered to lack, hero has plenty. The 500 APM monster-Zerg is well-known for his aggressive play, and he’s often considered to be the mantle-bearer of the great July himself. By.hero is not afraid of anyone, and he's definitely someone everyone but the S-class looks out for in the Proleague. This Zerg duo compliments itself perfectly, and STX has even more aces up their sleeve.
NeverGG has informed TL that Modesty makes one hell of a hydralisk impression.
Modesty needs to redeem himself, but he still has virtues. His ZvZ ELO is monstrously high for a reason - only Jaedong can be expected to micro mutas and zerglings like Modesty has done in the past! The guy sniped Jaedong every once in a while, for Christs sake, and not many other Zergs can boast that feat. If his slump ends, (hopefully his other matchups will improve as well), Stars and JaedongOZ will have lots of trouble.
Last, but not least, we have hyvaa and the less known yCh[z-zOne] (Even his name sounds badass!) Should any of the above Zergs slump, STX has still 2 to choose from, or add an extra layer of variety to STX’s pool of strategy. While hyvaa is inconsistent and yCh is as wet behind the ears as they come, they have performed better in the individual leagues than Best , and underestimating either of them in Proleague might be any teams fatal mistake. Remember Flash vs. hyvaa on Match Point? Hyvaa has the brains to pull off something incredible every once in a while, and they are not bad compared to other races choices as 6-th players. Knowing the culture of STX, yCh will have a chance to prove himself as well, and woe to his opponents when he does.
Why settle for the merely effeminate when you can have the real deal?
In summary:
Even without any strong Ace player, STX would be a strong contender in this years Proleague, and now that Calm and Kal are finally returning back to form, there is no way any team is stopping us.
This is the team that gives new players and old players chances time and again, instead of relying on the old guard no matter what. This is the team with the biggest variety, yet a strong sense of unity. This is the team that will either live or die together. These are the true qualities of champions. STX will finally triumph in 2011.
Proleague Gold, here we come.

I like to think that Kal and this team are alike in one way: they always show promise, and then they just fall short of an achievement. And how can STX win proleague when SKT will? Also, SKT masters cup. Edit: Misguided subtle Bisu bashing? That's not very nice. And you're really going to regret it tomorrow.

But I do think STX is doing better this year despite their record, Kal is currently 4-1 and looks to be in very good form, it's just clam that still makes me face palm at times.

SKT is filled with A+ players, not S class either so i dunno what you're on lol
if Kal "lacks S class skill" then there is no way in hell Fantasy or Bisu is S class lol

when was the last time kal took a game from jaedong or flash? no really just wondering (which was not part of a bo3 or 5 ) since i'm pretty sure he cant win those vs s class

In WCG korea. He also destroyed Effort, in order to prove his badassitude.
effort was an s class not trying to take anything from kal but ,, it does seem weird he quit shortly after guess he felt he finished his goal and his heart wasnt fully commited to sc,,,

As stated earlier, Effort was already out of it by then. But his series vs Flash is exactly what I'm talking about: shows potential but in the end falls short of accomplishing anything.
Was gonna say something mean about losing to JaedongOZ but mmm I got distracted by tossgirl ><
On a serious note STX can deliver a beating when they want to. Though I'm a rabid JD fanboy I have a lot of respect for the STX zergs Can always appreciate a good Calm game~

Yo, I know I said you were dead to me after your naysayer predictions, but I forgave you man. You didn't need to give me this. ;p
I'm totally on board with your overall prediction about taking it home for the first time this season. Our Terran line is pretty much unprecedented. Bogus has been showing as much talent as he's got nose. Plus we got the up and coming Classic.
Zerg and Protoss have always been deep for us. We've got a pair of aces and about a half dozen kings. If that's not a winning hand you're playing some conventional game.

I already made the decision to make something like this my 1000th post when I hadn't even read your post. It did give me extra motivation, I must admit.

Can't disagree with this. Hoping we can give SKT a good fight.
Well, uh... Good luck with that. STX was third last season? So on results and player quality alone, they're a real contender. On winning games when it matters and on line up selection they'll have to step it up though.
If they couldn't win by bribing everyone with chicken, you expect them to win without it?
I may not be a genius... but the playoffs against SKT were a BO7 and SKT won both.
Good luck STX. May 4th place be kind to thee.
And whoever said Bisu and Fantasy are not S-Class... Are u joking? You talk about Kal giving Flash good games... I think the majority of people here would say the MSL semi-finals 5 game set between Flash and Fantasy was the best 5 game set of the year.
STX may be beaten time and time again but we'll NEVER fall! StarCraft of Unbelievable Legend!!!!
Edit: In a serious note, STX got to 3rd place even though July retired and Hwasin, who I believe was the team captain, was involved in the match fixing scandal.

STX's R5 performance was freaking terrible =/. They decided to have a very strong start and ended up slumping super hard right before playoffs. I'm hoping this year the same thing doesn't happen.
It's called starcraft of unbelievable legend because no one will believe that they are legend(because people have a little more sense than that). Props for making one though. I hope all the other teams do one, even if they are just lies.

Oh boi. STX talking about fashion sense. That's laughable. But u can choose ur battles. I choose to say skt is undefeated. I choose to say Fantasy was responsible for beating Clam in the last msl. The league terrorist, Bruce Lee Toss, and the Macro Boss are gonna FBB you all the way home little piggies.
I'm less inclined to believe this because of R5 of last season. Maybe Classic will help cuteangel and bogus with more practice or something. Also like you've said your LBing has been off so I'm treating your predictions with a grain of salt for now :3. Estonia hwaiting

Upsets happen all the time this season. Seriously, how many have YOU gotten right? Thanks for the Estonia fighting, though I don't know where that came from.
Interesting read but I don't agree about SKT Terran line being bad cuz Canata and Ssak (well judging from his current rookie form) are so-so players as well and also Bisu's weakest matchup has same stats like Kal's strongest.

Judging from win-percentages in matchups, Really's only better than Frozean. And last time Frozean played Bisu, the hairtoss was manhandled himself. Edited for clarity.

First of all, that was a slumping Bisu. Bisu is almost out of his slump now. Ans what do you mean judging from win-percentages in matchups, he's only better than Frozean? Mind telling me who has a better record than Bisu?

Bisu does have a good record, but I sincerely believe his fans vastly overhype him. Give him some serious PvT opponents and we'll see about his "rise from the ashes". The above segment was about Really.

Like they did in the 2v2 allstar game that was sooo hilarious~
There was one game back when hero first came on the scene where it actually said he had 500 apm. I want to say it was a game vs fantasy where he won just by Muta microing fantasy to death, but I could be wrong.
I think his game against flash is more telling. He lost his cool against JD, and that's why he lost the hatch. Sure it is a noob mistake, but he does really well in most ZvZ-s, which has specifically been stated. Doing badly against JD isn't exactly something I'd dwell on.

That stems from all of his OSL games when he upset Bisu and made it to the Ro4, he consistently had peak APM of high 400s to low 500s.

I don't think his APM was actually 500 in the Bisu games though. I mean I could be wrong but I don't remember that being when he got the 500 apm thing. Maybe one of his games vs. Hwasin in that OSL?

They show APM throughout every game in the OSL and Hero made it to the Ro4. He definitely showed his incredibly high APM stats in that tournament, and that was the first time anyone had ever noticed him.

he really had 500 apm once vs Fantasy :O thats quite rare and impressive. but it was a 9 minute match 2 hatch muta that bursts apm like hell so when people saying an average of 500 they are exaggerating as usual. low 400ish seems to be real average. thats still pretty damn fast! but he's not alone with it. some other zergs like great or sacsri are close to that i think. also some terrans too

I'm personally hoping for a regame in the vein of this:
Heh, I just don't get us STX fans, we get disappointed time and time again but nothing can stop our biased view towards our team.
GO STX!
BTW, if Modesty is our ZvZ specialist and Shuttle our PvP we ought to snatch Skyhigh from Entus so we'll be the kings of the mirror matches. Or if Kal improves just a little bit, we can have our own S-Class* player!
*S-Class nowadays mean only Jaedong and Flash, no one else. Maybe Fantasy if he ever improves his TvT.
EDIT: If you remove Flash and Skyhigh from Fantasy's TvT records, it gets quite impressive. But to be a S-Class you ought to beat other S-Class players.

Fantasy's TvT is really good, he gave Flash a good run for his money in the previous OSL semi finals.

Don't count us out just yet. You got lucky with the Lineup. We'll be happy to crush you next time.
Really? Lucky? When I look at the Matchups they are about the "non-stars" vs other "non-stars" You expect Bisu, Fantasy, Best, and Kal and Calm to have confidence in whoever they play.
Lets look at the games.
Shuttle vs Sun. Your PvP sniper versus our newcomer who wants to be a PvP sniper. Shuttle should have won and choked on a chicken bone! (Yes, I like to use old puns) If this game played 10 times, Shuttle probably goes 7-3.
Kwanro vs Kal: Your best player against our 4th best player who went Macro opening into a fail Muta harass into 5 hatch hydra all-in. Great storms and Corsair play for Kal. Would have loved to see Kal vs anyone from the Big 3. Those would have been great games.
I'd say the first game was STX favor and your team lost. Could have easily been 2-0 STX. But since it's not... we move on
BeSt vs Bogus... Yeah, SKT1 favor. Best got his best M/U. I actually call this favorable. If it's BeSt vs Calm/Modesty we have an actual game.
sOO vs Hero: Both players 50/50 types in ZvZ but Hero has played more intense games. I'd give him a slight advantage. I'd say Hero wins this 6 out of 10 times.
So after 4 games is 2v2 and SKT still has Fantasy and Bisu and there is no way you think Fantasy is not playing on Grand Line.
Bisu vs Calm: Advantage Bisu just b/c he's better. Hell, Fantasy would have beaten Calm too. Calm is dreadful right now against Terran (7 straight losses I think?) Calm did a good timing attack to do damage. But Bisu's army cut his army from regrouping with his new army he was about to send and it won Bisu the game. Just a S class move against an A+ type player.
Fantasy vs Last: I was expecting Classic or Modesty on GrandLine tbh. With that said, Last did have a good opening. However, Fantasy showed us why he's the Terrorist. He must have shot down 8 dropships and his vuluture harass was in top form.
So in terms of "matchups" I'd say STX had 2 favorables and 1 favorable for SKT.

3 favourable, actually. I have no idea why last was played, anyone on SKT is advantaged against him.. The "lucky" part comes from the necessary fanboyism this thread inspires. Actually, all your aces got to play players they wanted to play against (Best T, Bisu P, and Fantasy T) and I bet Kal wanted to play one of the big 3, usually seen on EOTS. Calm is still coming back, and his peek hasn't been reached. Other than Bisu and Fantasy, he could easily demolish SKT, but it was not to be. You played well, but our coach kind of screwed up. I still have faith in STX, and this is a mere setback. Enjoy your victory - it was deserved! We'll be waiting for the next opportunity, and then we have another shot at dethroning you.
Don't take the ramblings of prophetic victory and fate conspiring against us too seriously, it ought to be motivational and comforting to us STX fans instead of devalueing your victory. After all, that's exactly what hype threads and fanboy prediction segments are for! I think I did a great job of hyping it up, and reactions seem to indicate I did a good job. Thanks for the feedback.
I realy dont know what's with Calm right now... He proved to be smart player capable of beating everyone, and yet he seems not know a shit about good play
Winners league will change everything. There are the expected things like Oz and KT actually winning, but every WL so far has had its surprises and awesome surprise stars. I'm looking forward to that.
I think that STX will probably use Kal more aggressively instead of keeping him as an ace in the hole. We're also a team that I think shows potential for the surprise stars. Bogus has a lot of potential right now. I also think that Modesty could be an extreme baller if he can just flip that switch. Sometimes he's a failmonster, but every now and then you get these glimpses of insane play. I really hope he turns it on sometimes this season.
